hes not talking about overheating...hes talking more about constantly high revving the engine...as in owners (especially b series kakis) like to rev the engine alot... so of course, in that scenario cooling is important

anyway... typical and most common failures for hondas during the EK generation n below would be the distributor and IACV..both easily replaceable for cheap.

no real need to worry... if u test drive n its all good, then its all good. distributor and iacv failures will usually happen without warning n really is based on luck

everything else, the typical wear n tear...check for accident etc... other than that, there really isnt much issue with buying them. hondas of that generation is pretty solid other than the distributor and iacv

4L isn't it...i run my engine for 10mins...switch off and check lo...weird shakehead.gif
*
doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

when u run the engine, all the oil goes all over the engine....of course la the oil sump level will be low

best to check is early morning....when all the oil has had time to go back down into the oil sump after a nice night of sleep

I just went to see a few units of EJ, which are EJ6 & EJ8. Those are auto, with VTEC. Anyway, I have no clue whether it is D16 or B16 engine. Those I saw are black top VTEC.

My question is, how to differentiate between D16 and B16? Is there any available Civic B16 with VTEC and auto?

Another question, D16 is a SOHC engine I believe. So is it still important to have a VTEC? Will the VTEC make a lot of differences in the SOHC engine? If not much, then no matter VTEC or non-VTEC also not much difference in performance.

Please advice ya! Thanks.
*
all B series engines are twin cam engines aka DOHC

all D series are SOHC.

yes theres a difference between B16A Manual (170hp) and Auto (155hp)...diff cams...diff compression.. diff power

and seeing how ur looking into autos...i assume ur gonna use it as a daily driver and not into performance modifications...

if thats the case....i strongly suggest getting a D16.. the peak torque of the D series comes in much earlier at around 5-5.5k rpm as opposed to the B16A at 7.6k iirc... which is much better for daily driveability.

the B16A is also known as a torqueless wonder.

today i go check wheel alignment on my 93 civic,
but they just check the front wheel alignment for me
so i asked the staff there and he responded that my car is not required to align the rear, just some cars are required to align the 4 wheels.
wonder is that true and why?
*
yes its true... because some cars just arent able to adjust rear settings.. theyre pretty much fixed.. unless of course u get aftermarket camber kits

*
if u can, try n find out the gearbox code (usually stamped or a sticker on the gearbox itself... around the engine number area) and google for the info...

Thx i'll try .. problem is with the gearbox ..im not sure if its already kong/broken down or i use wrong fluid..when i put R(everse) or D(rive) the whole car is shaking and while i step on the brake it will gradually Stop the engine.. anyone encounter this?
*
the shaking thing could be engine mounting... but the engine stop is something else....strongly suggest bringing it to a workshop to check

hatches all have torsion beams because of its compact size and relative performance, sad.
*
nope... EP3 no torsion beam....EK9 no have....my EG hatch oso no torsion beam...my ex-EF hatch oso no torsion beam...

actually the FN2 is the only VTEC-equipped Civic i can think of that has a torsion beam... not sure if theres any others... but the point is... not all hatches have torsion beams.

i think it was because those cars were designed in another era.
if i remember correctly torsion beams back then weren't as good as the ones we have now so they didn't use it for their high-end models, either torsion beams got alot better or accountants are running things now because even a performance car like FN2R also uses torsion beams  cry.gif

not really... the EP3 was designed not long before the FN... and not long enough to be an "era"....even the satria neo dont have torsion beam....

just coz its a hatch, doesnt mean it must have torsion beam...this is not true as proven by so many other cars... torsion beam is by choice...not necessity (due to the car being a hatch)

n the main reason manufacturers use torsion beam is coz its cheap.

Any problem is get it tuned to RON 95, any long term issues to the engine??
Coz' I've to run on RON97 also and cannot tahan liaoowww...
*
y u have to run on ron97?

JC racing did a tune on hondata for a DC5-R to run on RON95....only lost 2whp...

BUT... unfortunately that engine blew... not the fault of the tune though... more like the circumstance of the moment...ie trying to pull with a superbike on MEX

ermmm... Coz my compression ratio is 11.8 and there insufficient flow in my exhaust. At least that's what JC Racing and also my engine builder told me.

Also when on Ron 95. There's a funny bubbling sound coming from my exhaust that's not there when I'm running RON 97. Not sure how to describe the sound, maybe correct term is backfire.
*
wat engine u running? and if ur on B series OBD0 or OBD1 or OBD2? and wats ur exhaust setup?

and do u have any form of management?
