To those wanting to get back more RAM because the RAM seems to be eaten up after a while, use :

QUOTE(penny2 @ Oct 2 2011, 10:26 PM) Hey guys, SO with this method I do not need to use A-GPS and my packet data can be left disabled?Previously(two days ago) I raised the GPS problem here and it seems no effective solution or that in this official post. I cant trace back where my post was. Here are some fix, which I found from scratch. And it works for my I9100, locates the satellites in <5 seconds and you can always keep the GPS off and turn it on when you need it. Problem: 1) In the morning when I was going to work, I switched on the GPS settings(with 'USE WIRELESS NETWORKS' box unchecked, USE 'GPS SATELLITES' and 'USE SENSOR AIDING' boxes checked), and turned on Papago X5, it took about 5 minutes to locate the satellites. My thought: This is kinda strange, as my friends iPhone4 take only seconds to lock the GPS satellites on the same GPS apps(Papago X5) General Information of My Phone 1) Firmware Version: XXKI3 (Android 2.3.5) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...156&postcount=2 2) Kernel: XXKI3 Stock Kernel Here are my steps to get it fixed 1) First you have to get your SGS2 rooted. Please refer to the root instruction in the first page. 2) Download the Root Explorer.apk, so that you can read and write on your ADB. (Strongly suggest to install this application because you will use it not only for this purpose. And IT IS VERY USEFUL!!!) https://market.android.com/details?id=com.s...texplorer&hl=en 3) Download the GPS.conf file for the area you stay, mostly Malaysia, so go for Asia in that case. http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.ph...-solution.2022/ 4) Open root explorer, go to system folder, and mount it as r/w, replace the GPS.conf file in your /system/app with the GPS.conf you have downloaded from step 3. At first I thought this would solve the problem. But when I tried, nothing much improve for the latency to lock the GPS satellites. So here we go again. I found some lbstestmode secret code like *#*#3214789650#*#*, or *#*#1472365#*#* that are working in I9000, and I9003. But when neither of them are working with my SgS2. If any of you can reach the lbstestmode with the secret code above, do let me know. 5) So you need to install the lbstestmode.apk on your own. I cant remember from which website I downloaded the apk file, but if you need it you can PM me and I'll upload to you. It's just a small file. 6) Download and install the Any cut, it's free (Jeff Hamilton version) https://market.android.com/details?id=com.a...id.anycut&hl=en 7) Open the system folder, with the accessibility remain as r/w, open the folder /system/app and place the lbstestmode.apk under this directory. 8) Open any cut, click 'new shortcut' -> 'activity' -> Scroll down to 'L' and click lbstestmode -> click OK 9) Now it will place a short cut on your homepage so that you can access lbstestmode 10) And follow the methods below. I did method1+method3. Copied from http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/in.../t-1032034.html Method One – Most Successful , quickest GPS lock Disable ‘Use Wireless Networks’ under Settings —> Location and Security. Go into LbsTestMode (*#*#3214789650#*#*) or (use the shortcut method) Go to Application Settings Enable MS-Based Mode(in operation mode ) Increase Accuracy to 100 Leave the rest stock Return to the main LbsTestMode menu Go to SUPL/CP Settings Select the Serve FQDN Type drop down menu Hit AUTO Config Exit to the dialer and reboot your Vibrant twice for good measure. Method Two – Untested 1 – Disable “Use Wireless Networks” – Settings / Location & Security 2 – Dial *#*#3214789650#*#* 3 – Under “Application settings” Change “Operation Mode” to MS Based 4 – Under “SUPL/CP Settings” Change the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com and port 7276 [ Do not use www. in front of supl] 5 – REBOOT 6 – Turn back on the “User Wireless Networks” Method Three – Untested by myself, but others have said it works 1 – Dial *#*#3214789650#*#* 2 – Go outside to get an unimpeded GPS fix. 3 – Choose Delete GPS Data button. 4 – Choose Get Position Test button. Let it run for 3 min or until you have 10 to 12 Sat locks and back out. Method Four- By Joymoro in Application Settings operation mode - >Standalone Start Mode -> hot start Accuracy -> 100 SUPL/CP Settings Serve FQDN Type -> Custom Config Server -> supl.google.com port -> 7276. |

