hi guys,

can advice where can I get the hAP ac RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT ?
and how much ?

thanks.
*
You can get it from one of the distributor at lelong for under 600 inclusive of shipping. Not sure why other distributor not bringing it in even though it has been released for about a year, unlike hex r3 which was released quite recently.

My RB951G-2HnD gone bricked... Damn... Previously RB751 also died like that... Even Netinstall is not working... Haiz... 2 pieces Mikrotik don't last more than 2 years... Really disappointed.
*
How do you get it bricked? Updating firmware? or running metarouter crap? Don't write to the nand too much it will die eventually. The only mikrotik that I had problem is due to bad nand chip that is unfortunately had bad block causing problem with routerboot & the dumb f**k distributor had zero knowledge of routerboot & refuse to replace it even though it was within warranty. Mikrotik support can't even help me & simply ask me (they only replied to me couple months later) to continue use older routerboot that is smaller in size.

Firmware was upgraded few months ago. Was running good till yesterday. It just died like that, no symptoms, nothing. Not resettable with the RES button and jumper reset. It just beep once and nothing happens. Manually configured IP in Win 10 show unidentified network, netinstall not detecting either. bye.gif

Since you are mentioning about nand writes, I guess log file is the culprit then, because I have few scheduled scripts running to check if any of the WAN is down, do routes have to be changed, and to power reset the USB since it always hung after few hours session. I am running few WANs, Streamyx, USB modem, mobile hotspot.
*
Try use a different power adapter. Sometimes failing power adapter can cause booting process to stall or boot loops. Try trigger it to boot to network by holding reset while powering up. Also make sure the pc firewall not interfere with netinstall. You may have to use the first port for net boot if not mistaken.

Tried every f'king solutions I could found on google dy. bangwall.gif
Adapter changed, various of reset pattern, press, no press, 5 seconds, 30 seconds, press & release, 30/30/30, yada yada. I think almost hundred times since yesterday. Tried port 1 to 5 all to no avail.

But it is very ridiculous if just died like 1000 lines of log per 24 hours. 1000 is not really that much I presume?
If their nand is so weak, they should have either throw in a sd card slot or make log files write directly to pc drive then. Or just pure bad luck it died on me, as lot of users here able to let mikrotik handles hundred to thousand of connection without dying.

I don't know should I get another RB951. Dilemma.
*
You turned on logging to disk (in this case your internal nand flash)? It is not about the number of lines but frequency of the same block rewritten. The nand writes on these embedded devices usually don't have wear levelling on it and require wear levelling on the software level (such as jffs filesystem) on user writetable partition. I don't know if routeros used any flash optimised file system to handle wear leveling for internal flash storage. You should use external USB storage if you have frequent writes to storage.

Anyway net boot procedure for mikrotik is very specific not the usual generic reset sequence nonsense usually mentioned in ddwrt/openwrt. The following site explains it pretty detailed each https://tushev.org/articles/blog/16/how-to-...51g-2hnd-router

My oldest RB951G is 3.5y but only 380K writes. As long as the write is not on the same block too frequently, it is fine. RB951G is using slc nand. Newer model use spi flash instead of slc nand flash. Older model also may have small spi flash for some critical stuffs. Apparently routeros does have some sort of wear leveling mechanism according to mikrotik website & slc nand had 100K cycle endurance.

I don't even bother trying to use mikrotik RBs for switching purpose since the last time I tried it on a RB2011UAS-RM back in 2013. Not only there are limitations that prevented my intended configuration, the routing performance is also really bad (less than 500mbit throughput on anything that has to pass through the CPU). If you want a mikrotik for switch functionality, use CRS instead. On RBs, more often than not you will have to rely on bridging as the not all the switch functionality is there unlike a managed switch.

• FastTrack seems to be causing problems, maybe. Currently off. Working OK but RB2011 at 80% when routing full 60mbps. Time to buy RB750Gr3!
What kind of issue you encountered with fasttrack? You can use connection mark to skip fasttrack for certain connections or for use with queues etc. You will have to disable compression & encryption on pppoe for it to work with fasttrack or else the the performance will be lower than without fasttrack enabled.

