very true, car handling is far more than just front and rear weight distribution... 

not sure about the small difference in heat affecting the battery life span la... my battery dont have a life span-o-meter... lolz...

but most people who move the battery to the back mainly due to 2 reason... cosmetic.... or engine bay too packed (in most turbocharged engine)....

for weight distribution purpose, most track car i see their battery is on the passenger seat wor.... i thought most weight contain within the wheelbase has better pros than cons??... 

moving ur battery anywhere does gives some effect such as...

- the further ur battery it is (longer wires), the less power available to crank the car... mayb modern starter doesnt takes up that much power to crank the engine, hence less effect... but for older cars like us using old technology starter, they does consume loads of power whenever we crank the engine... hence, if u are using NS60 battery and moved ur battery to the rear with some normal welding cable, dont be surprise if it takes slightly longer/effort to crank ur engine...

- maintenance battery emits some sort of hazardous fume (acid???)... if placed in cabin or rear trunk, it could be harmful in long term if u use ur car alot with windows up.... so, if u plans to move it, gets a non-maintenance battery... or find some box/container to hold it...

sometimes we think of creative yet stupid ideas for our cars... some might think it works based on whatever theoretical knowledge we have... but some who already does it might think otherwise... if advice given is not taken, its alright... try it urself... modding is all about spending money afterall... we learn from mistake and move on....

i say, stuck in the same position and not moving (with your engine running), then yes i agree the air will get hot..
but then again (i did mention too), how often will u be stuck in the same position for 1-2 hours except for mega events like bersih?

aisey... seems that your understanding is more shallow then i thought...

think back, dont you think battery manufacturer already take into account about the heat coming from the engine bay when designing and manufacturing the battery?
then why car manufacturer did not design the car with battery at the back?
and do you have a official data on battery last longer with your idea?

everyone already mention here la... battery relocation main purpose is for weight distribution and not extending the life laaaaaaa.... aisey...