My personal opinion on extended battery's:
I would much rather buy an external power bank that can also charge up my other phones and mp3 players than invest in a huge-ass battery for my <9 mm thick phone... Under maximum heavy use, the phone can still last more than 3 hours, which is definitely longer than the period that we are separated from the power pack.....and during that time of usage, we can enjoy our thin phone. Not to mention that the power banks are so much cheaper than the phone battery's, and have multiple uses... And lets face it, we don't only have 1 electronic device with us, most of us have walkmans/ ipods which can also be charged from a power bank. |

QUOTE(heavy rain @ Oct 3 2011, 10:19 PM) Exynos 4212 Dual Core 1.5GHz gonna blow SGS2 really hard LOL, problem is that some of us have our phones running at 1.6GHz.....and the only difference is the processor, not the GPU, so games would look like crap on a huge high res screen....and will run worse if the resolution of the game is increasedoh wait, wrong thread, i should post this in iphone thread my bad, ma bad |

QUOTE(Helghan @ Oct 3 2011, 10:38 PM) Samsung Exynos 4212 is the successor to 4210 that power the SGS2.It is built using a 32-nanometer process compare to 45-nanometer process on 4210 of SGS2, 4212 packs a new graphics core, which should deliver up to 50% faster rendering of 3D graphics. Ohh, I didn't know about the increase in GPU power....well, it needs to be much much more powerful to power a screen of that resolution....at least 4 times more powerful (find the total num of pixels and divide total num of our pixels), which it isn't.....so it should perform much worse in apps that actually use all those pixels instead of just upscalingeven if you overclock your SGS2 to 1.6 ghz or even 2.0 i dont think you can beat the 4212 EDIT: it should need at least 2.5 times the power in everything to perform the same as our phones... EDIT 2: so many websites online with leaked specs...dont know which to believe...either way, minimum 2 and a half times the CPU and GPU power This post has been edited by ashwin1234: Oct 3 2011, 10:45 PM |

QUOTE(waveweaver @ Oct 3 2011, 10:51 PM) Friend., don't get confused between CPU and GPU. The Exynos 4212 for Nexus and Exynos 4210 for SGSII is CPU not GPU. The GPU for SGSII is ARM Mali-400:-P |

QUOTE(waveweaver @ Oct 3 2011, 11:24 PM) I understand what you're saying destEX. It ashwin1234 that make me confused. Nexus will be using more advance CPU an probably more advance GPU to accomodate the higher resolution/more pixel. So why is wrong with that? Didn't mean to cause confusion...what I meant was if you compare a screen of 2x2 and 1x1, the 2x2 has 4 times the number of pixels, so would need more power to PUSH those pixels with an image....so IF an app were to run at that native resolution, it would need a whole lot more power.Understand now? If still don't, please PM me and I will gladly explain |

QUOTE(waveweaver @ Oct 3 2011, 11:49 PM) ~~duhh~~ I never said there was a problem And that is why Nexus is using more powerful/advance CPU/GPU. So what is the problem in that.?? I'm sure Nexus Google/Samsung engineer and technician is more bright than us and had test and culculate all this technical thing before they release the phone to market. |

QUOTE(plain_white @ Oct 3 2011, 11:55 PM) hmm...so far speed i tink no problem la..just think a bit overpaid for a slightly inferior device...anyway, after 1 week of using this phone, i encountered 2 major problems: If you point a camera at the red light, you will notice that it appears as a flickering white light 1)Data stalling issues...won't work even after i turn off the HSDPA as suggested by other forumers...In my case, i have to reboot everytime to get back data connection. Not working even even turning on and off the flight mode 2) The red light of the proximity sensor... But today just updated my firmware OTA to 2.3.5. Seems like the data problem is solved(fingers crossed) but the red light still persist. Also, i tink the battery life kinda poor |
