user posted image

The Bundesliga is one of the top national leagues, currently ranked 3rd in Europe according to UEFA's league coefficient ranking, based on recent European performances. It is the number one football league in terms of average attendance. Excluding franchise based leagues, the Bundesliga has the highest average attendance of all leagues in all sports.

The Bundesliga was formed in 1963 and the structure and organisation of the nation's football leagues have undergone frequent changes right up to the present day. The league was originally founded by the German Football Association, but is now operated by the Deutsche Fußball Liga.

Since Bundesliga is not a big as compared to Seria A, La Liga and EPL in Malaysia. why not put one big thread about Bundesliga instead of teams in the league? That way I think can invite more discussions.

Good job.

Another thread that gives a plane to fans from different clubs instead of the normal " if you dont have anything to ass-kiss our club GTFO" thread... nod.gif

sos: how have Germany's biggest exports since 2010 fared?

QUOTE
SPAIN

Mesut Ozil ( Werder Bremen to Real Madrid)

Since moving to Spain, Ozil has not only increased his fan base, but vastly improved his game. The 22-year-old was always a talent at Bremen, but has made the next step at Madrid. He has assisted more goals (six) in the Champions League than any other player, and only Lionel Messi exceeds his tally of 14 set-ups in La Liga. Ozil’s success with the Spanish record champions is said to have influenced the move for Sahin.

Ivan Rakitic ( Schalke to Sevilla)

A casualty of Felix Magath’s reign of terror at Schalke, Rakitic jumped ship in January and missed out on the Ruhr club’s improbable run to the Champions League semi-finals. Since moving to Sevilla, he has been a huge hit. The Croat has scored five goals and assisted two more in 13 appearances, helping lift the Andalucians to sixth in La Liga.

Sami Khedira ( Stuttgart to Real Madrid)

If Ozil had doubters ahead of his transfer to Madrid, Khedira’s naysayers were five-fold. The former Stuttgart man is not at all a classic Real-type player, yet he has managed to consistently maintain a starting role alongside Xabi Alonso. His subtle influence often goes un-noticed until he is missing: in the recent Clasicos, Madrid managed a draw and a win with Khedira as a starter; they were knocked out of the Champions League in his absence.

ENGLAND

Edin Dzeko ( Wolfsburg to Manchester City)

When Wolfsburg’s all-time leading goal-scorer and the 2009-10 Bundesliga top scorer joined City in January, he was tipped for instant success. He has struggled to have any impact, however, and scored just five goals in 18 appearances. Accustomed to having a classy playmaker behind him, he has had difficulty adapting to City’s counterattacking style of play, and has been relegated to the bench.

Jerome Boateng ( Hamburg to Manchester City)

A pair of knee injuries have taken their toll on his season, but Boateng has only been minimally effective for City since his move last summer. The 22-year-old has made 24 appearances in all competitions, and even when fit, has not been a shoe-in for a starting role. Bayern Munich have expressed interest in bringing him back in Germany, but Roberto Mancini nonetheless insisted recently that he has plans for Boateng.

ITALY

Mark van Bommel ( Bayern to AC Milan)

Bayern will be kicking themselves for letting the Dutchman go in January. Since moving to AC Milan, Van Bommel has made such an impression that some have even speculated that the Serie A champions no longer need Andrea Pirlo. He may be 34 years of age, but the Dutchman has proven he still has plenty of quality left in reserve.

Rafinha ( Schalke to Genoa)

Another talented Schalke player to depart as a result of a disagreement with Magath, Rafinha has regularly featured for Genoa, but has largely disappointed. His performances early in the season were disastrous, and while he has improved to some degree, he is still not the player Genoa were expecting when they paid an estimated €8m (£7m) to secure his services.

RUSSIA

Carlos Eduardo ( Hoffenheim to Rubin Kazan)

When Rubin Kazan offered €20m (£17.5m) for Carlos Eduardo, Hoffenheim could not pass up on the chance to cash in on the playmaker. He scored twice in his Russian Premier League debut against Amkar, but his transfer was late in the season and he was only involved in six matches before the 2010 campaign came to an end.

Kevin Kuranyi ( Schalke to  Dinamo Moscow)

When offered a big-money contract at Moscow, Kuranyi departed Germany on a Bosman and picked up where he had left off at Schalke. Playing for Dinamo Moscow, he scored nine goals in 16 appearances in the 2010 Russian Premier League. This season he has only been on target in one of seven matches, but he has also given three assists.

