Hey guys,

Previously(two days ago) I raised the GPS problem here and it seems no effective solution or that in this official post. I cant trace back where my post was. Here are some fix, which I found from scratch. And it works for my I9100, locates the satellites in <5 seconds and you can always keep the GPS off and turn it on when you need it.

Problem:
1) In the morning when I was going to work, I switched on the GPS settings(with 'USE WIRELESS NETWORKS' box unchecked, USE 'GPS SATELLITES' and 'USE SENSOR AIDING' boxes checked), and turned on Papago X5, it took about 5 minutes to locate the satellites.

My thought:
This is kinda strange, as my friends iPhone4 take only seconds to lock the GPS satellites on the same GPS apps(Papago X5)

General Information of My Phone
1) Firmware Version: XXKI3 (Android 2.3.5)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...156&postcount=2

2) Kernel: XXKI3 Stock Kernel

Here are my steps to get it fixed

1) First you have to get your SGS2 rooted. Please refer to the root instruction in the first page.

2) Download the Root Explorer.apk, so that you can read and write on your ADB. (Strongly suggest to install this application because you will use it not only for this purpose. And IT IS VERY USEFUL!!!)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.s...texplorer&hl=en

3) Download the GPS.conf file for the area you stay, mostly Malaysia, so go for Asia in that case.
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.ph...-solution.2022/

4) Open root explorer, go to system folder, and mount it as r/w, replace the GPS.conf file in your /system/app with the GPS.conf you have downloaded from step 3.

At first I thought this would solve the problem. But when I tried, nothing much improve for the latency to lock the GPS satellites. So here we go again. I found some lbstestmode secret code like *#*#3214789650#*#*, or *#*#1472365#*#* that are working in I9000, and I9003. But when neither of them are working with my SgS2. If any of you can reach the lbstestmode with the secret code above, do let me know.

5) So you need to install the lbstestmode.apk on your own. I cant remember from which website I downloaded the apk file, but if you need it you can PM me and I'll upload to you. It's just a small file.

6) Download and install the Any cut, it's free (Jeff Hamilton version)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.a...id.anycut&hl=en

7) Open the system folder, with the accessibility remain as r/w, open the folder /system/app and place the lbstestmode.apk under this directory.

8) Open any cut, click 'new shortcut' -> 'activity' -> Scroll down to 'L' and click lbstestmode -> click OK

9) Now it will place a short cut on your homepage so that you can access lbstestmode

10) And follow the methods below. I did method1+method3.
Copied from http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/in.../t-1032034.html
Method One – Most Successful , quickest GPS lock
Disable ‘Use Wireless Networks’ under Settings —> Location and Security.
Go into LbsTestMode (*#*#3214789650#*#*) or (use the shortcut method)
Go to Application Settings
Enable MS-Based Mode(in operation mode )
Increase Accuracy to 100
Leave the rest stock
Return to the main LbsTestMode menu
Go to SUPL/CP Settings
Select the Serve FQDN Type drop down menu
Hit AUTO Config
Exit to the dialer and reboot your Vibrant twice for good measure.

Method Two – Untested
1 – Disable “Use Wireless Networks” – Settings / Location & Security
2 – Dial *#*#3214789650#*#*
3 – Under “Application settings” Change “Operation Mode” to MS Based
4 – Under “SUPL/CP Settings” Change the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com and port 7276 [ Do not use www. in front of supl]
5 – REBOOT
6 – Turn back on the “User Wireless Networks”

Method Three – Untested by myself, but others have said it works
1 – Dial *#*#3214789650#*#*
2 – Go outside to get an unimpeded GPS fix.
3 – Choose Delete GPS Data button.
4 – Choose Get Position Test button. Let it run for 3 min or until you have 10 to 12 Sat locks and back out.

Method Four- By Joymoro

in Application Settings
operation mode - >Standalone
Start Mode -> hot start
Accuracy -> 100

SUPL/CP Settings
Serve FQDN Type -> Custom Config
Server -> supl.google.com
port -> 7276.

SO with this method I do not need to use A-GPS and my packet data can be left disabled?

Yes, you can always keep your A-GPS off, with proper standalone GPS software installed of course, for example Papago, Sygic Navigation.

That's why. I think this is a very serious problem in S2. Hope that Uncle Benny can put this in the first page.
