hi guys,

i just got my SGS2 yesterday (benny, kindly update me on the user list?) and the firmware is 2.3.3 KF1

i have been trying to google and i'm going crazy... seems like the only way to flash it to 2.3.4 is via Kies or by rooting. I'm not wanting to root it yet, but the problem is Kies is not compatible with my Lion Mac OSX.

Tapping on software Update in my settings menu (on the phone) states "no update available"

1 more issue with my phone is the yellowish tint on the left side of the screen. only visible when on low brightness, but very annoying. it's just a slight tint but still damn freaking annoying.

any help guys?

here's a screnshot of my current firmware...

if you feel the yellow tint is annoying.. go back to the shop and ask for exchange within 7days from the purchase date.
as for updating to 2.3.4... not necessary need to root your phone.. you can update it by using odin as the is still no official 2.3.4 firmware for malaysia set. please refer to page 1 for more info on how to upgrade by using odin....

hi thanks for the quick reply.

is the yellowish tint a prevalent problem? as in, is it true that most sets have this problem?

ic... so it's more like a firmware related issue?

coz i've read many posts (googled) where people get exchanges but still there, etc etc. the funny thing is on brighter settings, there's no yellow tint at all.

if i update via Odin, which country's firmware is best for us?

sorry, i'm quite new to the galaxy s world... was using the cheapo ZTE Blade before this (which i find rooting was easier and ess complicated!) haha

i think there is another software that works like odin for mac available... someone from here mentioned it before..maybe you could ask around.
*
Yeah it's heimdall. Abit more complicated coz have to extract the entire Tar file and go from there... Wish me luck!

Virtualbox, install XP, then u can flash ur phone from the XP VM.....
*
Bro read that virtualbox will not work also due to phone not recognised...

Think I'll just get an old windows laptop to do it.I've one here doing nothing

Wonder if the yellow tint will go away after upgrading firmware

guys have u ever encountered this issue?

a green line on camera screen when taking incandescent lighting photos... not all the time, but mostly when u aim at brightly lit areas...

i'll show u 2 examples, one with, and one without... notice the left top corner...

tried googling but can't find anything bt this...

without...

with...

another thing... i notice that when the screen has colour gradients (dark to light, or vice versa) the gradient isn't as smooth on other screens i've seen... i'm a newbie when it comes to AMOLED screens so i don't know if this is normal?

and of course the yellowish tint thing...

hmm maybe i should go back to SenQ and see if i can exchange... i'm just worried the new set will also have the same kind of problems...

the gradient cannot be avoided, because the phone runs on 16-bit colour space........if you put your comp into 16-bit colour mode also it will have the banding
*
So how about the yellow tint and the green thing on the camera?

Those look like hot/ bright pixels in the camera sensor....try taking a black picture with no light whatsoever and try taking another picture of something very bright, like the sky on a sunny day.

It should be obvious in dark pictures only I think.....DSLR owner here who is happy not to face such problems
As for the yellow tint, is it disappears at brighter levels, then don't need to worry. There is no guarantee that they will replace your screen.....even if they do, there is no guarantee that it would be any better than your previous one
*
Doesn't look like hot pixels coz it appears on the view finder but only when taking in those conditions

Yea it disappears. Not keen to go change a unit and end up with the same defect but the camera problem is annoying

Have you tried updating your camera firmware? run the apk and it will auto update and then you have to restart your phone...then try taking the picture again

updated, same problem but i noticed something... it only happens when white balance is in incandescent OR when the Auto white balance tries to adjust to incandescent lighting... so it might be a software issue yet again. no such problem with ALL the other WB options or in any other lighting conditions...

Can I perform a check on the yellow tint? I didn't see any problem on my Galaxy S II. Could you tell me a little?
*
I just updated my SGS2 to KI3 (2.3.5) via Odin.

had to reinstall XP on my 6 year old laptop, thank god it's still working...

and guess what? the previous yellow tint on the left side of my screen (most obvious in low brightness) is GONE!

weird thing is market is back to the old market, and although I installed a non-wipe version, everything was wiped...
and somehow google sync did not restore my settings and apps... weird
how do i update market to the latest anyway?

rooted with CF-root yesterday... tried playing with chainfire 3d and compared samurai THD with normal samurai... not alot of difference... hmmm

maybe my battery is still new and the new 2.3.5 firmware was just flashed into it... but battery drained from 100 - 97 within an hour. minimal browsing (~3 minutes) and 3 text messages only...

hey guys,

i disable auto sync on my phone coz i hate it when it pushes email to me ALL the time... is there a set interval I can make it fetch the emails?

another thing is I've set FB to refresh once per hour, but notifications are still pushed to me instantly... why's that?

having said that, does this drain battery SIGNIFICANTLY or it's just slightly higher than usual?

finally, if i sign in to skype or GTalk, do these programs run in the background if i don't sign out? that should cause major battery drain right?

I just want the phone to last me from 7am to 10pm, i don't need 2-3 days battery life actually... so what kind of settings do u guys use?

hey guys, i realized something weird... sometimes if i wanna sideload an apk file (like bobd3clock or mario wallpaper) but if the file is shared on Filesonic or Megaupload, etc, how come Dolphin HD browser or stock browser won't download it?? instead, it completes the download within seconds, and a 20-100bytes .htm file is downloaded instead. very annoying...

however, i tried with Firefox browser and it downloaded fine..

is this some kind of restriction or is there something i need to do before I can download any kind of files? I haven't tried ROM zip files yet but last time i could download ROMs directly (except from filesonic) on my ZTE Blade

any help is really appreciated. google searches didn't help much to explain the situation
