QUOTE(Ash_9 @ Dec 29 2011, 03:59 PM)
Hi all,

i need some advise on unit trust matter. I had invested some amount into my fund and i got this email from the agent.

:Pls be informed your bond funds u have invested with us is now making a 3.7 growth @ 666.83 profit as at 12/10/2011 closing price.

Meanwhile, would like to suggest to average down your cost by placing additional investment of 40% of your initial investment. The market sentiment is very volatile for the last quater of 2011. The initial cost was 0.6066(NAV) when invested at 1sy quater of this year. The latest NAV of this fund is at 0.516. Thus, with this additional investment it will lower down the cost of 0.6066 as well. It will also helps the investor to breakeven  the profit when the NAV surges.

Can anyone pls explain me abt this and your advise pls.
I appreciate for your time. Thanks.

u can ask ur agent to email u the latest stsment. u will know abt the profit/lost.
ur agent email u on oct, by the time now the price already diff, up or down.

is there any dividedns declared for ur bond fund before oct, if yes, sure the price will drp after the divididedn.
top up during lower price will give u more profit if the price appreciate. n also can average down ur buying price as per explain by deserkids.

buy cheap sell high for profits.

u better check again with ur agent.

Never time the market. Usually it won't really work.

I'll stick to Dollar Cost Averaging and put in additional on top of that if I have additional cash. The additional cash would go to those funds which NAVs are below my average purchase price.

Best-est time, in my humble opinion, to top up (sorted by most oomph as (1.) ):
1. Based on your Entry rules built upon:
a. Asset Allocation
b. Projected cash savings
c. Investments' timeline, growth & income requirements

2. Based on value
a. market crashes (fear is a big problem to execute here for most folks)
b. constant periodic value averaging (no fear/greed but takes a bit more effort than Dollar Cost Averaging)

3. Based on blind (no fear/greed) and constant periodic Dollar Cost Averaging

4. Based on your own plans (eg. Trend, Enter when below your holdings' average NAV, Enter when NAV less than 3 years moving average NAV, etc.)

IMHO, other than the above, one literally is just rolling the dice unplanned. Then again, i've met a few (very few) lucky folks tongue.gif Well, since i'm not born rich or incredibly long-shot lucky, i guess i'll have to toil using the approaches above notworthy.gif

We cannot time the market and price determination by Public Mutual. Someday KLSE data is up, but Public Mutual fund price may be down. Another question, how much when it's up, how much when it's down? So the best is to do DCA.

I don't do reinvestment of my DR anyway.

UTC Connect does not show you about your customer, but only your commission.
You need to have CAMS if you want to see your customers' investment. You should be able to see 15Dec transaction in CAMS now.

No, you don't need a Public Bank account to open a Public Mutual Online account, but it does make initial / additional investments convenient. (via online banking). For repurchases/ selling of units they'll just send you a cheque.
