Yo guys, new Razer-ed forumer reporting in! Bought my Chimaera 5.1 from linglong a few weeks ago... PMed quite a number of sellers but some were either expensive or simply don't have stock. I ended up with linglong because his price is reasonable and is the only guy who could send out asap (Yea, I was so very excited and wanted to make sure my headset will arrive by weekend tongue.gif )

Anyway, as expected from Razer this thing came in an elaborate packaging. Heck, even the user manual has colours in it and cut in a non-standard shape whereas most manufacturers will just settle with monolithic square/rectangle. The charging stand is practical, serves well to hold the headset in place when not in use as well as charging without the need to connect an extra power cable. Bling-bling is of course classy and cool cool2.gif One of the deciding factors over Chimaera 2.1 for me is that this model runs on the 5.8GHz frequency, so no fighting for channels. My housing area has plenty of wireless routers in range, coupled with my own bluetooth devices, wireless mouse and keyboard, etc. I dunno about everyone else but going through annoying frequent stutters or dropouts in-game is a big no no. Oh yea, thing baby has an optical port so I can easily hook it up to my PS3. Mic of course wouldn't work since Chimaera 5.1 was designed for XBOX360, but I think it's possible to workaround this limitation by switching to local team comm mode and hook an audio cable from the 3.5mm jack to a USB soundcard on the PS3.

No issues so far after weeks of use, sound quality is good but I guess my only complain is the ear cushion. Seriously, the pads are way too small and thin for my liking. I know many reviewers stated that the cushions are comfy and all but it might just be that I have one big head >.<

Therefore, I decided to do this today:

The connection i use is 3.5mm to RCA, using Belkin Y cable. ( I tried using Optical, but it seem that i cant get any sound from it, dont know what happen.. may be i needto find the correct setting  cry.gif  )
At the moment i have 2 Headset, Alienware TactX & this Chimaera 5.1, compare to the TactX, the Chimaera are heavier.. coz its bigger and it even have battery inside it  tongue.gif . Still the weight is acceptable for me. The cushion was very confy, because its cover around my ears.. not on my ears.. that was a good thing  cool.gif . For the battery life, i did use the headset for 5 hrs straight, from the manual it said it can be use up to 8 hrs, and yess i think it can.

The sound produce by this  headset are way better than my TactX. I think its worth the money i paid for this Chimaera 5.1,

Wireless + 5.1 =  thumbup.gif

Regarding the optical no sound part, did you select the correct input mode on your Chimaera's base station? I accidentally set mine to analog once while I was on optical and wasted quite some tine fiddling with PS3's settings doh.gif Try long pressing the right most button to switch between input mode. But if that's correct, make sure you are feeding Chimaera a compatible format. It'll accept 2ch LPCM and Dolby Digital sources nod.gif

Added on October 20, 2011, 7:23 pmOne more thing to add, it's better to provide a true 5.1 input signal for Dolby Surround to really work its magics. For your case, the stereo signal has to be upnixed to 5.1 first by Dolby PLII before being processed into virtual surround by Dolby Headphone, of which PLII doesn't really upnixes accurately in most cases sweat.gif
