Yes, I'm driving Ford Fiesta Sedan..

I done my tint at Pana S @ Cheras, 3M Authorised Car Centres which also listed they info too..

I'm using CR60 for my windscreen, CR50 for other screen. But this should not be the issue.. biggrin.gif

I do try to monitor the lcd screen on the Smart Tag, but it show nothing and the Toll booth also not responding. Until I wind down the window, and point out the Smart Tag. Then it can read on the spot.. rclxub.gif

I'll try to put the Smart Tag on the dashboard, and try again as you've advise.

Many Thanks..

ford fiesta? and you got your tint done at tintworks? the circled area doesn't work because the dots are too close to each other, unlike vios.

i have 3M CR70 on my windscreen too, no problem for smartag to work, just have to drive REAL SLOW (almost complete stop). the transaction will be delayed, it will show "no smartag" at first but continue to hold it until the transaction goes through.

better still, if your smartag has a lcd screen, u will be able to see whether smartag is transmitting as there is a indicator to show it is transmitting.

never have to wind down my window so far.

friend's vios have CR60 all over as well, transaction still go through with slow drive.

Added on October 2, 2011, 3:24 amThanks Bro. My 3M Crystalline also installed from authorized 3M dealer. It is also stated at 3M website as well..

They do provide me the "eWarranty" site for verify our product.

The GPS is working fine, very fast detect location. Better than my last tinted film (VCool) on my old car.. tongue.gif

As you've recommend and many member recommend too, I'll try to put on the dashboard to try again.. nod.gif

Many Thanks for your info & advise.. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

i am using genuine 3M crystalline solar film (CR70 + CR40) at authorized 3M dealer (with online certificate of 10 yrs warranty).

I totally have no problem using smart tag with the tint, just need to place the smart tag on my dashboard and it will work.

frankly speaking, i noticed there are a lot of ppl claimed that their "3M" tint got prob with smart tag, but i myself do not experience any. I do not know where you guys installed ur "3M" maybe just any outside workshop. but seriously i will nvr trust outside workshop that claimed to have 3M tint. in fact if you check on 3M malaysia website, there are only limited authorized dealer which sell it or so called qualified installer of the tint. The price you guys mentioned about the "3M" you have also varied. And apparently i believe most of you are told that there is only 5 yrs of warranty. and a lot of you guys do not even have the valid certificate on the warranty? maybe that's only what are being told by the workshop you did the installation?

especially for those who have prob with smart tag or even GPS, i seriously doubt that ur "3M" tint is genuine, as specified clearly on 3M website, their tint do not come with metal inside at all unlike vkool, it should not affect the smart tag as well.

i think instead of scratching ur head on this issue, maybe u want to confirm if urs is genuine in the first place?

for warranty, you should be given a code after installation to do the online registration.

im using cystaline 70. i do have a hole to use on smart tag but im not using the hole at all. juz put your smart tag device stick to your windscreen. and slow down ur car pretty slow. then will do.

i mean really drive slow and put your smart tag stick to your mirror. im using it everytime without problem.

Just slow down below 20km/h will do. Need not really to stick to windscreen, I just hold it facing windscreen.

I have 3m as well.
I place it on the dashport using Velcro so that I can remove from sight when not in use.
For most tolls I have no problems if I drive slowly. It will read not detected first but as I move along it will detect and off I go.
For a few tolls it will work straightaway.
I think the key is to drive real slow.

I use CR60 on windscreen. Initially I have same problem. But once i tried many method and i found out the most effective way to pass through.

1. The smart Tag must attached at the centre of the windscreen and just right above the dashboard and away from your seating position.

2. You have to drive really slow ~10+km/h to let the smart tag work. It works on every smart tag toll i went through with this method.

***The key point ---> Attached on right location + Don't rush.

All my cars are on Crystalline

I'm the idiot you see sticking his hand out of the window at the Smart Tag lane biggrin.gif I refused to have the dark band at the top. If i go really slow through the lane I wouldn't need to wind down the window. I use 2nd and 3rd gen tags this one

Seriously though, the darker band also serves to let the smartag signal pass, but if it is stuck on the Crystalline (I highly doubt so), then it wouldn't work

If your car has a sunroof, you don't need to put your hand out of the window. biggrin.gif

I also don't like the dark band on the front screen. I squeeze my smart tag in the area where it is not tinted... The top centre part near where my rear view mirror comes out.

Yeah depends on the car. If sunroof tinted then its the same, still have to wind back.

Just for the benefit of those who might be running into similiar issues with smart tag, I can confirm that using the new smart tag (slim full black which appears to have a bit better reception) I have had no problems passing through.

You do have however have to slow down a little bit more, and most importantly go closer towards the toll gate before it opens up.

Same issue here, is it true the slim smart tag has better signal range? The fat smart tag can't be detected via the sun visor.

My fat smart tag can't be detected through sun visor. Tested multiple times, battery checked, credit checked... The only thing unchecked is using the slim type. So I need verification b4 I went on to buy 1.

I believed one of the reason fat smart tag is claimed to be better is bcos after so many years the reader still functional, unlike the slim one which reader tend to be unreadable after certain period. But in my case I just want it to be detected behind the sun visor lol.

guys, smartag is based on infra-red, which is blocked by the tint along with the IRR heat rejection.

regardless of the fat/slim type, it will not work.
the only way is to cut a hole for the beam to pass through
else wait for rfid.

last time vcool also like that. if the car infront of me got 3m and vcool sticker, dont follow too close. likely get sangkut

My case is exactly like the topic starter. I'm using my smart tag through a cut out hole of 3M tint (therefore no issue with the tint), it was fine until i install another layer of sun visor over the hole. My smart tag can't seem to be detected at the same location.
