to drill tiles, u need normal drill function..
then oni u use the hammer function after u made a hole on the tiles...

the demolition hammer above might and might not have it,
some have 3 modes, some have 2 modes only...

for ur DIY job, u don't need a demolition hammer
but preferably a rotary hammer will make the job easier...

impact drill oso can, but a bit slow for concrete wall...

RM 300 for new rotary hammer, u can oni get china brands....
less than rm500 for branded ones..

but skill rotary is RM 299.

here a list of rotary sold on mudah..

http://www.mudah.my/Malaysia/rotary%20hamm...-sale?sp=1&st=s
*
H2D, i am thinking to get a cordless drill to do few DIY job, but occasionally i will need it to drill my house wall to hang few things.
some people said that cordless drill is not sufficient to drill wall, is it true?
i dont think my wall is a concrete or beam except area at the corners or pillars.

which one is more economical for my case?
a) buy one cordless drill (Skil or Black&Decker RM180++) for DIY job and one corded drill for wall (Black&Decker for RM140++)
b) buy one cordless drill (BOSCH RM300++) for both job.

but if I go for option B, which model should i get? my max budget is not more than RM400 rclxub.gif

your diy job, involves screwing n drilling small holes? on wood n metal?

a cordless is much more convenient. if u mainly wana screw n drill holes, ( except wall )

get a cordless with adjustable clutch.

the more expensive, the lighter the tool n bigger battery capacity.

pref Li-Ion model.
user posted image

a cordless drill without impact, will take a long time.. to drill brick wall.

if the hole is small.. u can try.. make sure dun burn the motor, let it rest a few times.

a corded impact drill, can cover most of ur need except, u will find it very diff to control if u wana
screw, oso heavy..

a rotary hammer is mainly for drilling brick n masonry concrete, chiseling...
uses SDS+ chuck, it might not be the one u need.

i think u should invest in a cordless first. get a good one. go to hardware shop to test, some have demo units.
get one tht u feel is not too heavy.

then try on ur wall, if it really can't drill the hole, then u get another corded impact drill. ( u sound like drilling wall is ur 2nd priority.)
*
Yes true enough, drilling wall is my second priority.
Coz I m not gonna drill wall every month and I m not a house contractor.

Currently I m eyeing for Skil 2214 with 14v dual gear and clutch. Is it a good option?

Some people said for diy, just get a China brand cordless drill also can, is it true?

Just get a cord impact drill with 500w capacity. It can do both job. Wall and DIY. Just train yourself a bit more muscle. But not that heavy either.

Cordless can do limited job. With just screw and drilling. The only good is lighter without cord.
*
train my muscle is no problem biggrin.gif
but the problem is it damaged my screw and my furniture tongue.gif

QUOTE(H2D @ Feb 23 2014, 05:04 PM)
wht do u wana do most with your drill, tht's the most important thing...  biggrin.gif
cordless can screw much better than an impact drill with cord....
n much more convenient just grab n go...
no nid all those pull wire thing..
for ur first tool, i think better just get SKIL cos it is backed by bosch service,
i've been to their service center in jalan ipoh, very decent, can get job done fast.

china stuff... well....
if u wana use it just for a few times, n very sure not gona use it again for a long long time,
then it is worth a gamble...
but the price has to be cheap, real cheap...

for eg, i just got a rm50 china jigsaw...
done a few jobs with it...
and 1 part easily cracks... n i can't get any replacement parts...
so when it is fully cracked, i won't be able to use it anymore..

skil 2214 , with dual speed...
it meets ur budget so i think it is worth it...
*
ok will go for it smile.gif

I don't no which 1 more important for you. The saving or the type of work.

For saving 2in1, Impact drill can save your money. Cause it can use for wall and any normal drilling. For screw, just use screw driver.

Or train yourself how to control it. The impact drill like bosch is speed controllable.

Otherwise you got to buy 2 type of drill.

