I dunno what's on KD's mind. Clearly taking out your best player on the pitch when you are just one goal up isn't a wise decision when you could have taken someone who was looking quite out of place despite some contribution and involvement in game.In this case, I m referring to our big number 9!

Maybe KD wanna prove the world wrong and stick by Carrol. But that's a very big gamble. It could have backfired and we might end up losing points again. Anyway, defensive wise, we suck big time once more. Clumsy and nervous clearance. We could have done better. Not sure where the problem lies but heck, Carra and Skrtel were clumsy as hell.

As for who shud be in starting line, I cant understand why Kuyt isn't in it despite his working rate and scoring form of late. Plus, it's known fact that Jarvis is dangerous down the flank and we would need Kuyt's 101% workrate to help the fullback in defending especially when we know our defensive line had been shaky of lately. Henderson offers little support(just like Carrol) and imho,, Bellamy and Kuyt deserve the starting spots more than they do! Just my 2cents!

IMO It was the correct sub. Gerrard isn't a great CM and not to mention it's risky to have him play in CM making tackles. Suarez didn't warrant a sub but it was either him or Carroll. Suarez played well tonight, but Carroll still needs play time to improve and have better understanding with his teamates. Also, Suarez has nearly always been subbed towards the end of a match. He just wanted to stay on and play, nothing wrong with that. Kenny will deal with him.

I think what we all doubting here is whether KD trying to pro Carrol or is he making decision based on situation. Or even worse, he trying to justify his statement on Carrol and prove the world wrong. A goal up and you taking out your best player and putting in an unfit player who din play for 6 freaking months? That's seriously wtf.

I wouldn't say Gerrard didn't play for 6 months. He did play in midweek. rolleyes.gif
And Gerrard looked far fitter than most of our midfielders when he came on. So he was the right choice.

A player's fitness dun return to his best for one game which he played only...erm 20minutes+?

Carrol injured last March and he is still yet to return to his 'best'.

As for midfielders we had on pitch earlier, they were tired cos midweek game. So, of course, generally, Gerrard will look fitter... smile.gif

So what is the reason for you getting your knickers in a bunch over this substitution?
*
Look fitter doesn't mean he is fit. He has fresh legs but he is still unfit. In a game with such high tempo, and gerrard slowly losing his pace of old times, this is very unwise time of substituting Suarez with him. If Adam was the one being replaced by Gerrard, fine, good decision because technically, Adam isn't really good in defending and in terms of passing, Gerrard has an edge over him.

Have you not heard of the saying ' Attack is the best defense'? Suarez was causing all sorts of problems to Wolves' defense and in a month like this where we lose 2 league matches and struggled to beat a championship team in carling cup, I would expect KD to put strongest player on pitch until we get a far convincing result . 2-1 with the shaky defense of ours, taking out the player that was a thorn in opponent's flesh is clearly an unwise move. Still, I prefer Gerrard-Suarez linkup than Gerrard-Carrol. That's the point I m trying to make.

It's a no brainer that Suarez shouldnt have been subbed, he was creating chances after chances but at that time i think Kenny was thinking more about the team rather than just one individual.  I think his decisions are based on multiple factors but it's obvious he needs to prep Gerrard for match fitness and he can only do that by playing him. Likewise, he also needs to help Carroll find his top form and hte only way Carroll can do that is by playing more minutes. I suppose it does looks like he favors Carroll but he has little choice, we spent 35 mil on the player and some more on other players to bring the best out of Carroll. So he has to make it work one way or the other or the owners will ask serious questions on his purchases.

Ofcourse he took a big risk with the sub and it would reflect badly on him had it backfired. Frankly i thought he left it a bit too late for my liking. And initially i thought Adam needed to be replaced first and foremost because he looked really laborous in the 2nd half and his positioning was getting worse by the minute. But i suppose none of us would know for sure what's in Kenny's mind.
*
Exactly. Not only he was slow in tracking back. His misplaced a number of passes late in the game. I was expecting Gerrard replacing him and KD linking up Gerrard with Suarez and Carrol. Turned out, Adam remained on pitch. doh.gif

Can someone tell me what Henderson actually does for the team ? I mean what can he do that either Kuyt or Maxi can't ? I guess he's younger and has more engine in him but he has this nasty habit of slowing down our tempo.

*sarcastic mode on*

He is ENGLISH. Thus, he is guaranteed a starting berth.
