i hope that you really don't start with become an o.s.its really such a waste . @zizdynll , was my same intake with me. trust us we have been onboard for our practical. its not we looking down for o.s or rating. but, its better u take your time and try to apply for alam or visit any shipping company.

many of rating i knew that joined alam with scholarship mara still not get any job.they have finished their study and take the course.do you know that they are also many that waste thousand of money and still jobless for year.

they need to get their seatime by joined ferry at langkawi. this is because new requirement from charterer. even if you joined for offshore vessel, they don't want any newbie onboard.many incident happen from new comer such as first time onboard.

Dear senior here, I need some help. I have been called for interview tomorrow at Politeknik for Diploma Kejuruteraan Perkapalan. But the problem is, I have slightly color blind. I can differentiate red and green but I can't even pass Ishihara Test for driving license. Can someone give me advice whether that I should go or not... my family said it's just a waste of time. =(

you can try and push your luck. icon_rolleyes.gif but, for what i know ,we engineer can't be colour blind.most of the alarm are red in colour, the panel board have green and red colour for working and trip identification. rclxub.gif

the ship, company and charterer can't afford to take the burden of mistake if happened when u become engineer on watch. sweat.gif

probably, you also will failed and not passed for medical check up for marine department.quite strict health screening.

Hello,

I think I will start as an OS. Just to experience work at sea before I investing my time and money on DNS.

I've done some research about how to become an OS, but I still confuse thou because some said do this first but others said do that first.

Right now they ask me to take Basic Training (BT) and Security Awareness Training (SAT). What about Tanker Familirization (TFA)? Do I have to take it?

About seaman card and book, after I took those training in regconized by JBA institution, can I apply for seaman card and book? Of course I must do a medical checkup on JBA approved clinic.

If I have done all of the above, do I have all the requirement to work as an OS?

Which is better? Send resume to company or find an agent to find it for me? My friend said to be aware of a scammer who pose as an agent. I saw an online website 'Crewell' which is a crewing agencies, can I trust that website?

I'm from Sibu Sarawak, so if any of you guys have recommendation for me to fullfill the above requirement,  it would be really helpful.

Its not that I like to ask lot of question but we have to do research about the jib before we do the job.

Thank you for any of you who helped me.

if you want to sign on onboard foreign going vessel such as tanker, containership or bulk carrier etc. you need tanker familiarization. but if you want to join offshore vessel, you need to bosiet. check whether its need petronas or shell approved. you can go for bosiet opito.quite exspensive.
