Hi everyone, I'm looking to purchase a new monitor probably around next month.. anyone can give good recommendation based on requirements below with good price-to-performance ratio?
  1. Maximum budget RM600. Prefer <RM500 if possible
  2. At least 23" with 16:10 resolution (1920x1200)
  3. Any brand.
  4. MUST-HAVE VGA and DVI ports. HDMI is optional but preferred.
Thanks!

Bro, suggest you save up first. using u2412m now, 16:10 combines with ips is just so damn awesome!! rclxm9.gif
No regrets at all eventhough it about 300 bucks more than u2312hm~

Read up several reviews, seems that 16:10 U2412M will be more suited to my needs, compared to the 16:9 U2312HM... guess I'll get the U2412M instead. Any other better models within the same price range?

Nope tongue.gif
But, LG might be coming with a few new ips display. But the problem is, we dont know whether they will ever bring it to Malaysia or not. Quite a number of monitors available in US dont make it here. Even if they do, it might be from gray importer or have exorbitant prices. So, safest bet is Dell as they even have an awesome 5 year warranty wink.gif

U should get it from Cyntrixtech, they do free calibration(I didnt even have to adjust brightness as they calibrated it so perfectly!! biggrin.gif)

Just ordered one from him laugh.gif

Can't wait to receive it @ Monday or later. rclxm9.gif

Well infact I've never seen one lol laugh.gif

16:10 are like so rare nowadays... if not I also won't opt for U2412M.. $300 extra doh.gif

Upgrading from 19.6" 16:10 (1440x900) to 24" 16:10 (1920x1200). I wonder if it'll surprise my on the first sight tongue.gif

I know ppl say ips colour is better than TN, but I didnt thought that the difference will be this immense!!! drool.gif
If I ever upgrade this monitor, it will only be because I wanna change to a bigger size, and not a better quality monitor biggrin.gif(btw, the build quality also just owns my old glossy plastic monitor tongue.gif)

Airpak Express really awesome, came on Saturday thumbup.gif
And I love reading e books with this, can easily fit two pages clearly,  full size. And I dont read book sitting down one, as I revise by reading a bit, walk around, then read again,....
With my old monitor, can die ready doing like that. Stand a bit far only, all the letters blur ready coz of res and size. If I stand in front of it, the colours will be washed out doh.gif

Now I can easily tilt the monitor to my liking, and heck, I dont even need to do so as the colour is very consistent no matter how I look at it!!(except black colour will have a slight glow from the sides,or what they say "ips glow" but of course, MILES ahead of my old LG biggrin.gif

Super satisfied with my purchase!! thumbup.gif

Damn, some issues on the distributor side seems to have delayed the delivery sad.gif... will not be getting by today.

Hopefully tomorrow can get it cry.gif

Hi all, my laptop have no graphic card, just normal intel® HD Graphics.
And only normal VGA port it has, non DVI or HDMI.

My question is, if i connect my laptop with a 24" LED monitor, will words and graphics show good?
Coz I heard some say it'll be blurry a little.
*
Supposedly no issue as long as your laptop can handle full HD well, since VGA is uncompressed format and just send every signal from your card to monitor.

Just COD-ed with CyntrixTech for the U2412M just now.

Only used it for roughly 1-hour plus.. but I can say that it's really huge compared to my 1440x900 19.6" monitor...

Also, did not notice what's special with the colour calibration UNTIL I've plugged in my laptop with VGA connection. The colour is terrible.. changed the colour setting to match the setting CyntrixTech had set for me in DVI-mode, the colour looks nice now thumbup.gif

Tried to tilt, rotate, swivel around. Indeed a very nice monitor laugh.gif

16:10 monitor ftw! thumbup.gif

16:10 will have bigger area compare to 16:9? 16:10 no good for movie becos if u count the black bars in, u have less watching space compare to 16:9.. if u do other things like gaming and browsing, word processing those then it is bigger la..
*
16:10 have black bars because it's larger than 1080p (16:9) ratio and thus the black bars. Both have same viewing space BUT using 16:10 means you'll have extra area below (black bars).

