For now, I think its just scare tactics. Just to remind everyone not to join any illegal server. Which is funny because these servers are nothing more than dedicated servers, and once upon a time, we used to have dedicated server support 

The main thing here is that, in BF3, anyone who want to have their own dedicated server needs to rent from DICE official ranked server provider. Meaning, you cannot start your own dedicated server from your PC.

Here, people are doing it, and DICE is just running around shouting blasphemy. IF people can still create their own server in the future, they don't want people to join them as so, they have to scare everyone so we will not use these server in the future.

there eventually may be someform of dedicated server, as EA previously said its going to be more competition friendly.
but even if u want one, for what? it'll be unranked anyway.

try closer to almost RM1000.

btw, about costs of the servers.
i see someone say its SGD8 / slot? that may be true for UNRANKED servers for the older games like BF2 / BF2142 / BC2 etc.
RANKED servers are just a little bit more, and i heard so far that running a RANKED BF3 server is going to be almost double the cost.
