i think for mobiles, there's no such thing as future proof yet. it depends on the person as well... for me, i'm hoping my sgs2 will last me 5yrs... but the sifu here all seem to think it won't be practical for smartphone (this is my first smartphone).

as for playing the waiting game... at this rate things are being churned out... you'll be waiting forever... there's a new tegra chip launched every year... doubling in speed. do google the timeline. the next one is due sometime now or end 2011... so, again... more powerful phones, etc...

funny thing... processor technology improves but battery technology... still long way to go.

to me... if sgs2 meets your requirements (play with it at shop, etc), then just get it!

i just mentioned a post earlier, i think... personally... no such thing as good time or not. but in terms of prices, its dropped a bit since it was first launched. the speed tech is evolving... there's just a new and more powerful phone everyday (ok, its like every few months). but having said that... i'm surprised sgs2 is still the *best* android phone around. more than 6mths old and there's no solid replacement. this is amazing considering that before that, the 'best' phone held the title for only 2-3 mths...

as for good or not good... if now all you can find is the G version, no choice, right? i dun think samsung would have done any drastic changes to the point where their reputation suffers...

for me... its not really abt battery drain (though logically, it will drain a bit). it's more to do with why they need this... i just can't see why? clock counters? i'm sure there's some programming method to 'cheat'. there's no need to run real time clock counter, right?

from desire and sgs2... i won't really say its a major/ huge upgrade. well, someone just shared the details of jusco sales... but i din do the calculation... not sure if its worth it. but if buy with credit card, get credit card points... then you get jusco vouchers... and with credit card, i think some let you convert it to installment plans...

but if you plan to get from digi... ya, then its just smart plan + phone.

with digi... i dun think they have adjusted the price for sgs2 yet. i read on soyacincau that they have revised the package for sensation. so, if price is not revised... the discount is not so much anymore la... but still, need a plan, so... a bit of discount is still better than none. if your usage is below 1GB, get the rm48 plan. i think its a better deal.

Root will not improve batt life but it gives you possibility to tweak your device which may or may not lead to slightly better batt life. G model got no custom rom at the moment.

rooting ur phone only gives you root access, and lets you use apps like titanium backup(to backup apps), adsfree(to block ads in those free market apps) and many more. it doesnt improve battery.

in that 3 hours, did u use ur phone? if just in standby for 3 hours and no data, then not good
