TS, if you don't intend to have your kitchen cabinet to reach the ceiling, then the only option is to box up.
You could get your plaster ceiling guy to do that. Or get the furniture guy to do a box up with a removal panel that is fasten with screws. That way, you could remove the panel if the need arises.
Paint the box up the same colour as the ceiling/ wall. Then it will not be noticeable.
