based on your 2 options. Go for Exitway.
People will complain about these 2 brands coz we are all jantan. All lotsa ego and wanna show off.
But Exitway and XDS have been here for quite sometime. Most probably their frames ALSO made by Giant or Merida.
I believe these frames are equivalent to Fuji, Merida, Giant, Kona, Raleigh and many more...
It is the brand that differenciate them.

So, the choice is very much up to you. If you want a bike with good component, you can always go for these 2. I'd choose XDS I guess. (coz name not so obvious)
If you don't mind being "looked" at using a lower end range bike... by all means go ahead. These bikes should be more than good enough for you to go through all jamborees, ride around taman, kiara, FRIM and everywhere else.

Pls la. Just because your bike is meant for display purpose, doesn't mean everyone need a house deco too.

Id go for Exitway too...components are better....as budget is always a concern...start with what you are capable of...try out MTB..if you like the experience...u get into the craze...then you can always upgrade...the challenge for that is selling the Exitway frame...like car...the bikes got second hand value also ..certain brand difficult to sell....unless you dont mind keeping it for your partner etc...

For myself I dont mind going for second hand ...but that needs careful research and BBS surfing ...heheh

Price not too sure coz no shop in Malaysia selling em or I didn't find hard enuff...

It doesnt matter.

I'd prefer 9 speed as well if the teeth are same.

I say go for XDS with the shimano SLX 10 speed,or if you're SRAM fans then go for the X9.Im using the SRAM X9 2x10 set too and i can say i'm happy with it and the shifting is marvellous and smooth.The frame can change when you feel you need a better,light weight / full suspension frame.That's my opinion

And at that time, Exitway didnt have high end bike but only bangla bike.
