i am so so angry!

my contractor didn't protect my floor at all when he did the hacking and drilling. Then afterwards the electrician came and do the wiring and hack the wall also and all the small pieces fall down to my beautiful flooring. I'm very very sure all my ceramic tiles are now scratched.

Also, my nice parquet now has big scratches (lines) on each room. I am SO UPSET!!!!!!!!!!

Can ceramic tiles be polised? I know parquet can. I'm thinking to 'tolak' their gaji now. It's common sense right to put protection layer before start work!! In this instance, what would some of you do?

Not all contractor put protect layer. Some don't care. You have to specify.

Hi Adele,

I not too sure what type of Contractor you employed.. If you deal direct with Indon or Trade Contractor, all this items should be prepared by yourself...

You can purchase the material like PE Sheet, Plywood or etc and request them to install for you.. Anyhow the gaji they might charge you lo....

As I always mentioned, construction/renovation required a lot of coordination and planning....

Dun worry too much yet, let them clear the debris first. In construction sites lots stone chips on tiles & workers just step on them all the time ..

that's existing tiles, no change the tiles. i just added some plug points and hack a wall. i thought is common sense to protect before drilling.

chinese electrician, forumer recommend one.

anyway my 1st time with reno, how i know they won't do this..definitely won't recommend this electrician or my contractor to anyone else.

mrPOTATO..ya guess u're right. but i got a big shock just now coz all my parquet was scratched and my tiles filled with debris, sand etc. very hard to calm down after see-ing something like this.

Then..the 'tong sampah' for clearing the debris? my contractor also didn't order. i already ask him everything he do, he OK OK. then 2 days later he said..no tong sampah ask me find myself. so delay few days there.

Then today i found out, he bought 'some' things which i didn't ask him to buy also. i don't know where he got the idea to buy, he said normally house owner will use the things. But i said i am not gonna use what. then the things which i ask him to buy like windows, and doors he didn't buy. He ask me...'if i buynow right, they gonna charge delivery again..is that ok'. I ask him why he didn't plan beforehand, already give him 3 weeks to prepare y last minute only order. Now buy the wrong things, and then need to deliver the right things again.

and then there's the issue which he didn't protect my floor!!

In house renovation, if you are a easy trigger person (very easy get upset), better ask someone manage cause i guarantee you will not be able to sleep and blood pressure will shoot up. Also very hard to get 100% unless you really want to pay. The detail work is the costliest work.

I know how to remove the scratches...but for black tiles on my counter-top, I have tried, can't removed because scratches easily to be seen on black colour...I feel upset too..

for light colour tiles, try use green sponge (those use to clean dishes) and water....slowly rub.....

Come to think about it, my electrician also never cover my floor. Maybe I have already cover n protect most of the floor. Debris and sand are there when he left, I have to sweep and clean it every now and then.

I thought just by calling the dustbin company and they will send one to your doorstep. Like order pizza hut mah...so easy job your contractor also can't do?

anyway, confirm my tiles and parquet got scratches. Deep ones in ceramic tiles.. black lines.

my tiles are light in colour, the black lines are very obvious. Anyone have any idea how to polish or get rid of the black lines pls?

There is no way to remove the scratches in ceramic tiles. The surface has been damaged. You may cover the scratches area with carpet, if possible. Else the only way is to replace them.
For parquet, you can still grind and varnish.

Need to cool down accept the losses and do more detailed planning and visualising to prevent other forseen and currently unforseen problems that can crop up in the course of the renovation. blush.gif
