Official vs Custom Rom,
which is the best?
*
Self Cooked ROM is the best tongue.gif

wanna ask some question here , dont flame me if it is asked few time ago.
been following awhile , but too many roms u guys use , so i decide to download , Batista70 , Cognition and VillainROM to try.

may i ask if the roms is for KH3 so i need to flash to KH3 before i flash the custom roms ?
and which kernel u guys recommend for which roms ?  biggrin.gif

Thanks  whistling.gif
*
No need coz it will replace the whole system files with the new one unless instructed by the dev.

For the kernel, it is a bit subjective, everyone has it own favorite which depends on own usage pattern and preferences. Try kernel supplied with the ROM first as the benchmark then flash others to judge which is the best for you.

OIC, strikeout supercurio, all custom ROMs are rooted already.

For CWM, use CF-Root kernel. Much easier.

hey guys, just got an s2 awhile ago, like literally. was wondering if it was possible to get popular games / apps without buying or rooting? not too sure about rooting since i'm not a windows person and as far as i'm concerned, there's not many safe ways to root with a mac. would be glad if i could get swift replies, thanks!

pls dont flame me smile.gif
*
Yes, possible but we won't discuss it (if you meant those illegal apps) here and you have to find it yourself. And no need rooting to just install apps. This is android not IOS. Don't get yourself confuse.

Why is everyone is asking this kind of "rooting" question here. Are they being advised by Apple guru????

How to install busy box and cwm..i think it should come when we rooted right? ive change to litening custom rom and its rooted by default..but cwm and busybox is not included..can help? sad.gif
*
CWM you need to access at booting stage. CWM Manager apps is installed by default with CF-Root kernel. Not available for other kernel except the dev included it in the ROM. If your Superuser app is working fine, then your busybox was installed correctly.

Low Yat search function is better than XDA and yet some people can't use it wisely to find the answers.

I got to agree wholeheartedly with you. I mean why can't they bloody arrange it in a simple manner that all media/sound for each and everything in a single tab or something.

It wouldn't take a rocket scientist to do so. I mean heck it, they designed and came out with a great phone but when it comes to user friendliness...it's a bit of a dismay.

Anyway, I'll give it a try nonetheless. Every day is a learning day.
*
If you did not like to create nested folders like /sdcard/media/audio/xxxx

You can create like these examples.

/sdcard/Notifications or /sdcard/Ringtones

If you wanted it to be inside micro sdcard, change the path above accordingly like

/sdcard/external_sd/Notifications

Then reboot the phone so it will scan the changes.

Shortcut method to force scanning... create a dummy file inside the folder then delete it. Must use Myfiles app.

guys...need some advice...is it possible to flash to a different custom rom from my present custom rom without having to flash to a stock rom...because in the xda forum they told to flash to stock rom before flashing to a different custom rom...that means either way i have to wipe my data sad.gif..so basically its bad news sad.gif
*
Update ROM is mostly ok without wipe, upgrade ROM is recommended to wipe especially if Android version changed.

Guys quick q,at network i can choose auto gsm n 3G only which is best a?i got data plan btw
*
Set to auto for better coverage. If you set to 3G only, in area where there is no 3G coverage, you phone will not register to the network.

Set to GSM only if you wanted to save the battery.

anyone can teach me how to extract theme icon ?
and put it into another theme ? biggrin.gif
*
There is a quick way to do it.

All the files are inside xxxx.apk/res/drawable especially in drawable-hdpi

Use 7zip program. Do not extract the file if possible especially the xxx.9.png else you may break the metadata of the file.

Theme files are inside /system/framework/framework-res.apk and /system/app/SystemUI.apk, some files may be inside /system/framework/twframework-res.apk for Samsung apps.

The best method.... extract both folders from your phone file and the theme file. Use this as comparison only. After you managed to identify the files, then use 7zip (u need to open two instances) and drag it over.

Some themer do modified .xml file especially the 1% battery status and progress bar. This requires decompiling and recompiling the framework if you're going to port it to another version of ROM.

This is a simple guide and I'm not responsible if your phone boot loop or the images are not sizing properly...

Always create a backup CWM flash able framework and save it in the internal SD first before flashing the mod one. nod.gif

I have one pixel on top right corner, removed SP it's gone. Put a new SP it came back but lower left of the screen. Moral of the story, sometimes the SP can create a fake dead pixel. I rest my case if you did not apply any SP smile.gif

*
Yes, you can port some of the icons and themes to other ROM. Up to what extent? coz some may need to decompile the apk.

Erm i dont really get what u mean. What i want to do is to install jkay theme settings for the shorcuts on the lockscreen, but i dont want my status bar icons to change to another theme, as i need to flash a theme to get jkay to work.
*
If that the case, get JKay theme file first then change the icons. Much easier.
