Hey guys, I just finished the backup to DVDs, but not sure if I did it right? I only used 4 DVD discs (4.7GB discs) where as Simon used 5 and the manual suggested 6?

Is this normal?

Hey guys, its me again. So I'm going to try to do another backup since my last backup only used 4 DVDs whereas everyone else used at least 5.

Question: Does it matter that I have already installed some programs (audio and video editing stuff, Firefox, Rocketdock etc)? Will this affect the backup in any way?

what goes in to u backup DVD is only the win7 recovery partition.....

So you're basically saying it doesn't matter that I have installed other programs right?? (because everyone seems to do it first thing after reformat or when they first get the computer, so I just thought it might affect it)

You can see your recovery partition in Disk Management

Hey guys, so I finally got around to doing the backup to DVDs for the 2nd time.

If you can recall, the first time around I only had to use 4 DVDs, and everyone else in this forum used 5.

Today, I did it again.....I still only had to use 4 DVDs. So what do I make of it??? I don't think I did it wrong the first time around. (message box did come out at the end "Successfully...")

I think you were from NZ
Probably Asus installed different programs on your laptop compare to Malaysians and that is why Asus recommend 6 DVDs maybe for those versions which use more installed programs.
*
Yup I'm the one from NZ.

Oh really??? Yeah that's what I was thinking too...that perhaps mine were different to everyone else's in here. Because when I started up the backup, it says prepare 4 writeable DVDs just above the drop down bar where you select your DVD-Rom.

QUOTE(IceBikers @ Sep 27 2011, 08:05 PM)
how do u do it for second time?

mine first time failed and never able to do it again.
*
There should be an icon on the desktop that says "AI Recovery". Otherwise you go to Control Panel > System and Security > Backup and Restore. Then you back it up to disc/DVD. Hope that helps.

Question: To run the N55SF on battery saving mode (unplugged), is it possible to NOT use the white ASUS background and have the taskbar showing???

I want to use my own desktop background and show the taskbar at all times in this mode, but it doesn't seem possible.

Go to your Power4Gear control panel, the last option will be Battery Saving Desktop & Hide Gadget.
Choose No for both and save.
YES!!! This is exactly what I needed to do. Thank you for that.

yeah it's quite annoying... summore the taskbar always autohide no matter how many zillion times i changed the setting d..

just realized when playing games with batt the game will lag or stutter...

There is a way around this. Sridev Pro Designer had told me what to do and it works. There is actually a Power4Hybrid Control Panel (not the same as Control Panel > Power Management etc), but you access it from there. Should be at the right hand side. A small window will come up behind your other window, so minimize everything and you'll see it. Then change the settings to as he said.

Question: Sometimes when I go to shut down my laptop, it will prompt me with this:

"Please do not power off or unplug your machine, installing update"

I can never tell when this is going to happen. Don't mind it when I'm at home but if I am outside and need to rush off somewhere or have almost no power left, this is a pain in the butt. What can I do about it? Why does it not prompt me for an update when I am in Windows? What are these updates anyway? Are they necessary?

Thanks, looking forward to some answers.

It is basically like an OS update that keeps the features up-to-date. Correct me if Im wrong
I have experienced that situation before. I was literally rushing and boom, it shuts down with 2% stuck-for-15 minutes.  sweat.gif Unfortunately, I had to hold the power button for an emergency shut down
*
Hmm isn't it possible to choose to do them at another time??? They come in the most untimely fashion, and it takes a while to finish.

The computer has essentially exited Windows already and goes to that blue screen just before shutdown, and that is when the update happens. Sometimes it's installing 1 of 1 updates, but sometimes it could be 1 of 12 updates. Gahhh!!!

Sooo there is no way around this?

for me i disable automatic update. i'll only update manually. go control panel> windows update> change settings> select NEVER CHECK FOR UPDATES. in future u can manually update by just clicking CHECK FOR UPDATES

Thanks for that. I think I'd put it on download but choose when to install would probably be better. icon_rolleyes.gif
