Hi all,

i need some help here. I just installed an aircon for my room, and i saw that the outdoor compressor unit have no screw to hold the compressor. Is this normal?

The compressor is kinda light and i can simply lift it with 1 hand. What i worry about its because i stay at 7th floor, the wind sometime get stronger, so there is a potential the wind will cause movement to the unit. Another thing is that after a long term of usage, the compressor may start to get vibrate and moving thus cause movement to the unit too. At the end, the outdoor unit may suicide itself from 7th floor. Does my worry sound extra or i should take precaution on it?? icon_question.gif

You better ask the installer to screw it, just to prevent it accidently move by someone...
Just insist "I want it to be screwed"...

I asked the person how come dont have screw on it, he said he installed few hundred unit like this and nth happen. Then ask back me "Why other ppl nth happen but u wan to do it?" and keep said the floor that put the outdoor unit cannot put screw, need mounting. I tell him its about safety and even the mounting also mount at floor or wall, any different on that?!

then he said "want screw can, need to add rm 30 for the screw". then at the end he said "need add rm 30 wor, u got the money mah??!!"... i was like WTF, i am the unit owner!~ so i just hang up and gonna find someone else to help me done that. biggrin.gif

Added on September 16, 2011, 7:17 pmAnd another problem is the aircond piping. My room have pre-installed aircond piping where i dont know its original from the unit or installed by the ex-owner. I always hear water dripping inside the wall whenever the aircond is on, not really sure is it the sound between water and pipe or the sound between water and wall.. rclxub.gif

He is the contractor, not the seller. The things he does:

1) drill my wall without my consent just to avoid the aircon indoor unit. Actually he only need to install the indoor unit 2cm lower then everything will be ok, no need to drill at all. When i found out, he already drill 30% of the wall edi, cant be stop. cry.gif

2) After the piping, the wall is not fully seal off, still got some uneven surface with visible concrete.

damn terrible. doh.gif the installation fees already include in the aircon sale price, free 10 feet piping and wiring. I dont know how much the seller pay him. But the contractor ask for another Rm 20 when he get here. And i just measured the piping and wiring, its only 9.5 feet. ohmy.gif

it is normal that the compressor leave it sitting on the cantilever slab like that, coz the copper pipe and power cable are strong enough to hold the compressor itself. long term no issue on safety. it is easy for your maintenance oso. btw, the air blower unit in your room is not professionally done. the air con contractor should not leave the hacked area like that. should plaster or seal off with suitable compound. The exposed condensed pipe and power cable should concealed in wall or box up. Aesthetic wise, terrible. if u want, ask them to rectify for u. or u can refer to tribunal to claim your loss and damages.
*
i see, but since the workmanship already this bad, i better ask someone to come and screw the compressor first. I worry if the piping is not fully tighten up, then it will not strong enough to hold the compressor. tongue.gif Is it mean that all the piping and the wiring should be in trunking? because current 1 he got wrap it with a black color insulator foam.

For safety reason the compressor should be secured. No question on that.
However, since this is located at high levels, fastening the base of the compressor is also going to pose a high risk.
How is the worker going to reach the base of the compressor?
Later on, when there is a need to service the compressor, how is the worker going to reach the base of the compressor to unfasten the holding down bolts?

A good installer would have install a MS bracket that is attached to the wall. Since the fastening bolts are higher up, they can be access easily from the opened window. The base of the MS brakcet will prevent any slippage and movement of the compressor.

Generally, the installation workmanship is really bad sad.gif

The cantilever is just outside of my room window and it is about 3m x 0.7m. When he install the compressor and the piping, he already climb out and reach that place from my window easily. Im sure when doing the servicing, worker also need to climb out, disconnect the piping and bring in the compressor also. with screw or without screw shouldn't different much, hope im correct. smile.gif

The MS bracket that you mentioned will surely give a more easier servicing and security purpose for this~ tongue.gif

Some seller have their own in-house installers while some contract out the installation to outsiders. Not sure if talking to the seller would help if the installation is done by others. Anyway, no harm trying.

TS should talk to the seller to get them to rectify the problems created by the installers.

If house owners do not insist on having the MS bracket to support the compressor, some installer will avoid using that as it cost them RM20-30 each. These people will try to cut cost...

Even if u dont want to drill the holes, at least use the metal bracket and cement down the bracket. In a condo, it is very likely to encounter strong winds and all.. and you certainly don't want to go to jail for negligence over a fallen compressor unit.. money can earn, life cannot replace even with 1 million insurance..

No need to fasten every single hole, two or three is enough already provided that they are stainless steel material. Oh ya, anyone ever installed a bracket made from s.steel? Always see only iron (that rusts) being used
