So anyway I went to Tsukiji fish market - twice! Once for Sushi Dai and once for Daiwa Sushi (the two supposedly best sushi joints in the area). Sushi was frickin' awesome! Totally worth the 1.5-hour queue.

QUOTE(KenDiriwan @ Sep 3 2011, 07:19 PM) Wow those arent even half of you guys satisfaction? Looks like i need more exploration for Jap cuisine. jogoya is quantity >>> quality. it's worth going if you're one of those types who can hantam 3 plates of oysters and still got room to whack sashimi like today is last day on earth. besides that, it's got a big variety of food, so there's "something for everyone." just that the food quality is overall pretty bad. |

A bit off topic I suppose but if you're ever in Changi Airport for like ... long transit, or you're there early waiting for your flight, head over to T1 to eat at Saboten. It's awesome, can almost rival the tonkatsu I had in Tokyo. Of course the downside is ... the restaurant doesn't serve anything else.

QUOTE(RazorVista @ Nov 25 2011, 01:50 PM) @7chai, let me pump in a little of my knowledge about Sashimi for you to understand more: - To the Japanese it means less than a day old, as in less than 24 hours after it was caught. This is often referred to as being sashimi quality. However for it to be truly of sashimi quality it must have been caught, killed, gutted and stored in a certain way before sale. Normally a "fresh" fish is sliced straight away after being caught. What are the odd Japanese Restaurant is serving that? Near zero. So how do a Japanese Restaurant determine their fishes are fresh? To maintain a fish freshness at the optimum level, a "blast frozen" is required for fresh water fish such as Salmon which means a Salmon is frozen under -50 degrees and shipped to designated Japanese Restaurant within 10 days. For salt water fish such as Tuna, blast frozen is not compulsory. Have you eaten sashimi in Japan before? |

QUOTE(RazorVista @ Nov 25 2011, 04:13 PM) Yes, at Tokyo which it is the same like what we are having here at Japanese Restaurant. Slightly better because you know they do not need to be air-flown. Are you sure? Which places here exactly are you talking about that have the 'same' sushi as in Tokyo? |

QUOTE(RazorVista @ Nov 28 2011, 09:48 PM) Erm...what are you getting actually? Something you need from me? Just PM me..thanks! I'm just wondering which sushi joints in KL that you consider on par with Japan sushi joints, and whether I'd need to sell a kidney to be able to afford to eat there. |

QUOTE(samlee860407 @ Nov 29 2011, 01:38 PM) yea, kampachi's itu RM2xx sashimi is too much for me too just when those 3 starwood hotels gona have japanese restaurant in it la lol you should see prices here in Singapork, some of them are madness. Places like tatsuya sushi with sgd75 for 5 pieces and ~$200 omakase sets ... all the way to kunio tokuoka at sentosa with its ridiculous sgd750 kaiseki. 750! bring a date and 10% service charge 7% gst and you're looking at sgd1.7k / rm4.3k for one dinner. ![]() (not my photo, taken from teh internets) nevermind, when i strike 4D or toto i shall go and report back whether it's good or not XD |

@sam how much you pay for the lunch?
Anyway supposedly Ippodo is the biggest ramen chain in the world. I suppose of all the ramen places I've tried so far it's by far the most flavorful soup base. Blogpost here otherwise just see pictuars and drool! ![]() |

wokay so I tried santouka. the braised pork cheek is super win, tender and melt in mouth. but also a tad bit salty so if combine with the shoyu base, end up a bit salt overload.
other than the braised pork cheek though, ippudo still wins on the noodle + soup. blogwhore link here otherwise just enjoice the photos! ![]() ![]() |

QUOTE(Crys_Crys @ Dec 15 2011, 11:26 PM) Just wanna ask opinions, where to have Japanese Buffet better? Jogoya or Shogun? If possible need to be halal one in my humble opinion, neither are worth the money, unless you're the kind that can whack 2 dozen oyster at one shot. |

Spam some photo first.
Dozo ... I don't really consider their food Japanese, but since they advertise themselves as "Fine Modern Japanesque" ... then OK lor. rm110 for 6-course set lunch, rm170 for 7-course set dinner. Food's pretty good. ![]() Keisuke ... this restaurant opened by TV Tokyo's RAMEN KING for 2011 ... but his signature Prawn Stock Ramen made by boiling few hundred ama ebi (sweet shrimp), he don't want to serve anymore cos local singaporeans all go and eat and cannot appreciate. The tonkotsu and shoyu ramens too salty for me, but crab stock ramen is interesting. ![]() This post has been edited by deodorant: Feb 1 2012, 11:10 AM |

So anyway last night I finally had a slice of Japanese MuskMelon ... and ... while it was pretty darn good, it was also pretty darn expensive, and i'm not convinced it's worth the money
