Hi fellow DIYer's, I need some guidance on the following:

I want to drill walls/concrete to install things like:
- retractable wall-mounted clothes hanger
- curtain railings.

I am taking a look at the following drill:

Hammer Drill
Item Code: KR-704-REK-13mm

Specifications:
* Power Input: 710W
* Chuck Size: 2-13mm
* Speed: 0-2800 rpm
* Impact Rate: 0-47600 bpm

Max Drill Capacity
* Wood: 20mm
* Steel: 13mm
* Masonry: 13mm

Is the Black and Decker model that I mentioned good as an all-in-one solution for the long term?
I am on a budget, and actually looked at Bosch GSB 10RE / GSB 500RE. However I was told that this model is not powerful enough to drill through concrete. Is this true? Can anybody help clarify on this point?

I have this bosch 500re. It not powerfull enough to drill thru concrete or red brick. You need higher than 500w. If you just drill for wall plug, not a problem.

Thanks for the guidance so far guys; The price difference between Bosch 10 / 500RE isn't all that big. so I guess the Black and Decker option should be a more suitable one for the long term. By the way, anyone heard of the following: Bosch power tools have only a 6 month warranty period attached to them, while B & D has 1-year warranty?

It doesn't matter what brand. As long as it over 500w power, you can drill bigger hole and any material. Many brand have more power tools. I don't no what brand can be use for longterm now. But my bosch 500re is already 14yrs old. Still can be use. While sometime the button sot sot. Time to retire I guess.  sad.gif

Those tools just warranty 6mth is cheaper type and not for heavy duty. Avoid it if you have budget.

Many contractor I see is using makita. While those hardcore contractor using Hilti. They avoid Bosch.

Thanks for the extra info. By the way, this is a newbie question I have to ask:

Chuck size is up to 13mm, so of course I understand that this means it can support up to 13mm drill size.
My question is, the 13mm chuck can also support 10mm drill size right?

Yes. The max drill bit dia is 13mm. You can put in any drill bit 13mm and below.

But if fully close the chuck and still got hole in the center remain, than there is min drill bit diameter that can be insert.

Appreciate the advice, thanks once again. Now I can go drill with confidence! cool2.gif
