corretc me if i wrong still blur in speed thingie

is there any hard disk benchmark thread around here ?? i tried search but couldnt find

errr if i use my hdd as external storage? can proper shut down ka?

i have 5 maxtor hdd

1st. 20GB use in P3 : spoil after 2 years
2nd. 40GB to replace the spoil 1 : spoil after 3 years
3rd 160 GB use in P3 too , lol : running fine till now( maybe will spoil next year cause i m a heavy user.

4th. 160GB sata , AMD 64 3000 : change 2 times for this cause after 7 month it spoil, so i take back to change (free), but kinda waste my time.

5th 200GB sata AMD 64 3200: still fine for 1.2 year

so conclusion for maxtor is, the HDD will spoil after 4 to 5 years!

IBM still produce the Deskstar today?

wow, now only i know hitachi is so famous....
few months back my 320GB seagate got burnt, but its 1 of the IC burnt only.....
so i replace the IC myself adn it works fine for 2months already till now...hopefully still can last longer

last pc fair my friend bought a 320GB western digital, it says life-time warranty and 1 year Recuva free files recovery

bro how come wd and seagate become 300++

even normal shop js only 270+ at most~~~

i js get a unit from bulk only 240+

my Seagate is so hot...
even my ano ther Hitachi isn't too hot...

wonder why.. 

hdd cooler? have to modify the cooler then only can put is it?

i think this nowaday WD hdd is ok...
i stop using WD already and use Hitachi...
so far no problem, and it seem very solid... 

actually the 5 years warranty from seagate not much different from others tat provide 3 years....
for seagate, the first 3 years u could send back to the place where u bought to get warranty but the rest of the 2 years u hav to send back to seagate urself or through ur seller wif some charges....

well this is all depend on luck & the way people stress the harddisk. i have used seagate before & less than half year already spoil. RMA another 1 also less than 1 month spoil already. after that i sold my seagate hdd & bought ibm hdd & till today still survive even during that time ibm was famous of their deathstar range hdd before ibm hdd division taken over by hitachi.

what about samsung 500gb? retail cost rm400. its cheap comparing to other brands, in 500gb range. any comments regarding samsung?

and very hot as well...
maybe Hitachi is more reliable... 

but, if got problem, where to RMA? anyone know the location>?

I reckon External HDD can support more than 1TB.

If it won't, then there won't be Western Digital's Book and Maxtor's Lacie something which comes in 500gb, 750gb and recently 1TB.

However, I do wonder why companies are still manufacturing Parallel ATA hard disk since they are so keen in phasing out those. These days only external hdd uses PATA, all internal HDD are SATA or would be SATA2 by now.

I am going to get a 500gb Western Digital HDD or Seagate. Don't really understand why Seagate is way more expensive than Western Digital here. While in Aussie it is price exactly the same for both WD and Seagate.

personally i've only had good experience with Samsung Spinpoints and Seagate Barracudas...

and only BAD experience with WD anythings.