RB750Gr3 & ER-X (I have both) is what I generally recommend for people wanting a better router but already had existing ac wifi routers/aps. RB750Gr3 routing throughput is significantly better the older single core MIPSBE RBs. But the sustained max throughput using hardware queue is a bit lower and inconsistent than I hoped for (~1600mbps instead of > 1800mbps). But still it is much better throughput than my ER-X (~900mbps) even though they have the same chipset. Maybe ER-X was crippled by design to avoid competing with ERL-3. But pity RB750Gr3 don't have POE out or else you can use it directly with wAP ac/hAP ac/hAP ac lite.

jio With Fasttrack on and load balancing, browsing is slow. It's odd. It takes a few secs for a page to load up but once it does, loading subsequent pages are ok. Speedtest loads slow but tests at full speed. So not sure where's the prob. Feels like a prob with new connections but ok if established or related. Also one of the Mikrotik guys, Uldis I think, said Fasttrack not compatible with PCC. Not sure what he meant by that. I see if I can find that post again.

Anyway I was already in over my head with the load balancing so I turned off FT to concentrate on getting the load balancing working.

The 750Gr3, I think, is awesome. It is so cheap. How much is the ER-X from a local supplier?
*
Hmm. Will try setup load balancing PCC with fastrack & see. I only had multi wan setups with queues, so no fasttrack for those.

Yeah, RB750Gr3 is really good price/performance. And dude server support is a plus. Much better than buying overpriced consumer wifi router if you already had ac wifi router given by the ISP. If you need fancy non-networking stuffs from those overpriced routers, just use cheap devices such as pi3 & odroid c2. The cpu is faster and won't cripple or destabilise your network under heavy load. I wished RB960PGS had the same chipset as RB750Gr3. Anyway ER-X is around 300 if not mistaken. I got mine from eurodk though.

QUOTE(kmrdeva @ Feb 28 2017, 09:40 PM)
Looks like RB750Gr3 or the ER-X will fit my need for a new NAT router with PPPoE linkup to Time Fibre 500mbps.

Planning to dedicate my Asus AC68U to wifi duty soon, do you reckon the RB750Gr3 with fasttrack will be quicker than the ER-X with hardware-offloading? Both are priced pretty close.
*
I did some test before, I get about 1600mbps on RB750Gr3 & 900mbps on ER-X. Speed on RB750Gr3 seems to be fluctuates more, but the average is about 1600mbps. Tested with 1 VM as client, a router as PPPoE client, another VM as PPPoE server with encryption & compression disabled . Each VM had a dedicated LAN port allocated to it. But judging from recently updated block diagrams of RB750Gr3 indicates it only had that bandwidth throughput on some configurations.

Edit: Earlier RB750Gr3 spec sheet listed the 1640mbps, which matched my test results. But revised spec sheet listed it as 1972mbps. Not sure if it's due newer board revision or something. If anyone else had RB750Gr3, please test if you can even get more than 1800mbps in routing performance.

jio This is what Mikrotik's strods said about Fasttrack & PCC.
https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=111021#p551668

I'm still testing PCC with FT off. So far it's fine. Once I'm done, I'll reenable FT and see what happens.

Observations with FT on. Tried different classifiers all the way down to src-address.
• speedtest.tm.com.my times out
• websites loads slow most of the time

OK, I forgotten about the routing mark at the output chain. But I think you can still use fasttrack on your default WAN & only use marking on your secondary WAN instead of marking all of it. Then you change the fasttrack rule to only match those without connection mark etc.

Hi jio, thanks for your suggestion. It got me headed in the right direction.

I excluded WAN2 connections from FastTrack. That's all I did and it seems to be working. FastTrack is back on and everything seems to be ok. CPU usage down from 80% to 50% when both WANs are maxed at 30mbps each. Not sure if this is the correct way. I'll let this simmer for a few days and see if there're any probs.
*
Marking only the secondary WANs is what I normally do as packet marking will cause higher CPU load.
It is possible to use fasttrack with routing mark as long as it is marked in prerouting chain. So you can enable fasttrack on the secondary WAN as well.

CIA Exploit against RouterOS
What do you think? Cause for worry? Disable http/https services?

Don't matter much if you secure your network properly, unless it is done internally via your management network. Can't understand why there are still got plenty of idiots leaving their network appliances accessible directly externally without VPN & even worse, using the common port. That just inviting script kiddie to hammer it until they manage to login or new exploits that can bypass it altogether. This especially those leaving the management interface (ssh, http, https etc) of their router accessible directly from the internet. Yeah, as if using using cert only authentication will guarantee there is no exploit abusing some bug to bypass it. IMO, those affected by it really deserve it as they won't learn their mistake until it affected them. Oh well, maybe they really that ignorant & will only knew such possibilities if it hit mainstream news channel.

edit: oh wait... there's no wifi on the RB750Gr3... have to find another one then
*
What kind of problem you have with the RB951G? Most common issue is the power supply itself. You can pair RB750Gr3 with wAP ac, or just hAP ac by itself. There is no need for that much storage anyway unless you have a lot of logs which is recommended to have that stored via external storage. Metarouter practically useless anyway, unstable & slowdown the performance.

i'm not too sure of it either, DHCP server seems to cease leasing addresses to the client devices after running for more than 1 week. No special configuration on that side and its all done through the wizard setting. The only way to get it back working is to restart the DHCP service or the router itself. unsure.gif
*
Could be due to the bug in 6.38.x. Anyway you can try not to bridge your LAN with wifi, let them have their own subnet and DHCP server.

