QUOTE(WhitE LighteR @ Dec 27 2012, 03:27 PM) Effective benefit vs AMEX is +2.5% (plus works all week not just weekends). For that +2.5% to be worth your GST, need to buy RM2000 worth of tickets =) I think I'll keep using AMEX, thanks. If worst case (only weekday purchases allowed) then +7.5%, need to buy RM667 worth of tickets to cover GST, which is more doable in a year (not for me though). |

QUOTE(WhitE LighteR @ Dec 27 2012, 04:24 PM) Well like i always tell ppl, CC is very specific on the person personal usage. In my case most of the time i max out my AMEX cashback, leaving me with only 2.5% cashback. Also your analysis is flawed because u assume a few things: I agree is specific to person personal usage.1. That Amex cashback is still available. 2. You cannot calculate 10-7.5=2.5%, hence i need to spend 2k of movie ticket Correct calculation is I only need to spend RM500 of movie ticket to get RM50 cashback vs Amex RM667 However, I disagree on your calculation. You're comparing having 10% cashback to not having anything (hence RM500). I'm comparing having 10% cashback to having 2.5% (since your amex is maxed out) cashback, so your effective gain is 7.5%, as mentioned in my last line. Put another way:- Situation one - you only have AMEX and cashback maxed out so we only consider 2.5% - this one we consider as 'normal' Situation two - you have AMEX and cashback maxed out, so you get HLB for 10%. You gain 7.5% (because if you did not take HLB, you would still have gotten the 2.5%). Hence your amount necessary to be spent is RM667 to cover the RM50 (which you would not have needed to pay without HLB). |

QUOTE(WhitE LighteR @ Dec 28 2012, 03:02 PM) "Effective gain"? I think you need to define to me what you mean by "effective gain", because as far as i know effective gain means after you minus all the cost, your final amount is known as effective gain. BUT there is no such thing as "effective gain" when comparing two product. This is not call effective gain. Effective gain for me means you must compare two scenario, not just look at one only. In this case, you already got an AMEX card, then you add on HLB. If you didn't add on HLB, will you get any gains from AMEX? Of course right? So the real gain you getting from paying from the HLB is not the 10%, but its the 7.5% difference between HLB and AMEX. QUOTE(WhitE LighteR @ Dec 28 2012, 03:02 PM) Yes, you do. Your RM500 to cover RM50 is only valid if you assume that, if you don't have HLB, you won't be covering anything (0% cashback). That is not true because you still would have AMEX. |

QUOTE(roonneo @ Jan 14 2013, 09:30 PM) Is it true that Maxis do not accept AMEX by phone payment during weekdays after office hour? And Maxis accept AMEX by phone payment during weekend? No. They accept on phone but will only process on weekday. Best way is go to MEP and pay over counter, just went the one in ss2 |
