I landed myself a Galaxy S II. Here's a few pictures that I took yesterday's evening. Seriously, the brightness and the colours are bursting with life! It certainly shines when it's in a pitch black environment (e.g: bedroom)

One quick question: Is it worth to purchase a 16GB micro SD card? The salesperson offered me RM120 Sandisk 16GB and it comes with a 5 year warranty from Sandisk. Any suggestion? Yay or nay?

just a memory card  doh.gif
after 5 years will u stick to the same phone ?it depends on ur usage of the storage, u going to need that card if u take alot of pic and store many songs inside
I might be sticking to it for a few years. On average three years if the hardware didn't let me down or gone kaput. I think I'm going to need it since I'll be trigger-happy with the camera.

buy it then ! i wish my s2 is able to last long too
My initial intention of my post was meant to get some information if the Sandisk micro SD card is worth it if I were to purchase it at RM120.

is that matte screen protector? guys i plan to buy matter SP from sungai wang as my clearn SP just has too many fingerprint. anyone knows which brand should i buy? im afraid i'll get con. my budget is less than rm30. possible?
The salesperson said it's anti finger-print material. In the picture, I got an extra sheet for free. Actually my Galaxy S II was laminated with the anti finger-print sheet. I'm not sure the one that he gave me as an extra was matte screen protector or whatsnot.

I didn't bother to see what type of sheet he gave.

I got my dna 32g class 10 with additional 65-70 bucks. So it really depends on what you need. I believe big space is a good investment. Self preference.
I think 16GB of capacity is good enough. I need to shave off a little since it's almost forth quarter of year 2011 and I need to cave in for my indulgence in gaming as well (MGS HD Collection, FIFA 2012, ICO, Ace Combat, Gears of War 3...so on and so forth).

Class 10 has better read/write capability than a Class 4, right? The salesperson did explain to me but it was not being remembered. LOLZ!

Edit: One more thing, how do you normally turn data on/off? Do you go into settings>wireless bla bla bla and tick data packet OR use a widget.
Go to SETTINGS-WIRELESS & NETWORK-MOBILE NETWORKS-(Untick the box) USE PACKET DATA + (Untick the box) DATA ROAMING

You can fiddle the settings. Maybe you can opt for MACRO SHOT? There's plethora settings when it comes to camera on the Galaxy S II. Anyway, you need some time to get used to it and the settings will come in handy as time goes by. I'm also experimenting here and there with the mobile at home...

There is a faster way.

Click on your screen lock button for 2 sec, you can activate/deactivate the data network there.
Nice! I learnt something new today! Thanks for the heads up. SCREEN LOCK-HOLD 2 SECONDS. Alright!

what are the differences between the notifications ringtone in message setting and an the normal setting -> sounds -> notification ringtone? are there any differences?
I had the same question too! After fiddling it for a while, I think it's the same. I tried changing my ringtones but whenever I click, there's only two options:

One: Android system
Two: Zedge (I downloaded this from the Market)

Is it possible to add another in because I got "Download Music" as another source of ringtones and I must say it's much better than Zedge (my humble opinion that is).

To add your own downloaded music as notification/ringtone sound,

go to My Files>media>audio>create a folder called 'notifications' or 'ringtones' and place the downloaded songs into these folders, the next time you wanna change the sounds, the choice will popup when you choose Android/System
You've been very helpful but as silly as it sounds, may I know where I can get access to the "My Files"? It is under SETTING?

"my files" is the default file manager provided. check it from your apps drawer (menu). or else u can use any other file manager like astro file manager, es file manager etc.
You are making me sweating in cold. I'll get back once I try it out. I click on the icon MUSIC DOWNLOAD---Click on LIBRARY---Click FOLDERS---It came out /mnt/sdcard/musicdownload (15)

I think I got about 15 ringtones in there.

this ringtone Q reminds me of anything thing i find puzzling with the sgs2 audio settings... it seems to have so many options...
i think there are like 4 diff settings:
* incoming
* media
* system
* notification

it gets confusing when we go into silent mode. i have noticed that silent mode does not mute media. when you launch games and movies, the audio will be at the volume you had set. and when you launch the media, your silent mode is turned off (meaning no longer in silent mode). it can get pretty confusing... heh heh...
I got to agree wholeheartedly with you. I mean why can't they bloody arrange it in a simple manner that all media/sound for each and everything in a single tab or something.

It wouldn't take a rocket scientist to do so. I mean heck it, they designed and came out with a great phone but when it comes to user friendliness...it's a bit of a dismay.

Anyway, I'll give it a try nonetheless. Every day is a learning day.

