Speaking as an IT student here, there are definitely goods and bads here, listed below:
Pros - IT building cold as Arctic - Some IT lecturers are pretty good at explaining, and funny too. - Cheaper than other private uni - Nothing to distract you from studies Cons - Dealing with management peoples is like playing a "station game and merry-go-round" hybrid, u run here and there just to get a simple thing done. No car = GG become sweatman - IT course not particularly stellar. IMO not enough practical. - 3 Sems in a year. Very little holidays : 14 weeks study, 2 weeks exam, 2 weeks holiday. Wash rinse repeat. - No Girls - Expensive, repetitive and lousy food within campus, and there's no alternative within walking distance of campus. ** u sure wanna study IT? have u considered Computer Science? Here UNITEN separates them into 2 different courses. For me i feel that CS students more outgoing... |

QUOTE(demolationz @ Mar 27 2012, 06:42 PM) It's a myth. Each has their own share of girls i go COE foodcourt see many COE girls too, not that chronically-deprived of girls. IT - Less students, more girls Engineering - More students, less girls # Do the math, and the probability is more or less the same |

QUOTE(laszlo @ May 8 2012, 11:49 PM) Thinking of going for the open day this 12th May. How is the Computer Science Software Engineering course over here, good? Would be starting from the foundation though if I were to enroll. U can check back previous pages that i've posted. In case u too lazy to do so... here i post again~ Software.Eng here average only. They'll teach programming languages such as C, python, Visual Basic and Java. The rest you have to explore by urself. What i dont like here is that there are too little practical here (lab/tutorial), too much focus on theories and memorizing. In exams, they'd make it very easy (so those who are weak can score). Plus, for IT/CS courses, they have included a lot of crap subjects in it, like moral u have to take once in Foundation, then another 3 times in Degree. ---outside of academic--- security - gotta carry ur computer with you all the time, since apartment robbery is rampant. curriculum - Not compulsory. Very little active clubs, and activities are scarce. Not sure about other unis, but thats my general perception. girls - Not many girls in here. But CS/IT is better than engineering, numbers-wise. ---The Goods--- Well, it's cheaper than other private unis. The graduates have got a good reputation coming out of UNITEN. No distractions like shopping malls/clubs next to it so u can study 24/7. Free LAN DotA every night at apartment. |