1 of the thing I like about Mikrotik RouterBoards is they can be powered by the common 12v 5.5mm power supply that usually used for external desktop hdd, router/modem or cctv. Most also can be powered using usb to 5.5mm 12v DC step up. Pretty handy.

need help on how to configure wAc AP + Huawei E8372 LTE modem. Prefer step by step instructions. Thanks.
*
Are you referring to wAP ac? If yes, then you may have issue coz wAP ac don't have USB port. And E8372 don't have 5GHz wifi. You may have limited throughput if the wAP ac connect to E8372 via wifi.

My advise, don't bother. If you still need the mikrotik routeros & want some features not available in routeros, just get a single board computer instead. They are affordable & powerful as well, possibly much faster than the mikrotik mips soc. If you no longer need the mikrotik router os then just flash it with 3rd party rom instead of wasting your time with metarouter crap. Bad performance & unstable. Metarouter is just a pointless performance/stability robbing feature.

Hello sifu sifu. new mikrotik user here. got it after the lowyat forumers suggested this to me biggrin.gif:D .

I got one question here, yesterday i tried rebooting my mikrotik but then it starts to constantly beep after that. hmmm.. cant connect to the internet as well. but managed to get it function again after i unplugged all the cables and put it back in..... why ahh?
*
Could be routerboot issue. Try upgrade the routerboot. If still cannot then you can try reinstall using netinstall. If that still doesn't work, then you might be unlucky and had bad nand. I had an RB2011 with such problem bad nand problem.

Time internet international bandwidth is even worse than TM, but with mikrotik and a good QoS setup, everything worked flawlessly that while before only kb/s of bandwidth was used, now both gaming and video despite not using up all the bandwidth works well.

http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/27611115

Tested from wifi with the most stressful test i could do and with high resolution bufferbloat.
*
Can you check you if there is packet loss issue with your connections (your other test results had high retransmit avg). I experienced packet loss issues before with both TM & TIME. A couple of times was due to fiber damaged, the rest probably due to their internal routing hw/link issue (only some ip range had intermittent packet loss). Even 1% packet loss will be too much especially the main use case for my company was for remote access (vpn/rdp/etc).

Below is the test from a server with 5GHz N usb wifi
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/28647776

I place little value on these benchmark results. Anyway, if you sure TM broadband will serve you better, get that instead & either keep the current TIME connection as backup/loadbalance or just terminate it.

With TM there was once a torn cable but that only caused loss of internet which was changed and fixed. The time internet isnt mine, only running my hardware but the retransmit was caused by a momentary packet loss that happens when you burden wifi. During the test i was pinging the router and it timed out only once because of wifi being suddenly loaded. Wifi has inconsistent pings when loaded so getting A+ requires not only a good WAN but also internal network.

But to get A+ on wifi is not easy. After TM was installed in another place i did a test both via wifi and wire using the provided hardware (tp link). Wire got C for both and wireless got F for both (on 5Ghz wifi AC).

My configuration is mikrotik as router, asus as wifi.
*
But your other results retransmit avg is 1 to 2 orders of magnitude higher than the worst results I get. Once in a while I do get about 1% max on 1 of the server, but the overall is always < 1%. I have no problem consistently getting A or A+ even with wifi on Time at 5 diff locations (bkt jalil, sri petaling, puchong, 2x pj). 4 is with mikrotik router and mikrotik/asus wifi. Only 1 with old belkin, but even without any qos (due to cpu limitation), it still get better results than yours. I don't have any reference data for cyberjaya except for Time business line (now marketed as enterprise), but irrelevant to your case as it has different routing than the normal home and business basic line. Home and business basic (they dropped the basic from the name) share the same routing. Funny thing is the routing from normal time broadband to one of my client (2km away with time enterprise line) is so bad that the latency (50ms instead of 5ms ping) is worse than their 2nd line from a different provider (10ms only).

hAP should be available pretty soon. hAP ac2 list price is about 60% of hAP ac. At that price point it is much better value than hEX r3. If the local seller can keep the price below 300myr, then it will be much better choice than hAP ac lite or hEX r3 (with exception of some scenario). Pity it doesn't support 48v & poe out.
