Looks like Dell Singapore is a tad cheaper.
Don't know about the other models but I was looking at Dell 14z.

Hi Sifus

Are mSATA & SSD the same thing or is it differently?
Like this; 24GB mSATA & 32GB mSATA.

This speeds up the boot time right?
Or are they 2 different things?

I notice that the high end ultrabooks use SSD and the lower specs use a mSATA.

mSATA is the form factor.
SSD is the thing it self.
SSD can have the regular 2.5'' size or the mSATA size.

lower specs use mSATA SSD since it need to combine with the HDD. Since normally those notebook only have one 2.5'' SATA slot and 1 mSATA slot.

The mSATA and SSD will mean that the laptop will have a faster boot up time right?
For example, these models;

[Ultrabook]S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2099[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB

[Ultrabook]S46CA-WX021R, i3-2317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM1799[2.1kg], W7HB, 2GB

Better pick a standard notebook rather than ultrabooks (too slim- poor cooling)
14"
Acer V3-471G-53214G75, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM2099[2.3kg], 2GB, 750GB W7HP, 3 years warranty
Asus A45Vm-VX113v, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M (2GB)@RM2099[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP
Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm)
Dell Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm); backlit keyboard optional
HP Pavilion G4-1302ax, AMD A8-3520M + AMD HD7450M@RM1899, 4GB, 640GB(5400rpm), W7HP
Lenovo Z480, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1999, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP, colors: grey/red/blue
Toshiba Satellite L840-1024X, i3-2370M + AMD HD7670M@RM1849[2.12kg], 2GB, 640GB, W7HP

Just go and ask around at the larger stores in Lowyat Plaza, and remember to bargain.
Just get the laptop from the store that offers the best price; and make sure that the new laptop is taken out of a completely sealed box (not used unit) nod.gif

Yes, faster boottime compared with the pure HDD model.

Thanks.

How is mSATA compared to normal ones (without mSATA and SSD)?
Cause I notice that there is no model in the RM2-2.5k with SSD.
And I also notice that for this price range, there is no laptop with backlit keyboard.

But for me, who only use the laptop for surfing, work (gmail), light youtube, it doesn't really heat up right?
So it shouldn't really matter if I get an ultrabook since it won't get hot since I don't stress the machine.
Correct me if Im wrong.

The Asus A45, K46, S46 doesn't come with a backlit keyboard and SSD (fast boot up time) right?

The mSATA in those unit are used for caching, the data mainly will still being stored in the HDD.
The main point for those 24GB/32GB mSATA is to drive the price down, else you would only have >RM 3K ultrabook since the equipped with >128GB SSD

Backlit there is, but the normal notebook, like Vostro 3460, Inspiron 14R...
