Tell me about it... I got a check engine light again.... based on the scan code.." Cam position sensor A, no pulse"

I can think of only two things..
1) Wiring issue... coz' if reset it goes away for a while
2) Something really wrong with the intake cam position sensor

thumbup.gif rare K-swapped FD2 that still maintain auto tranny

Just one question... does the car drive properly at low RPMs (below 2.5K rpm)?
in D mode, not paddle shift.

nope... K-series... K20Z2 I think (non type-R) convert to K20A (type-R)... gearbox on same side.

huh ? I have many friends using 16"... I'm also using 16".

Car looks better with 17" but it's heavier, replacing tires cost more $$$ and lower profile tires means less comfort.

16" will only look good if u lower it properly...but will be heavy n lose pickup as well as increased fuel consumption

*
yup.. the larger u go the heavier it is normally, unless u using those super expensive ultra light stuff.

When i got my car 2nd hand it was 17"... quickly switch to 16" (same as factory spec)... better pickup, steering feels lighter and improved FC. But I won't go smaller... cannot stand the look laugh.gif

iinm it is the R18 which has the gearbox on the wrong side if change to K20, correct ah sifu?
thumbup.gif
*
K20 I'm sure... The R18 in the 1.8L FD1 should be the same, at least from photos I've seen, cannot recall since most of my friends who own FD Civic are using FD2 with the 2.0L engine. Didn't spend much time studying the 1.8L since not much potential.

Basically if you facing and looking at the engine bay with the hood open.
R18 and K20 the gearbox on the right hand side. (Integra DC5, FD1, FD2, FD2R, FN2, ES 2.0, ET)
For B series the gearbox is on the left hand side. ( the older Civics)

QUOTE(DraCoDelTies @ Jul 16 2013, 02:04 PM)
Bro, which 1 u always stick with? Good honda sifu ah? Can PM me the location & contact person?
*
Which one u want... ?
Puchong, Kinrara - cheap, whatever also can do.... but job quality see ur luck... mainly cheap
Sifu in cutting cost for customer benefit (at least for my and my friends cases )

Sunway, Jln horsepower - Expensive, long waiting list, Good quality job
Sifu in racing cars... engine builder of high HP cars for daily and track use

USJ area - half cut supplier and engine transplant
didn't deal with them much, but a good petrol head friend uses them

I normally go to the Sunway one because nearest my place and I want good quality work.
Some smaller work I'll go to Puchong since cheaper and faster if urgent need to do but Sunway guy keep delaying because richer customers chasing for their high end cars to be ready.

One more noobie question notworthy.gif

I've driven the previous generation VTEC CVT City, and its power and fuel economy more than satisfy me, probably one of the best stock car below RM100K that I've driven.

Would FD1 (1.8) satisfy me then?
*
thumbup.gif loved the FC on that VTEC CVT City.... gearbox great for going up Genting, rev never come down... unfortunately performance wise not really great yawn.gif

After that decided just direct upgrade to 2.0L DOHC Civic, dun bother with 1.8L... flex.gif

Then decided what the heck... VTEC in the standard 2.0L is not really old skool VTEC, but economy VTEC... kena con by Honda.. shakehead.gif .... So decided swap in K20 Type-R brows.gif

But with $$$ (cost of purchase, FC, maintenance etc esp that I'm buying a used unit) an issue, dare not think about 2.0L sad.gif
*
OK, if it fits your need... icon_rolleyes.gif

dun regret later... had a friend who purchased 1.8L Civic brand new several years ago... later he say he should have gotten the 2.0L because performance wise just not quite there. Later he sold the car when he went overseas for a few years.

Come back now driving iDSI City... family man already... tongue.gif

(B-series owner... u know K-series is better right... tongue.gif )

R18... dunno, maybe got some available somewhere in the world...

I'm thinking about the same thing as well, but what's the best mod for the FD2's K20Z3?
I was thinking maybe Frankenstein in the K20A head lol

Because swapping the whole K20A (as in the whole FD2R half cut) would means converting into Manual already right. That don't sounds too good honestly.
*
If you want the full potential of the K20A then it needs to be Manual.

If you want just extra power then plan a full engine conversion. You can mate a K20A with an automatic transmission. Proven results.

Of course just converting your head to type R you will also get more power. Low end power will be less, and you cannot really take advantage of the VTEC high cam since you're rev limited by the crankshaft design in the non R K20Z3 among other things.

But can the stock AT gearbox really take the power of K20A?
*
Yes.. but we limit the rev.. Don't expect to everyday rev to 8500 rpm and AT gearbox survive.

You get much more power than stock engine near to type-R level.

Convert to K24 then even real type-R will be afraid.

Hehe interesting, maybe 2-3 years later when I got myself a another car, I'll turn my FD2 into a project car.

Which variant of K24 though?
*
doesn't quite matter, but normally K24A1, K24A2 or K24A3.

We want the block for the 2.4L displacement... then put in Type-R cylinder head.
Other internal parts will need to be swapped out depending on what is your intended use for the car.. brows.gif

pentagon was a real typeR but they bastardize it with K24 stuff.
mebbe i am a purist the FD2R doesn't need any mods, just better rubber  laugh.gif
*
Type-R with K24 there are quite a few.... but of course dun want tell people la...

FD2R minimum needs Hondata Flashpro... remove the 180 km/h speed limiter, tune an economy map to use with RON95, etc, etc... biggrin.gif

Maybe change more aggressive TODA cams also...

Good day to all civic owner, i've just booked one unit of 1.8s last sat after my hilux got stolen and pending for bank loan approval. actually i was told that honda is giving free service for 6 times till 100k km, but my SA said is only for labour free, so if i were to pay for parts will be very expensive? Thanks
*
If you go to the SC there you can find the service schedule and listed price... every model different, so it's best you check there.

What do you consider expensive?.. I've friends who consider RM5K cheap and I've friends who consider RM200 expensive.

Parts are just engine oil, oil filter and air filter... new car nothing else to change.
