Yes, u can create another gamertag, but:

1. You'll need another hotmail or live email
2. The aachievement, progress and gamesaves can't be continued
3. Each console is only limited to creation of 3 free gold account. So once you're on your third gold you can't create free gold anymore. This will have u shook your head in case of certain beta release which is region-specific (eg Battlefield 3 beta isn't available on SG gold GT), so u might save up your free gold quota for better reason than just wanna continue playing online.

Finger crossed, but mine still got no ban. Seems that this 'hack' isn't that offending for MS (me guess).

Furthermore the drive slot in Slim seems to be made practically to easily slot in the normal 2.5 hard drive. So it's more like MS aren't encouraging DIY method but not stopping it either.

Btw for everybody else that got no WD HDD laying around their desks, better buy the official HDD as the price is ok anyway.

Btw after knowing that, feel free to choose either you want to use the free quota or not. OTOH, some don't really care on their progress as long as they can play online (for just 3 months anyway), while some others are GS/progress freaks.

For me, well, I've previously used up all my free gold quota and I'm now hoping that I can have them back (currently I'm on paid gold, so that should mean something).

Some demo/beta are gold exclusives while being region-exclusive (eg Battlefield 3 Beta), so non-gold account won't work. On that kind of circumstances u'll need US GOLD GT, which might come handy if you save up your free gold quota.

As for the HDD, nope, the mod (HDD Hackr) is only doable on WD 2.5 HDD.