I use a lot of impact drill for Ikea furniture assembly. Not a problem at all.
*
yes u are correct smile.gif
but i found last time corded drill give me too much hassle in assembling furniture especially the complicated one.
first, the size is big and will have restriction on accessibility
second, all the tangling wire make me uncomfortable rclxub.gif

any one here owns SKIL2414 or GSR10.8 any differences? also does any one know the cordless skill and bosch 10.8 li battery is the same?  many thanks
*
Eng_Tat, as my previous post biggrin.gif
i've just bought a cordless skil 2414 10.8v but i dont own Bosch 10.8v
i only tested the display set at the hardware shop
but these are my understanding:

1. Skil 2414 is light compared to Bosch. but the battery capacity is same. my assumption, battery power would be no difference.

2. Skil 2414 having lower torque and lower rpm. Bosch is doing better in terms of torque and RPM.

3. Price is huge different. Skil 2414 is lithium ion battery and cost at RM300. Bosch is more than RM4++. if your budget is rm300, u can get a Bosch with same capacity but using Ni-Cd battery, price at rm300++

Just use the screw driver if you want to save. It is not your everyday job right ? And you as strong as a man?  flex.gif
*
screw driver cannot penetrate steel, bro
its not my everyday job but it is one of my hobby.
i dont drill my brick wall every year but i drill scrap steel plate, scrap steel bar and screw/unscrew unused furniture almost every month. thats why i opt for cordless.

actually for weight, it is second priority for me because a DIY person normally already adapt to it.
but still, it is better to be light instead of bulky tongue.gif

im bought skill 2414 after reading gud feedback from user mostly from US...very satisfied with gud battery life ,grips and nice carrying bag..with the price  cheaper than bosch you can buy extra drill bits  sets..that what i do thumbup.gif
*
thumbup.gif
same to me.
Skil 2414 is definitely worth to own it. very light and comfortable enuf.

QUOTE(aztechx @ Mar 2 2014, 10:33 PM)
Was just surveying around for drill and i bumped into this wonderful thread..guess my usage will be similar to most already asked here..minor drillings in my condo. Walls included..wsa budgeting around rm300 for a drill. Googled around for what to look for, otherwise i might have chosen the one with the most attractive box which in my case is the black and deckers  tongue.gif

Was seriously considering the 12v black and decker EPC12 for my usage.
*
Cordless drill brand Skil 2414 is rm290 with nylon carrying case
if u go for black n decker, its much cheaper because its NiCD battery but comes with metal case with 120++ drill bits.
for me its a good one but the only drawback is the NiCD battery.
u need to full charge and full discharge before u can use it back. if ur ok with this, then Black n Decker is a good for u smile.gif

FYI,
last time i purchased a cordless drill SKIL 2414 10.8V, price around RM200 with two speed and 15 clutch
its more recommended compared to Black & Decker
recently i tried to drill hole on my living room wall and walla! its work! biggrin.gif
successfully hanged my 42" TV and 80" large mirror

guys, currently i m using Skil 2414 Cordless Drill for casual DIY use.
can drill through the big grey brick wall with no sweat.
When it comes to the red small brick and concrete, I cannot penetrate not even 2mm sweat.gif sweat.gif

now thinking to change with Cordless Drill Bosch GSB-1080-2-Li comes with impact function 18,000 beat per minutes.
is this recommended? anyone had experience using this drill?

If you see properly, my makita cordless is an impact driver. Mean for screw driving. Not for mansory.

Another 1 is wood/metal drill. The chuck doesn't suit for impact and it don't have impact mode. sad.gif
*
eh? the spec shows 200in/pound isn't for impact?

its too expensive
my budget is not more than rm300
even the bosch itself actually is not in my list because of the price is rm360

i am a not-so-casual DIY but this tools sufficiently helps me in hanging household item

BOSCH GSB 1080-2-Li

its a cordless drill with hammer function, so far it serve me well to hang my TV, 8ft mirror and toilet storage racks.
for low speed and high torque, I switch mode to screw driving mode for other DIY jobs like study table assembly, cabinet assembly and some other wood stuff

assembly, screw driving = ok

i think normal plaster wall with bricks = ok

if its drilling a hole in concrete wall = no

i am using this for normal installing works and screw driving, and its still rather big to handle ...

for my curtain project - i got the Makita HR2470, makes the concrete wall look like tofu ...
*
concrete wall can but takes longer time because of the bpm is less compared to electrical corded drill
for me, as a user that drills concrete wall once every 3 years or maybe 10 years, i just go with it.
