Hi guys,

Kindly advise. Check out the photo attached on existing wall. I will repaint this wall.

To smoothen it,

i) skim coat required?
ii) can just use sand paper and settle it?

Thanks.

You can try to make the surface smother by sanding down with sand paper. Hard work. But if the surface is uneven, then it will need to be skin coated.

Instead of sanding first why not use a filler scraper to remove the
coarser particles then you only sand down before layering with
emulsion.....easier procedure.

since ur repainting, can use random orbital sander (bosch GEX series) to sand down to bare cement before painting. buy lots of rough sandpaper from the big bosch dealer (eg. CSM in taman sri muda near to kesas). this will create a desert storm so better get a few N95 masks and swimming goggles too.

I will say best solution is skimcoat if you really want a smooth wall.

skim coat is very cheap, RM20++ can buy one (but not many). However, the killing part is the skill to DIY.

SKimcoat not very very expansive. Don't worry. Project price can be as low as RM3.00 per m2

What do you mean by soffit? the skim coat is only on interior vertical "wall", and pillar.

Ceiling is all plaster ceiling.

I see. Some people who don't have plaster ceiling will skim coat the soffit of slab.
Soffit of slab = the concrete above your plaster ceiling.

Ceiling skim coat will be expensive. Is really pain in the Azz, i saw my contractor plaster the ceiling, 2 days for one open area. Usually 1 day they can complete 2x the area on wall.

You have to add other additional cost like concealing new wires into the slab, hacking. That may end up more if rewiring are involved.

Yup, it could cost more if you need massive concealing new wires in the slab. Or else cover the wire with expose casing.