I din mean to insult you or something, i just burst into laughter like I saw somebody slipped in front of me.  biggrin.gif

Anyway, at your home page, just click applications at the bottom right corner, and start flipping, i am sure u will see an app called MyFiles, click on it!

after clicking on it, scroll down and select media, then click on audio

when you're in the /sdcard/media/audio folder, click on the menu button and click create folder

name it as "notifications"

once you're done, go to the music that you have just downloaded, long press on it and click move and select the folder that you have just created. thats it and it will be appearing on your selection next time!

is that clear, and simple enough?  drool.gif
Let's just say you are GREAT! Done it on my third attempt! Still not really familiar with the folder and stuff but I just follow what you've written there and I'm done! Thanks!

No worries. I know you are not insulting or anything. After all, I'm sure we'll have some laughs in here as people can ask/answer in awkward ways.

OK.

1. click on applications (it's the bottom left blue square icon assuming you're using the default Touchwiz)
2. scroll around all the apps until you find a yellow folder icon with the tag My Files
3. scroll down till you find the folder 'media'
4. click on 'audio'
5. click create folder and name them either 'notifications' or 'ringtones'
6. go back to My Files and scroll till you find the folder external_sd
7. find your music file and long press, choose to copy or move, and go to those folders you created and paste them there.

ok?
Got it! Thanks! I found a few handy ones in this thread. Thanks everyone!

Hi everyone! For sharing purpose...

I broke out my contactless IR thermometer and went outside into the midday sun on my patio and set the phone down. Overheating and clamping down the display brightness doesn’t take long in this climate, about 5–10 minutes will do it. At around 115F (~45C) surface display temperature you’ll get clamped to 75% maximum until temperature drops down. I actually subjectively don’t think SGS2 is as prone to overheating as the Charge or Infuse.

Some other people have reported SGS2 crashing or encountering a thermal shutoff after a certain point, so I braved the heat and stayed outside even longer using the device until it hit well over 140F (60C) and still no system shutdown or overheating happened. That’s not to say it isn’t possible, as the SGS2 clearly does have thermal monitoring, for example the following lines from dmesg suggest some thermal monitoring going on, though I definitely crossed these boundaries to no ill effects:

<6>[ 0.047638] thr_low: 83, thr_high: 98 warn_low: 97 c warn_high 106
<6>[ 0.047715] tq0_signal_handle_init
<6>[ 0.047751] tmu_initialize: te_temp = 0x00000048, low 8bit = 72,

high 24 bit = 0

Morning everyone...Here's my question for today.

Under APPLICATION---there's an icon CLOCK. Inside, there's Alarm, World Clock, Stopwatch and Timer.

My concern: ALARM
I created an alarm for my daily wake ups and I set it at 7.50am. Alarm repeat is set from Monday to Sunday (every day).

Under alarm type: I set MELODY (not many options to choose)

Volume: Hell yeah! It's a full blast!

Under Advanced setting---Alarm tone---I click Go to My files---I choose my own ringtone as my alarm

I click SAVE after setting and lo and behold, this morning, it churning out a low default ringtone as alarm. (WTF??!! It's really soft and I nearly couldn't get up this morning)

Anyone can help me with this alarm issue? I'm very dependent on this alarm to get me up in the morning.

Appreciate everyone's help.

Smart Alarm? Is it an application? Thanks but no thank you as I'm not interested in buying a clock from the night market. It's years that I've utilise my mobile as my alarm "clock".

I'm not sure. I chose my personal ringtone and it came out some other ringtone as alarm. I do not know what sound/music is that but it's sounded like bell or something. I chose A, it came out B.

The name is "smartphone" but when it comes to simple setting for an alarm...Sigh.

hmm. weird. try reset ur alarm again, or go market download "tone picker", which is way more convenient in selecting the ringtones for alarms, msg, etc. u sure the tone is not corrupted? laugh.gif
I don't think it's corrupted because it let me play a "preview" of the song before I set it. I'm sure it's workable. It's already the second time...

Thanks for the recommendation of "Tone Picker". I thought of downloading another app for my current alarm. Twice the disappointment I had.

Added on September 20, 2011, 10:24 amI've added another time slot as my alarm at 10.30am. Let's see if it is ringing the default tone or the one that I've chosen.

There's this lists under Alarm Type: MELODY, VIBRATION, VIBRATION AND MELODY & BRIEFING.

What the heck is briefing means? Anyway, I already set it as MELODY. Let's see how it goes in a couple of minutes.

Added on September 20, 2011, 10:29 amGod damn it! It came the same default ringtone as my alarm.

Noted. Experiment #2 on its way. Let me change to another ringtone as my alarm tone. Be right back.
