But you should see how both perform and how they handle cooling. Best to get the cooler one.

Sager seems to be the most affordable. Once it goes to other custom resellers, they'll slap on additional costs and doohickeys. Just like Origin and Maingear.
But you should see how both perform and how they handle cooling. Best to get the cooler one. |

QUOTE(markypcs @ Apr 29 2012, 07:59 PM) Lol. If can still find, U46SV, if not just get a the new IB equipped U-series.She doesn't know anything about laptops, she was considering MBP but I said with your budget, you can get more for a cheaper price. 1. Asus 2. $1,000 AUD 3. Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2. Bring to uni so maybe good battery life. No heat issues like my Asus A42Jv (98 degrees max), can cook egg. 4. 14" |

QUOTE(markypcs @ Apr 29 2012, 09:03 PM) Mm, what so good about the U46SV? Might as well buy the newer series with Ivy Bridge, why did you suggest to opt for the older U46SV? Let's see, superb battery life, a refreshing design change from regular Asus notebooks, pretty decent performance, slimmer and relatively lighter than most other 14" notebooks. To be honest, Ivy Bridge is not something that brings much improvement over Sandy Bridge. Performance advantage is slight and power saved is still negligible. |

QUOTE(markypcs @ Apr 29 2012, 09:13 PM) So the difference between the newer Asus U-series and the current U46SV is the processor? It is using the GT540M which is < GT630M (correct me if I'm wrong, read it somewhere).. And then there's the 7970 and GT650M in the market. Is it worth getting the U46SV now when there are other better laptops that are more value for money in the market? It will be the processor and perhaps the graphics which we have yet to confirm. For now, we know it will most likely be a dual core Ivy Bridge processor coupled with an Nvidia GT620M, which performance wise wouldn't be too different from the U46SV. The GT630M is basically an overclocked and rebadged GT540M. Sure there might be the HD7970M and GT650M, but Asus isn't going to put those into their slim and light division. I wouldn't really count on having long battery lives with those GPUs as well. Added on April 29, 2012, 9:14 pmSorry for the bombardment of questions. Want to get the best value for my gf. So, I wouldn't say that the U46SV is bad value for money, in fact by merit of it's battery life/performance ratio would justify its value quite well. Alternatively, you can get my own U41SV for your girlfriend. Some places are selling it for a measly RM2000 which is a total steal. |

QUOTE(markypcs @ Apr 29 2012, 09:31 PM) That's true. 10 hour battery life is killer. Well, their testing of games is quite taxing because they turn up anti-aliasing. In the notebookcheck review of the U46SV, they stated that most games pushes the GT540M to its limit (Skyrim/BF3). Weird cos my A42Jv can run Skyrim just fine only with a 100 degrees Celsius temperature. Will consider this. What's the diff between yours and the U46SV? What do you think of the upcoming Lenovo Ideapad Y480? IB + GT640M maybe GT650M in the future. Also similar to the Asus U46SV, the Acer TravelMate TimelineX 8473TG, similar processor + GC. Longer battery life apparently, 10.5 hours and a matte display. Any experiences with that laptop anyone? For me, I can run it on high just fine. Even my A42JV could do it to and still be under 90C. Basically, just the design. However, the newer U46SV has a slight processor upgrade and maybe HDD increase as well but otherwise, it's essentially just as redesign. The Y480 is also a nice choice, however, the GT640M LE is probably just Fermi based rather than the new Kepler architecture so performance isn't going to be too different compared to a GT630M. Goes without saying that battery life won't be as long either. No idea about the TimelineX though. It's more of a business one since it carries the TravelMate moniker. But I doubt it's available locally. |

It seems that the U46SV has been refreshed into the U46SM with a GT630M in some places.

QUOTE(markypcs @ Apr 30 2012, 12:07 AM) Is this price for the one with 2450M and GT630M with 8GB ram? If I'm not mistaken, it's the i5-2430M with 4GB RAM. Though there may be i5-2450M equipped units around. 4GB RAM is standard but adding another 4GB is pretty cheap. RM65 for a single stick from Kingston. If so I might opt to buy in Malaysia then ask someone to bring over. So expensive, some more need to ship to Melbourne + $100 QUOTE(tekplyrX @ Apr 30 2012, 11:40 AM) Guys any idea when the ASUS N56 (ivy bridge) is gonna hit the market here? http://www.anandtech.com/show/5772/mobile-...n56vm-preview/3 Probably by the end of the month or next month. |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ May 5 2012, 10:48 PM) Thanks for the update guys! Appreciate it! Still disappointing. The most disappointing refresh for the A series yet. Seems like quite a few anticipated popular notebooks are quite disappointing this time around Pricelist updated~ I just saw a few Asus A45 machines in Digital Mall today Only difference from the current A series is the IB processor and slightly different chassis. |

I am actually looking forward to this MSI Wind U270 with Brazos 2.0 APU. Unfortunately, the price isn't very attractive.

QUOTE(Amal @ May 11 2012, 03:03 PM) Hard to say, for now the 1225B has been confirmed with the older E-450. Well, hope they release a 1225BX with the Brazos 2.0. I like the new Flare design a lot. QUOTE(scar_face008 @ May 11 2012, 03:36 PM) It's the first one announced for a netbook. Acer also has a 14" using it. I'm gonna have to guess another month or two if MSI pushes it hard. |