TURKEY

Zvjezdan Misimovic ( Wolfsburg to Galatasaray)

A bright star for Wolfsburg, Misimovic joined Galatasaray at the end of August, and by mid-November was banished to the reserves. He managed just nine matches in Turkey before signing for Dinamo Moscow in March. He has since scored twice in six Russian Premier League matches, and appears to be on track to rediscovering his old form.

Bayern maintained their superb early-season form with another crushing win over Freiburg, 7-0
while last season champion BVB suffer a shock defeat at home to newly promote Hertha Berlin.
Gladbach also continue its convincing form, bagging another win, this time against Kaiserslautern.

tonite clash between Villarreal vs Bayern Munich will be close encounter.

Villarreal is struggling this past couple of weeks (5-0 trashing by Barca, 2-2 draw at home to Seville) while Bayern riding high with a 7-0 trashing last weekend. But Villar got advantage playing at home.

Bundesliga better than EPL?

Bayern Munich's Uli Hoeness: Bundesliga only trails La Liga & will soon leave the Premier League in its wake

QUOTE
Outspoken club president believes his team plays in Europe's second-best domestic league behind the Spanish Primera and that the German top flight has the greatest depth

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has insisted that the Bundesliga is Europe's second-best domestic league.

The German top flight has in recent years surpassed Serie A in the Uefa coefficients, and currently stands a close third behind La Liga and the Premier League. However, Hoeness feels that the Bundesliga is not to be considered inferior to the EPL.

"We are currently number two behind Spain," he told Bild am Sonntag. "Italy, we have long left behind us; England, we are just about to leave behind."

No stranger to controversy, the outspoken president also hailed the Bundesliga for its wide distribution of quality among all teams.

"Based on the full breadth, I would consider the Bundesliga even today as the strongest league in the world."

It has been a decade since a Bundesliga team last won the Champions League. However, following a slump during the 2000s, German teams have had some more positive results in Europe, with Bayern Munich and Schalke reaching the final and semi-final of the Champions League, respectively, in 2010 and 2011.
source

while it can be argued that English team achieved more glory in Europe compared to the German teams, but can these english teams do it without being buried in crushing debts?

Unlike EPL, top teams in Bundesliga isn't buried in debts because they are run responsibly, can the top english teams even be on par with these German teams if they are run responsibly without splashing so much cash?

nah..

its sour grape argument, jealousy. EPL have more audience, influence, marketing value, etc. tycoons all over the world putting more interest /money on it.

let say if u are a fan of modest club like Koln FC, for example. some super wealthy Arab tycoon want to buy your club, and promise to invest to the club like Chelsea, Man City (and latest example, Malaga, PSG). u'll definitely welcome that kind of investment (read 'splashing so much cash')

but still, credit to few Bundesliga team. they probably have modest budget compare to EPL, La Liga, Serie A, but still competitive in CL and EL.

i dont like to argue /compare between league. i just follow 2 leagues (PL and M -League), dont have much time for the others. if the other league are better, so be it..

nah, the thing is German clubs and association have very different financial philosophies. The system by which Bundesliga clubs are regulated emphasize on strict financial rules and licensing. The German board always want to maintain control of the club.

QUOTE
"When clubs can spend what they want, like in the Premier League, it's very difficult for German clubs to succeed," said Antonia Hagemann, project manager with the UK-based Supporters Direct organisation, which has carried out a Uefa-funded study of club ownerships and fan involvement across Europe.
quoted from here

QUOTE
Under Bundesliga rules, members must own 50% of the shares plus one extra vote of these spin-offs. This is the so-called 50+1 model, which makes it impossible for private investors to take over a club.

Germany legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hit out at clubs whose mega rich owners are using their wealth to make their way to the top of European football, suggesting that it is not sustainable
QUOTE
The German league has been seen as one of the most financially responsible in recent seasons, and the Bavarians' chairman is happy that Uefa president Michel Platini is implementing rules to try and make the playing field more level, insisting that the game is currently unfair.

Rummenigge told DRadio: “In the words Financial Fair Play really lies the truth. It seems obvious at the moment that there is Financial Unfair Play. And it is quite clear: we have a world in which the Arabs, Russians and Italians play a dramatic role.

“Because of their wealth they can make transfers and accordingly can improve the quality of their teams, and I think that cannot be the way of the future.”

serious contender for "goal of the season". Superb ball control followed with a bicycle kick, even better than Rooney's goal against Man City I'd say..

Yesterday went for Bayern Munich & Schalke 04 training. both using field next to each other, Schalke started first around 9AM and completed around 10.30AM, then I move forward for Bayern Munich training from 11AM-1PM. Only around 20-30 crowd for Schalke but 100-150 for Bayern that day. Kudos to Bayern for pausing to make way for azan semayang jumaat.

