Hi

I just installed

a) Auto Gate point using 7 core x 2.5mm PVC/SWA/PVC cable buried underground
b) Gate Light point using 2 core x 1.5mm PVC/SWA/PVC cable buried underground
c) Door bell point using 2 core x 1.5mm PVC/SWA/PVC cable burier underground

I read some people said 11 core armored cable for the gate but mine only have 7 core...So, is it sufficient? any disadvantage or problem that I may face in the future? I have been asked the contractor about this before install but he insisted 7 core was enough...

Anyone please give some explanation?

thanks a lot~

From what I know.. usually you get extra cores (1-2) for in the future when any of the cores deteriorate and you can replace (no need dig up the ground again).

Why not just get a 12 core, all kaw tim, got extra left over.

It is not money issues....and I don't know why contractor don't want to install more core for me (more money to earn but they don't want)..

now, I am worried I may face problems in the future because of this....scared....haiz

Added on September 7, 2011, 11:17 ammay I know Autogate system usually required how many core?

If Look at you description, you are using 11 (7+2+2) core rights?

Can be added up like that? I don't know...I thought gate itself should have 11 core?

If I remember right, for a normal set up 7 cores can kaw thim all the autogate + doorbell + lights. - no balance , all used up.
My contractor installing 9 cores (2 extra balance)

Maybe they want to sell you all the balance core they have in stock tongue.gif

I don't know how 7 core can use for all gate, bell and light. Unless the light control are build on the autogate controller.

From my calculation you need 11 cores:-

Power = 3 Cores (L,N, & E)
Autogate Switch = 4 Cores (for 2 switch), some use 3 cores
Bell = 2 Cores
Light = 2 Cores

So you use up all 11, maybe 10

ooh...according to the description of my quotation, bell, light and gate are separated...if all add up, mine one should be 11 core...

the minimum as below:

Power = 2 Cores (L,N)
the steel wire inside the 1st pvc skin = (E)

from WIKI: Armour: Steel wire armour provides mechanical protection, which means the cable can withstand higher stresses, be buried directly and used in external or underground projects.[4] The armouring is normally connected to earth and can also be used as the circuit protective conductor ("earth wire") for the equipment supplied by cable.

Autogate Switch = 3 Cores (for 2 switch)
Bell = 2 Cores
Light = 1 Cores (L only, N & E share with auto gate power)
total 8 cores

for 7 cores, the auto gate the lights on/ off control by the auto gate control panel.

7 cores = +- rm9.50/M
11 cores =+-rm15/M

go for 11 cores so that can have some spare, the cable wont cost much for link house 10m is more than enough whistling.gif

The Steel protective usually is not grounded, unless the wireman do it. Also it usually cut out on the switch panel / faceplate.

Question, so if the electrician run a single 7 core cable, and can do everything, then the electrician shouldn't charge separately for each type: autogate, bell and gate lights?
