Depends on luck? For me:

Small box, items slightly over Rm500 = kastam ignore
Huge box, items waaaay over Rm500 = "Hello, this is Kastam, your package is with us kthxbai"

yea havent been taxed since i strictly follow the rule of not exceeding 12000 yen per shipment.

used to have bad experience with customs.

and oh, never use expensive shipping like DHL
