Quantum is really so good. my two Quantum Fireball Plus 20 GB still running without any bad sector. THey have operated for six years  biggrin.gif

another Quantum 2 GB (old harddisk nowadays) also still okay, but it has too small cache, less than 1 MB cache.

I really missed the Quantum which had drew away from consumer harddisk. They now only focused on the enterprise solution such as SCSI harddisk.

anyone can tell me which harddisk can stand longer than 5 years? I hope that all my harddisk including new 80 GB WD PATA will not give any problem within several years

just want to share this link with u all smile.gif ---> http://hddguru.com/

maybe u should looking for scsi perhaps. sweat.gif

Just to let everyone know (in case they didn't read today's Intech):

Those with WD drives bought from March 2001 - 15 Feb 2006 can claim for free backup software from WD. Might be useful to some.  smile.gif
I just applied for mine. They'll send a link via e-mail.

http://www.wdc.com/settlement.

Valid WD HDD serial number required.

Hey guys, just thought I'd share this with all of you.

Bought a new Seagate 250GB hard drive from Low Yat last week. Installed it the next day and it just wouldn't work. I think it was just my luck that I got the 1 faulty drive in the whole shipment. Anyway, went to their website, put in an RMA and sent my hard drive to the centre in Menara Summit. Received a receipt confirmation email 2 days later (sent it on a Friday) and still didn't get a replacement after another 2 days. I sent in a complaint to Seagate Malaysia and they forwarded it to the regional manager. That was yesterday. Today, the regional manager emailed me to say that the drive I bought was currently out of stock and it would take another 2 weeks to get new stock. So, he offered me a 400GB hard drive in exchange!! Now happily waiting for new 400 GB hard drive to arrive.  biggrin.gif  Not bad... pay for 250GB get 400Gb and their customer service is excellent, normally only takes 4-5 days and if longer or no stock, they give you a better one. I'm now a strong supporter of Seagate. Seagate for life!!

400gb? shocking.gif wait i buy a 80gb & try to rma for it too.

Yes, The new contenders after Hitachi slowed down all their HD business:(

The new contender is from Seagate 7200.10 and they are FAST!!!!
with 16MB cache they are making Raptors run as well.

On the other hand Seagate's reliability on IDE drives have always not been very encouraging. So that is the place for a * pause* here.

An how did WD react? they push out WD5000YS, their RE2 series. LABELLED as ENTERPRISE drives these drives boost a MTBF of 1.2 million hours (in theory) and boost the same 5 years warranty like Seagate.

Price and Peformance Seagate have it covered for now.

Reliability.. the WD RE2 is still on top.
*
wd re2 now selling how much for 160gb now?

Hurhur, I am in the verge of getting either a 160 gig IDE HD or a 200GB.
If its you guys, which do you prefer?

I know its extra 10-20 bucks but I'm just afraid that well you know the bigger the space capacity the more its prone to BAD SECTOR.

Right now I'm thinking of WD or Seagate..
*
i also thinking of getting seagte sata but after read above post, i need to think again. sweat.gif

so now i get it, companies like dell, hp use OEM products...and usually its quite noisy, but so far no problem, working fine only the noise can be irritatating sometimes..but it cant be called as rejected hardware right?? haha  laugh.gif

anyway, dell uses philips dvd-rw, another oem product which cant be bought in the market...  whistling.gif

hey guys... I wanna ask about samsung's 400GB hdd sold at pczone. from the pricelist, its RM410 for the SATA. Compared to other 400GB hdd, Seagate for example, its selling for RM800 I think. The price difference is quite huge so I was wondering about the quality of the samsung's 400GB hdd.
