FGN Guitars from Japan!
user posted image
FGN Guitars started production in 1960 as Fujigen Gakki. They based at Matsumoto in Japan and is named after the famous Mount Fuji. Gen means stringed instruments and Gakki means musical instrument - the name being literally translated as "Fuji Stringed Musical Instruments". FujiGen does OEM guitar manufacturing for well known guitar brands and they also manufacture their own brands of guitars such as FGN Guitars.

They first started off making violins and classical guitars. In 1962 FujiGen started production of electric guitars. In the 1970s FujiGen started making guitars (OEM) for companies such as Hoshino Gakki (Ibanez), Kanda Shokai (Greco guitars) and Yamaha. In 1977/1978 FujiGen went into a joint venture with Roland Roland Corporation to produce guitar synthesizers. In 1981 FujiGen opted to mainly concentrate on solid body guitar production. FujiGen obtained a CNC router in mid 1981 for making guitar parts and also began to manufacture their own pickups starting in late 1981.

In 1981/1982 FujiGen obtained the Fender Japan contract which lasted until 1996/1997 and in 1983 FujiGen were producing 14,000 guitars a month with 80% of the guitars being made for export markets and 20% being made for Japanese domestic markets. In mid/late 1992 FujiGen obtained a part of the Orville by Gibson contract which ended in 1998 and from then on have made Epiphone Japan solid body guitars, some Gretsch models and their own branded FGN guitars. FujiGen still do OEM guitar manufacturing for companies like Ibanez and Epiphone but in much smaller quantities than in the past. FujiGen has 3 factories, the Omachi factory in Nagano, the Hirooka factory (established around 1992) in Nagano and the Matsumoto head office factory in Nagano.

Establishing FUJIGEN's original Brand (FGN Guitars)

Over the years, Fujigen became one of the top OEM for many prestigious guitar brands, and by 2009 decided to launch their own brand named as FGN Guitars.

Well, this post is only talking about the FGN Brand and nothing about the products they sell and we did not reveal any specific product, specs or even the prices. That is why we think that this is the appropriate section to post this. We basically just want to tell you guys about FGN and try to get a discussion going. So dont worry, we know what we're doing smile.gif

Thanks for your concern!

The head stock is different from the FGN is because the original Les Paul Model is meant for Japan market. Due to pressure from "Gibson" they have withdrawn all promotion materials regarding the FGN Les Paul. However the Les Paul model is still widely popular in USA and in Europe countries. Come and try out at our showroom and you will understand what I am talking about!

Hi: Yes, they also have the ES335 version out! You can check out this thread which says about their makes on the ES-335. They use to make for the Epiphone Japan, Greco. http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=912030 and also here http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/my-other-guitars/154594-ngd-epiphone-es335-made-japan-2000-a.html

Candor Music may not be monitoring this forum (as the thread is 3 years old); better to contact them directly or visit their showroom. Coincidentally, I dropped by Candor Music last week during the Raya break and enquired about FujiGen guitars. I recall they had a couple of units available - the LP w/ P90s and the Strat (lower right and center respectively in the photo).

FYI, Fujigen is not obscure brand... they are skilled luthiers who make the J. Custom Ibanez (Team J Craft) and those who made the Orville by Gibson, Fender Japan stuff...

This is considered one of the best guitars better than current day Gibson at a cheaper price...

hehe. of coz. 'obscure' is not mean to be an insult, it's just that they hv less breakthrough worldwide. smile.gif but the quality speaks for itself, hence the price. icon_rolleyes.gif
