for foreign currency FD, is there a risk?
The risk is the exchange rate.

our capital is protected?
Protected in the said currency only.

QUOTE(zenwell @ Aug 25 2011, 12:54 PM)
what about the interest rates? it fluctuates according to the currency rate?
Interest is fixed when you opened the FD account.

QUOTE(zenwell @ Aug 25 2011, 12:54 PM)
we follow the rate stated at the point of fd maturity date right? eg: affin bank says 3.8% but at the end of the tenure not really 3.8% right? currently I'm also looking at public bank AUD fd 5.45% for 12 mths.
No. It follows the interest rate stated in their system and also your FD receipt when you opened your account. Assume there is an increase in the interest rate by the time your FD matures, it will still follow the old interest rate.

Standard Chartered once offered 5% interest for their e$aver account too before the 2008 credit crunch. Just like this one, it was just a limited time promotion. The interest earned is credited into your account on a monthly basis and as far as i am concerned, they will not waive the e$aver debit MasterCard annual fee for you.

can we decline ATM card and Debit card for the account? Whats' IBG?
Not sure if you can decline the debit MasterCard. Anyway, IBG is Interbank GIRO, basically means interbank funds transfer.

I thought if close account then can get a Bankers Cheque?
Only if you request for it and you will have to pay for the Banker's Cheque yourself.