There is no Raul signature since I notice him hiding in middle of buggy avoiding crowd. But I am satisfied to see a living soccer legend 50m next to me like I see Alex Del Piero in Olimpico & Zidane at Khalifah Stadium.

As for Bayern....hahaha this one a lot...because I went stalking them for 4 consecutive day training to complete my autograph quest. Will share some training picture later...tonight go stadium watch Bayern Munich vs Al-Ahly!

Gladbach do the double over Bayern!

QUOTE
Mönchengladbach - Borussia Mönchengladbach got themselves off to a perfect start in 2012 with as they executed their gameplan to perfection to claim a fully deserved victory over league leaders FC Bayern Munich that sees them move within a point of top spot in the Bundesliga.

Bastian Schweinsteiger's long-awaited comeback and Marco Reus's home crowd reception played second fiddle to a phenomenal performance from Lucien Favre's charges. Reus opened the scoring early on after a glaring error by Manuel Neuer before Patrick Herrmann stole the limelight with two goals of his own to put the hosts comfortably ahead. Schweinsteiger did grab a consolation goal for Bayern late on, but in the end an out of sorts Bayern were made to pay by a ruthless Gladbach.

Manuel mishap gifts Gladbach the lead

Just like Phillip Lahm had requested FC Bayern set out their stall early on, controlling possession, while the hosts were left to pick out their opportunities in transition. There were a few rusty passes in the opening exchanges as the sides shook off the winter break cobwebs and one such pass brought about the opening goal just after the ten minute mark.

Holger Badstuber played the ball to Neuer who took a touch to go wide under pressure from Mike Hanke before scuffing his clearance straight to Reus. Gladbach's top goal scorer showed great composure to react to the opportunity before volleying the ball into the empty net from 35 yards with Bayern's keeper in no man's land. Bayern sought an immediate response as Mario Gomez ghosted in between Gladbach's centre-backs to meet Arjen Robben's cross, but could only force a good save out of Marc-Andre ter Stegen with his headed effort.

Bayern out of sorts

The visitors were struggling to get in behind Borussia's packed out backline who were making life as difficult as possible for the record title holders. There were a few moments of desperate defending from Lucien Favre's side, but they were doing well to prevent Bayern from creating clear cut chances despite the end-to-end nature of the game. Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and Bastian Schweinsteiger both drew routine saves out of ter Stegen from range, but it was the hosts who struck again just before half-time.

Arjen Robben gave the ball away on the wing before watching on as the Foals promptly netted their second of the evening. Hanke released Herrmann in behind who dropped a shoulder before placing an effort beyond the onrushing Neuer and into the far corner. Hanke fizzed an shot just wide of goal, but the home side will have been the happier of the two teams going in at the break having limited the league leaders throughout the first half.

Defences on top

Gladbach continued to seek out their chances on the break and had Reus found a more accurate pass to play in the wide open Juan Arango the hosts may have been celebrating an early third. Instead his cross-field ball rolled harmlessly to Neuer, but it was a early warning sign for Bayern that Borussia weren't content with a two-goal lead.

While both teams maintained a similar pace in the second half goal scoring opportunities were few and far between as the league's two meanest defences came out on top in the early stages of the second half. Bayern were putting together some dangerous moves, but were often lacking the final pass. Roel Brouwers was forced into making a well timed last-ditch block on a Lahm volley inside the box, but Gladbach were still looking to add to the score line and with 20 minutes remaining the Foals were able to enjoy the security of a third goal.

Comeback kid rains in on the parade

A clinical counter saw Reus hold up the ball before timing his pass to perfection to play in Herrmann who had the presence of mind to take the ball around Neuer before sliding the ball across the line for his second of the match. Bayern were getting more and more frustrated with every passing minute having struggled to breakdown their opponents though they did pull a goal back soon after courtesy of some uncharacteristically sloppy defending by Gladbach.

Robben's corner wasn't dealt with as the players played pinball inside the box and though Badstuber couldn't get his shot off the comeback kid himself Schweinsteiger finally got FC Bayern on the score sheet as he leathered the ball into the roof of the net from six yards out. Jupp Heynckes' men pumped the ball into the box during the later stages of the match as Mario Gomez and Thomas Müller went close to finding a second, but in the end Gladbach's resolute defending and never say die attitude handed them a deserved win over the record title holders.

I followed them for most of the matches that didn't clash with La Liga and dare I say Dortmund and Bayern are currently playing one of the most beautiful football in European football because they portrayed good technical qualities among their players plus both are great tactical sides especially Dortmund. They're unlucky to be placed in the group of death in UCL. Could've done better.

