1. Preferred Brand - except (Dell, Asus, Acer)
2. Budget - up to RM5k
3. Usage - Business, working on very large Excel spreadsheets
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15.6
5. Others - I5 Sandy Bridge, has good heat management, easy to get battery replacement

Need recommendations from Sifus. TQ

Dell XPS 15 or 15z would be the better picks because of the FullHD screen but it seems you don't want Dell laugh.gif
Same goes for Asus G series laugh.gif
The only option left is Sager? Configure Sager units here: http://www.illegear.com/
Sager NP5165, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT555M + (1920x1080)@RM3199, FreeDOS [CPU Options: i5-2410M - i7-2860QM]

Hi everyone. I need a a recommendation for a laptop/netbook

1. Preferred Brand - none. Well, maybe lenovo or asus ee series?

2. Budget - less than RM1500

3. Usage - research purpose. Graph plotting, word, presentation slides, net browsing etc. No gaming, so I don't really want a high specced laptop, but just enough to multitask and play flash

4. Preferred laptop/screen size - between 10 and 13

5. Misc - must be light! Less than 1.5kgs. And if possible, the netbook HDD can be changed to SSD (don't mind if I have to do it myself)

Thanks in advance!

These would be a better in terms of processing power nod.gif:
Dell
Inspiron 13R, i3-380M + Intel HD@RM1399
Inspiron 13R, i5-480M + Intel HD@RM1599

The Asus 1215b is geared more towards gaming/entertainment, not multitasking haha

Cant  compare like this, the asus 1215b rsp 1299 only,  much more cheaper than dell..
*
apiddo is looking for a laptop capable of multitasking, which the 1215b can't. And since he doesn't game at all... having a E-450 is not the best choice nod.gif
So at the end of the day, having the i3-380M powered 13R would be the better pick icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(apiddo @ Sep 14 2011, 03:54 PM)
Thank you both for the replies. Just went to lowyat today, and now I have to choose between all of these. Care to share some info about them?

Dell inspiron 13R (Intel i3)- RM1399
Asus ee pc 1215B (AMD E450) - RM1299
HP pavillion DM1-4000AU (AMD E450) - RM1099 (online price)
Lenovo ideapad S205 (AMD E450) - RM1299
Lenovo ideapad S100 (Intel N570) - RM1099
MSI U160DX (Intel N570) - RM999

This would be my first netbook, so I really have no idea about the build quality etc. Dell inspiron is too heavy, plus the battery life isn't that great. For the other netbooks, all have about the same specs, except for the processor (AMD vs Intel) and screen size (11.6" vs 12"). I don't really have a preference, but I want it to be as light a possible, without sacrificing perfomance. So, can anyone advice me which netbook is better? icon_question.gif

Btw, is it better to upgrade windows 7 starter? Most netbooks i see only have windows 7 starter.... How much will it be to upgrade? Do i have to buy a new copy/license to install other version of 7??
*
The Inspiron 13 is 13" in size, and the processor is much better than E-450 APUs nod.gif
But if you're looking for something smaller, then the E-450 will do~
In general, the larger the screen size, the shorter the battery life laugh.gif
Perhaps you can take a look at Dell M102z? Its more expensive, but comes with 7,200rpm HDD, which will give a little bit of speed boost

I already have a dell 15" XPS, so I don't really need a bulky laptop  tongue.gif
Hmm, Dell M102z also looks great. A bit more expensive, but it comes preinstalled with windows 7 home premium 64bit, and 4gb ram. Worth the money I think. Btw, when i say multitask, i meant like websurfing and mp3-ing and making powerpoint slides all at the same time. I don't intend to use any resource hogging programs like photo editor, so 2gb should be okay?

Now i'm torn between Asus 1215b, HP dm1-4000 and dell m102z  cry.gif  icon_question.gif
*
Best to go for 4gb nod.gif
As for the rest, it all depends on which one you like the most? hmm.gif
If you are more concerned about performance, m102z it is hehe~

I got what you mean bro haha, apparently quite a lot of ppl are unhappy with the non-chiclet keyboard designs as well...
But then if you don't mind the looks, the typing feel is actually quite good on the N series. And the typing accuracy is decent too~

Most of the standard notebooks on market now (apart from Toshiba) comes with 64-bit W7HP o, so no problems there if you want to upgrade the RAM nod.gif

Because it has a better graphic card and processor, simple as that laugh.gif
The Asus will be worth it if your work requires higher resolution screen
Do head over to the Dv6 dedicated thread for better responses from owner~

Which is better between these 2;
Asus a43s i7 @ asus n45s?

Asus A43Sv (i7 variant) is better in terms of processing power.
The Asus N45Sf is better in everything else laugh.gif
But do take note that there's a problem with the N45Sf at the moment, the problem is still partially solved....
