Guys, a bit off topic but I'm using a Lumix GF3, so yeah. biggrin.gif

For video/filmmaking, what lens is suitable? Thinking of doing a travelogue/walk-with-me type of videos.

On topic, anybody using DSLR's lenses fitted with adapter?
I still keep my Nikkor 50mm f1.4 and thinking of fitting it on my GF3.

Also, what do you guys think of this lens?
Optomax 135mm f2.8

Thanks!

i think if budget permit, you can get the 14-140mm which is optimised for HD video recording. Due to its focal lenght, its a perfect travel companion smile.gif

Perhaps next time when I decide to splurge for video/filmmaking. But when that comes, I might aswell splurge on a real video cam + accessories.

For now, its budget(frugal) filmmaking.
*
i see, in that case then any lens will do depending on your preferred focal length. I did tested in HD mode, its still very nice, anyway i`m not a video taker so i think expectation was not high haha

I was abit clueless about which lens when I posted the question. Few mins after that, I am pretty sure I need a wide lens LOL. Suitable for my "walk-with-me" project.

Now having problem setting up my stabilizer with the 14mm. Too light. Managed to get it right with the 14-42mm though.
*
ahh i see, 1 of it is the weight like u said, and the 14-42 does have its build in OIS. i guess it is hard to see the video quality between the both tho? so i think u are happy with ur 14-42mm now rclxms.gif

whao u called that a cheap lense? hahaha yeah maybe for a Leica quality, yes its cheap haha...
for me the focusing sound is silent, just that when the shutter id fired, its more "harsh" compared to my other lense, but its ok to me, the sound is like a music tongue.gif

in my opinion, you must go and view the real thing yourself and decide which is better for you. we are familiar with photography and knows what it can do, so go touch and feel it, i guess every1 will have their decision fter viewing it icon_rolleyes.gif

Dear all,

I just got my EP3 today! And when i shake my 14-42mm lens, i heard some sound. Like the screw inside got loose. You get what i mean?

What should i do. =(
*
it is alright if you read the manual, not too loud and "loose" of cos. thats the OIS mechanism if not mistaken. Dont worry if your lens works well.

If indoor, wan to take motion item, increase shutter speed cause picture dark......so wat should I do? Just start learn photography
*
u mean motion item you want to take it in freeze mode right? you have no choice but to increase ISO.
Another more advance technique is to pan the object (if possible) with slower shutter speed. You will get a very dramatic effect.

If you want motion blur to show that the object is moving, even simpler, slower your shutter speed. if your hand unable to stable, just use tripod or put at a steady object.

Thanks nism!
Just got a epl3 .these two day try to play around and ad bout photography. Totally newbie.
I only have the 14-42lense. If wan to take insect etc.. The lense can do the job well or I need to get other lense?the 40-150 mm lense mainly is for wat?

Added on May 20, 2012, 5:00 pmRain drop photo, wat setting or lense we need for a clear drop picture?
*
with the 14-42mm lense, you cant really take small insect picture very close. It has a minimal focusing distance, for your case 0.25m (at 14-19mm of focal length) / 0.3m (except 20-42mm of focal length) is the closest your lense can focus on. sorry if its too technical but its not hard actually, means if you hold your cam closer than the 0.25m, your cam not able to focus. so you can try this action by shooting a small object first, treating it as an insect with same size. and see if you are satisfied with the range. you can always crop the picture if you dont mind compromising the whole picture quality just to publish at web. If you mind, you got no choice but to get a pure macro lense smile.gif

the 40-150mm lense is mainly for zooming far, its not practical in a tight space, very hard to compose a picture. this lens is good if you were to take motorsports, animals far ahead like birds, or even portrait to get a decent bokeh (background blur) but your subject must be standing a bit far from you smile.gif

rain drop, you can take with any lense. its about setting your camera. for a starting, i recommend you set your shutter speed to as high as possible to freeze the rain drop. of cos it must not be too high depending on the available light, else your picture will be dark. try and you will learn smile.gif

QUOTE(Valentino46 @ May 21 2012, 01:15 AM)
i think u have to read my post twice or more before u bring up your point
image quality, yeah 1 day 4/3 size sensor can be as noise free and as clear as full frame but thats not my concern as i don't pixel peep,my point is that they can't have the same subject isolation power as do larger sensor, that is not something technology can overcome because it is pure physic
for instance,i find m4/3 maximum bokeh ability with their kit lens at 42mm f5.6 is a bit lacking, even less so or just comparable to my xz-1 at 112mm f2.5,but i find adequate separating power with aps-c camera with their kit lens at 55mm f5.6, this means that i might be able to compose acceptable portrait shot with aps-c kit lens at a pinch

yes i know m4/3 consortium has create more lens than other mirrorless,it doesn't take a gadget nerd to know that, but i not contented with their any of their offering just yet, even widest aperture ie the 45mm f1.8 has just the same isolating power as aps-c sensor 50mm f3.2,and the upcoming 75mm f1.8 will be too long for my liking,150mm equiv dude.....and from the manufacturer statement they will always consider form over factor, meaning it will take a long time for them (if ever)to release lens with aperture greater than f1.8 which will compensate the sensor size disadvantage.

but i still wish to own the om-d because i think it looks great, the jpeg engine is fantastic (i don't shoot raw to pixel peep),and if anybody can show me that 45mm f1.8 is adequate to create lovely portrait,i might still gravitate towards om-d,thats the real point i'm posting here
*
there is still another option, the Leica 25mm f1.4 the bokeh is lovely. Even my prof photographer friend give it a high rating.

it's like my multipurpose lense...
bcoz i hate the normal zoom that goes from 24mm to 70mm....
dun ask me why...i dunno...
but i just dun like standard FOV...
i prefer short tele's FOV... biggrin.gif

poolcarpet: In my opinion, i recons the 20mm too as its a superb lens, but 14mm is greater for general usage like taking group picture or in a narrow area since you mention indoor. but then having f1.7 is a big plus indoor. go for GF1 is you like buttons, else GF3 if you like small but then GF3 is having mono mic and no hotshoe. depends on your own taste then smile.gif

QUOTE(poolcarpet @ May 22 2012, 02:32 PM)
thanks - so the kit lens 14-42mm is good enough even for low light? sorry i may be a noob but i noticed for kit lens it's F3.5.... thought the 20mm F/1.7 would be much better for indoor... anyone here using the kit lens 14-42mm and able to get nice indoor shots without flash?
*
erm basically nope, f3.5 only @ 14mm, so for indoor its not really good unless u compensate with higher ISO. In this case the GF3 is better than GF1 noise handling. For my GF2, i go max up to 800 ISO indoor if no choice, still very acceptable for me. if dark places like cafe with minimal light, of cos the f1.7 have a big big advantage hehe. but i thought you wanted small as the 14-42mm is 2 big for u?