Anyway, hope can share more insights about them with you guys.

They've rested 4 key players againts Mainz. Guess that's a sign they gave up Bundesliga title.

Dortmund played bad but gets the result against Schalke and with 3 more games left, 8points will serve as a piece of mind for them. Time to test youngsters now. smile.gif

David Alaba, Badstuber and Gustavo are suspended. van Buyten / Tymoschuk can replace Badstuber, Rafinha is decent backup for Alaba, but Luis Gustavo is a big miss.

Records and Statistics

Munich - The Bundesliga set a new benchmark for record attendances, Borussia Dortmund did the same for total number of points, and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar also made history. bundesliga.de rounds up the most interesting statistics from the final Matchday of the season.

QUOTE
Attendance:
On average, 45,116 fans have attended each top flight game this term - the highest ever amount in the Bundesliga's history.

Streaks:

Bremen went without a win in their last nine games this season (three draws, six defeats) - the second longest barren spell in their history after a twelve-match streak without victory in 1996.

Goals:

The final round of games produced the most goals of any Matchday this season, with 35 flying in.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar finished the campaign as Bundesliga top scorer with 29 goals, making the Dutchman the first ever foreign player to find the net so frequently in a single season.

Huntelaar also equalled Klaus Fischer's Schalke goalscoring record from the 1975/76 season.

Bayern Munich chairman of the board Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was the last player to score 29 goals in a season, back in 1980/81.

Claudio Pizarro scored his 29th Bundesliga brace - no other current player has achieved as many and only eleven players have ever scored more.

Robert Lewandowski enjoyed his most successful ever season, netting 22 times.

Stefan Kießling scored his second Bundesliga hat-trick, having only ever previously done so in a 4-0 win over VfB Stuttgart in November 2009.

Kießling has now netted 73 times for Leverkusen, leaving the striker second only to Ulf Kirsten in the club's all-time scorer's chart.

Köln conceded 75 goals this season - the highest in the Bundesliga and the Billy Goats' worst ever record.

Anniversaries:

Hertha's Levan Kobiashvili played his 336th Bundesliga match, overtaking Ze Roberto as the foreign player with the most top-flight appearances.

Freiburg suffered their 200th Bundesliga defeat, bringing an end to a run of ten games unbeaten.

Mirko Slomka celebrated his 36th Bundesliga victory with Hannover to overhaul Dieter Hecking (35 wins) as the 96ers coach with most triumphs.

Marco Reus' second strike against Mainz was Gladbach's 1000th away goal in the Bundesliga.

Bruno Labbadia recorded his 50th victory (24 with Stuttgart, twelve with Hamburg and 14 with Leverkusen) as a Bundesliga coach following VfB's win over Wolfsburg.

Miscellaneous:

Only the Bayern Munich team of the 1972/73 season had previously won 25 matches in a single campaign before BVB repeated the feat this time around.

The champions boast both the best home and away records in the league this term.

Dortmund set a club record by keeping a 15th clean sheet this season.

Bremen only picked up 13 points from 17 games in the second half of the season - their worst ever post-Christmas points haul.

Hoffenheim finished in eleventh place for the third consecutive season.

Hamburg collected just 36 points this term - their worst ever total in 49 Bundesliga campaigns.

Hannover were the only team to finish the season unbeaten at home. Their form in front of their own fans secured them a Europa League qualification place, as they earned just eleven points on the road all term.

Hamburg ended up in 15th place - their lowest ever final league position.

It was also a worst ever Bundesliga season for Kaiserslautern, who picked up just seven points after the winter break to end up with 23.

Köln competed in the Bundesliga for the first 35 years of its existence but have now been relegated five times in the last 14 years.

The Billy Goats failed to win any of their last nine games, slumping to their worst ever second season half.

Gladbach won 17 games this season, their highest number of victories in a single campaign since 1994/95, when they recorded the same amount.

Stuttgart collected 31 points in the second half of the season (nine wins, four draws and four defeats) - a return bettered only by Dortmund and Bayern.

The table:

No team had ever broken the 80-point barrier in a season prior to Dortmund managing it this year.

Bayern finished as runners-up for the tenth time, although their total of 73 points would have been enough to win the title in six of the last twelve seasons.

Schalke will particpate in the Champions League for the fifth time next season after finishing third - eleven places higher than their position last term.

Bremen missed out on European competition for the second successive season, leading to the departures of key players such as Marko Marin, Markus Rosenberg and Tim Wiese.