1080p is already full hd. 1200p is super full hd? hahaha

Majority of the FULL HD monitors are in 16:9 rather than 16:10 resolution.. it's not to the extreme of extremely-rare-cases but still, the 16:9 is much more available in the market IMO.

QUOTE(cysun @ May 16 2012, 10:39 PM)
i wanna ask what kind of cables you ladies are using to connect to your u2412m. I'm getting mine delivered this week and my laptop has HDMI & VGA only. My options are:
a. Display Port to HDMI cable
b. DVI to HDMI cable
c. DVI - HDMI convertor & HDMI cable
d. Display Port - HDMI convertor & HDMI Cable

Wonder if any impact to quality and any significant difference between DVI and Display Port you ladies experiencing so far?
*
Either one will do fine. I'm using DVI-to-DVI for my desktop and VGA-to-VGA for my laptop nod.gif

No notable quality differences, both are fine as my GC and laptop is enough to run at 1920x1200 resolution (only normal work usage / browsing tongue.gif)

The only thing is remember to match your Colour Setting you used for DVI and VGA else you'll definitely feel the differences due to different setting (Mine was calibrated by Cyntrix and I think they did it over DVI cable and when I plugged in my laptop in VGA, the colour was like.. shocking.gif . Matched both settings and it's the same now.)

QUOTE(ben3003 @ May 16 2012, 11:11 PM)
so in term of watching movies no much difference since the extra pixels is black bar..
*
Yes. Both 16:9 and 16:10 have same width (1920) and the only differences is the height.

My U2711 just arrived office.
Ordered on 13th, delivered 17th, not bad.
Coming from 19" Desktop and 14" Laptop.
I must say this display is f***ing huge!!
Office has not PC can output to 2560x1440, so have to wait till go back home to test.
*
Exactly what I felt when I received my U2412; coming from 19" and 15".. it's already damn huge to me laugh.gif

Anyway, anyone know if there's USB Upstream Splitter?

The monitor has one Upstream port which we connect the cable to, and the another end of the cable will be connected to a PC so that monitor's USB Ports are activated.. but I frequently connect two computers (laptop + desktop) to it and wonder if there's a splitter so I can connect BOTH the computers to the monitor and switch it whenever I need? So only one set of keyboard/mouse is needed...

U2412 only have DVI, VGA and DisplayPort. DisplayPort can deliver as good as HDMI can (including sound), or even better. So there's no worry about HDMI as you can easily get a (mini)/HDMI-to-DisplayPort cables around.

Read here for more if you're interested.

Urhh.. Polarz... I'm afraid your advice is misaligned a little, unless I'm wrong. Unless you have tried the HDMI-DP cable yourself personally, I think readers here should be a bit more wary from my own personal experience this weekend.

I went to pick up a noops cable HDMI-Displayport (CB-CA2251) - cannot work. noobs dont even list this product on their own website anymore (www.noops.asia).

Please be careful Lowyat readers - if your laptop is HDMI, safest bet is to HDMI-DVI to your DELL U24212M and not use the DisplayPort. RM75 blown on the cable for nothing. According websites out there, the HDMI-DP cable not bi-directional and this HDMI-DisplayPort is meant to work ONE WAY only : meaning your source is DP and the target monitor is HDMI.

Also wanna ask if you DELL U2412M owners had a DVI-DVI cable bundled with your shipment or not? I only got a VGA-VGA cable.

If you really want to use the DisplayPort with HDMI, best to use an adapter. Noops has loads of them and if you're in KL you can pickup from ViewNet folks at Lowyat.

sad.gif expensive error on my part.
*
Never personally tried it but from most of the recommendations online, seems that adapter is better than direct HDMI-DP cables to prevent incompatibility..

Sorry to hear that for your loss sad.gif

Anyway, yes. My U2412M does have DVI-DVI cable along with VGA-VGA cable bundled together.

U2412M = 16:10 (The one I'm using now)
U2412HM = 16:9 (Saw from various forums, but still can't find an official link to the item @ Dell's website)

laugh.gif Maybe they're importing the U2412HM and sell it. Who knows, haha. tongue.gif
