hmm... i always thought the Noise Filter option was dependent/related to Noise Reduction. as in if Noise Reduction is OFF then the Noise Filter option would be ignored.
guess i misunderstood it all this while ... QUOTE(sado.oi @ Apr 12 2012, 08:40 AM) |

this is currently the most detailed info found in official source about the 2 settings (it's from FAQ related to E-PL1 but should be relevant to PEN cameras)
QUOTE The NOISE FILTER function is found in the menu. It has four options: OFF, LOW, STANDARD and HIGH. The majority of digital cameras have a default noise filter that is always on. Some photographers feel that this reduces detail, so Olympus has included the option to not use a noise filter at all. there is no mention whether the options applies to RAW, JPG or RAW+JPG though ...If NOISE FILTER is set to OFF, it is recommended to set the SHARPNESS setting to –2. If SHARPNESS is set to 0 it may exaggerate the noise when no noise filtering is being applied. The NOISE REDUCTION function can also be enabled from the menu. After the first exposure, the camera makes a second exposure of equal length with the shutter closed. It then, in effect, overlays the two images, finds the hot pixels in the second image (essentially, any pixels that aren't black) and deletes the corresponding pixels from the first image. This doubles the shooting time. If the first exposure is 12 minutes 30 seconds, the second, black exposure will also be 12 minutes 30 seconds for a total exposure time of 25 minutes. QUOTE(sado.oi @ Apr 12 2012, 11:57 AM) Ya I at first had the same thought, but after fiddling with the settings on my ep-2 I found out that the noise filter is always active, while the noise reduction only kick in after an imaged was captured. Do correct me if i was wrong thou This post has been edited by yangkuo: Apr 12 2012, 01:21 PM |

i have a question about Manual Focus usage on E-P3. lens in use (eg m.zuiko 17mm 2.8 or 45mm 1.8) which has "focus-by-wire" according to what i've read
is it a MUST for me to set the option for MF in camera menu 1st bfor using (turning) the manual focus ring ? is it damaging to turn or move the focus ring if camera is in AF mode? or would it just not have any effect in terms of focusing? there is a S-AF + MF mode... i'm wondering if that means we can auto focus AND immediately turn focus ring to do adjustment with manual focus too. thanks for the answer. just wanted to ensure i won't be destroying the lens by simply turning the focus ring
btw, the S-AF + MF explanation seems to be like how i imagined it but then .. i was also assuming you could just turn the focus ring without auto-focusing 1st ! it's less likely we would auto-focus and yet do MF adjustments ... unless full MF control is really sluggish or the AF is not accurate, imho. QUOTE(sadaniel @ Apr 24 2012, 03:19 PM) yup both lens use focus-by-wire and u have to turn on MF in order to activate the manual focus ring. turning the focus ring while in AF should be no issue as it does not do anything to the electronics since its disable. This post has been edited by yangkuo: Apr 24 2012, 03:28 PMhowever when set to S-AF + MF, u can let the camera autofocus on the subject first, while still holding the shutter half-way, fine tune ur focus using the focus ring. |

anyone here using 3rd party BLS-1 battery for the Olympus Pen ?
everything works great but am having a little problem removing the battery from camera compartment. after pushing the spring up, battery jumps out only a little and feels a little "stuck" at the sides when u attempt to pull it. to be fair, it's also not exactly super smooth removing the original battery but at least there's no feeling of that little friction against the sides. wondering if it's my E-P3 or just the battery ... |

i completely get what you mean and understand that feeling bcos that's exactly how i felt when i saw and handled the EM-5 the first time.
all along before that i just "believed" that silver body was the only logical choice... QUOTE(hellfire8888 @ May 9 2012, 09:13 PM) QUOTE(hellfire8888 @ May 9 2012, 09:20 PM) |

sorry this may not be the most appropriate thread to ask but i thought perhaps since there's so many olympus users in here ...
does anyone have any idea how much the Olympus ME-1 (Eyepiece Magnifier) would currently cost? or is it still available in stores? This post has been edited by yangkuo: May 15 2012, 10:44 AM |