Freiburg finished the first half of the season at the bottom of the pile, but were not even in the lower third at the end of the campaign.

Hertha will play in the relegation play-offs for the first time in the club's history.

Köln had not been in the automatic relegation places since Matchday 3, but ended up finishing second-bottom.

Kaiserslautern were relegated for the third time in their history, but it was the first time they went down as the bottom club.

Real Madrid considering a world champion
Kramer on the horizon

user posted image

Germany's Christoph Kramer is one of the names under consideration at Real Madridto take the place of Khedira. The World Cup-winning defensive midfielder is of interest to the club board as is shown by two meetings they have had with Gerd vom Bruch, Kramer's agent.

Kramer is under contract to Bayer Leverkusen until 30th June 2017 but for the past three seasons, including the current one, he has been sent out on loan - something which he does not understand. This apparent lack of confidence in him could lead to the player looking for a way out.

At the Bernabéu, they like the look of the German and are considering him as an alternative to Khedira. For the present, they are just looking at the situation as they did with Kroos - watching the player and finding out what his real intentions are.

Bayern are doing much the same, as they always show interest in any emerging stars in the Bundesliga.

At the moment, Kramer is playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach on loan from Bayer Leverkusen and is part of that group of players who began their international careers when they won the European under-21 championship, and who little by little have been getting into the first team under the guidance of Joachim Löw.

Kramer played in the last World Cup, and was a surprise choice for the final against Argentina. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old, he received a hard knock and had to be taken off.

Bundesliga pips Premier League to top of attendance table, recording second biggest average in global professional sport after NFL

Study looks at the top leagues in Europe, Americas, Asia, Africa and Australia
Sportsmail reveals the Bundesliga has the highest average fan attendance
England's Premier League is second, although plays 74 more games

Premier League attendance levels last season were the highest in England's top division for 64 years, and more people attend Premier League games each season than in any league in the world, at almost 14 million.

As MailSport’s groundbreaking study of the world's major leagues shows, only Germany's Bundesliga can top the Premier League in any measure of turnstile success - fans attending per game.

The Bundesliga's figure of 42,609 fans per game is the biggest average in world football and the second biggest average in global professional sport - after American’s NFL.

The Premier League averaged 36,695 fans per game last season to be the second best attended football league per game by some margin ahead of La Liga in third (26,955 fans per game), then Italy’s Serie A (23,385), with Mexico's LigaMX (22,271) pushing France's Ligue 1 (21,155) out of the top five.

The Dutch Eredivisie and MLS in the USA and Canada are the seventh and eighth best attended leagues with more than 19,000 fans per game each.

In terms of total fans through the turnstiles, the Premier League, with 20 teams and 380 matches had 13.94 million fans coming through the turnstiles last season, or almost a million more than in the Bundesliga, where the 18 teams played 306 games.

The study looked at 34 leagues around the world, including the top divisions from 33 nations across Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Australia - plus the Championship from England as well.

The Premier League has the biggest aggregate attendance in the study (13.94m) then the Bundesliga (13m) and La Liga (10.2m) followed by the Championship, where the 552 games between the 24 teams were watched by 9.2m last season.

The Scottish Premiership is 21st on the list of 34 with 10,228 fans per game last season but that is down considerably since Rangers were demoted. It will be down again this season without either Hearts or Hibs in the top flight.

Bundesliga teams booming in Europe

For the second consecutive season, Germany's Champions League teams are all in the knockout stages. Its Europa League clubs are also through. DW's Jonathan Harding says it's proof of the country's football dominance.

"We are 14th in the league. I think that says everything you need to know about the quality of the Bundesliga," said Borussia Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp when asked for his thoughts on Germany yet again having all four of their teams in the Champions League knockout stages. While Klopp's comment is laced with his usual jovial tone and nicely distracts from Dortmund's domestic failings, his point retains validity. German clubs have really come to play on the big stage again this season.

Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke 04 are all in the pot for the knockout draw of the Champions League - decided on Monday, December 15 at 10:30 UTC. In addition, both Wolfsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach have also progressed from the group stages of the Europa League, the latter even finished undefeated victors of their group. Six from six (could have been seven had Mainz not lost in qualifying) - no other nation in football can say that.

By no means have the Bundesliga's representatives been perfect in Europe - all four teams have tasted defeat. While Bayern and Dortmund won their groups - the former with five wins to their name and the latter on goal difference - Leverkusen went through in second having spurned numerous chances to top the group. Schalke, perhaps Germany's weakest representative in Europe, sneaked through with a win on the final matchday.
