Yeap... Almost 3 years edi and my Maxtor 40 GB is still serving me well... It's just that the maxtor hdd gets hot pretty quickly as for 40GB that time, it was quick a thin hdd... Anyways, I think sometimes it depends on luck, I bought a WD1600 last year to use it as an ext hdd, I am not sure whether it's my hdd's problem or the ext casing power supply, the hdd now once in a while will emit some "tick tick" sound... Got another WD2500 and using it as another ext hdd... It's working fine until today... though I must admit I just got this hdd for like,4 month...

Seriously, I'm starting to have doubts in toshiba notebook hdds. My friend's hdd died few weeks ago, then it's another friend's hdd and mine died few days ago. All of us are using toshiba hdds Got myself a samsung 60 GB due to the limited choice, hopefully it'll work out fine.

QUOTE(super macgyver @ Feb 23 2006, 02:05 PM) mine also suffer 8kb, u better start low level format it asap. toshiba nb hdd since last yr cant count on, better off go for hitachi only. Haih. The hdd just died without any notice. It was working in the afternoon and when I turned on my lappy in the evening, there's some weird noise coming out from the hdd (something like the hdd can't run and some mechanical sound like something getting stuck). Replaced it with an overpriced Samsung (damn the brits). sigh

QUOTE(Hattori @ Feb 25 2006, 09:34 AM) Toshiba's nothebook HDD is not reliable. I have serviced 4 laptops in my office, all CLEVO notebooks from Taiwan but all using Toshiba HDDs. All of them are between 3 - 5 years old. 1 HDD totally cannot detect. 1 HDD have plenty of bad sectors. 1 HDD have no bad sectors, but HDD controller failure while read/write causing slow loading and response, almost like HDD frozen. The worst thing is Toshiba do not have any diagnostic utillity for their HDDs! After seeing 3 hdd (including mine) died in almost the same time frame, I couldn't agree more. Hopefully this samsung will last longer

Actually I wanted to try out Seagate and such, it's just that, the PC World here is not selling any of those. All they are selling are Samsung However, I do find that the Samsung fluid bearing technology is rather interesting as my laptop is all quiet now.
