Anyone knows where to get Cherry Red Shrimp and Siamese Algae Eater? been looking around from around Klang to Jalan Sungai Buloh but don't see any of the LFS selling...

Also anyone know how to remove the black looking algae that stick hard on the aquarium glass after few days of applying Iron supplement? it is driving me crazy... tried algae remover... but several ghost shrimp and chinese algae eater down might be due to algae poisoning.....

try remove it manually....using algae scraper or old credit card...
*
sisaiko: I did, I even use the green sponge.. the coarse type that we use to wash the dish... i'm using it and scratch it like crazy... not only the algae survive.... I even get some free scratched mark on the aquarium biggrin.gif

ciohbu & sisaiko: See all those brown looking spots around the aqurium glass?? the major one is the patch.... been like that about 1 week + growing slowly... compare to that day i dump in iron supplement.... BTW from eye view those are dark blue/ black/ dark green.... don't know how to describe.. just the color looks like chinese ink...

Otto can help

Buy a few otto and it will solve your problem
Problem is i heard otto might not be able to help... and some of my fish like CAE and rasbora might either cause stress or kill it.....

CAE tens to be aggressive as they grows, get SAE is much better and safer.....

to overcome algae, one of the best defence i prefered is SAE + otto + yamato shrimp. they will do their job just fine and effective though a bit slow. anyway, u can put more of them to clean it faster, if u pay attention enough to them, u can even notice they excrete green feces (all day algae feast i guess)  rclxms.gif

Hahaha.. Thanks for the advice bro. I'm looking forward to get those 3 "legendary helper" but it seems all the LFS i went either not selling or need to book.... not to mention they don't know when the stock will arrive. It is like so near yet so far..... still haven't been to AI yet... went to few LFS around Jalan Sungai Buloh but all of them not selling any of them or sold out..

Also the green spot algae seem to stuck on my mirror... can't come out after using credit card... might need to use razor blade... hehehe

my SAE seems to be swimming more than eating

55w PL vs 48w T5, which is better

Whats the market price for aquazonic 55w PL and aquazonic 24x2 t5, both 2 feet ?
*
sad.gif i'm still hunting for SAE.. will be heading AI soon, still looking of way to venture there. My bro-in-law told me the road is rough, and around the cornering of the Subang Airport... been there several time but didn't notice got any small road or not... might head there this coming weekend to find SAE. Hope i don't miss the cornering... sad.gif.. 1 more plant tank is coming soon, stock piling all the plants ... hehehe..

2 feet aquazonic i think around RM80~100 kua... not very sure cause i was looking for 76+CM or 2.5 feet lighting, so I flip the 60+cm lighting and only know around RM80~100.. I might mistaken about it...

Wei Jie you have any 76+CM or 2.5 feet lighting? If you do please send to my email. tongue.gif

Update
gahhhhhh, another tetra just sayonara cry.gif
nothing special happen, PH and temperature both stable

it just suddenly lose control and float with the water flow
when I see it, it was gasping for air and gone within 5min

he was still swimming happily in the group half an hour ago  cry.gif

Your forget to check for ammonia, but the best thing is try to rinse it or put your plants at 1 spare tank "nothing inside just for cleaning purpose" for 1 day then only put it to the main tank... did what you did last time end up 3 RCS, 2 at day 1 and 1 at second day same anubias plant..... reason could be either copper or ammonia spike from the plant (notice some soil at the driftwood?)... just rinse in if you prefer to see the plant in the tank than idle around wink.gif

You are having new tank syndrome. Btw, Cardinal tetra are sensitive to water parameters. It is not recommend to have this fish in new setup tank.
I lost 7 out of 10 last time even my tank was cycle for 6 months. 7 x rm3.5 go to drain.. rclxub.gif
*
Not sure why everyone having dead fish... but i tried this method... bit cruel but my fish is running here and there like crazy.

Before setting new tank try put all your fish in confined place.. like an arcylic "not sure i spell it right or not." tank which isn't bigger than 1 feet.. if you have moss or what ever plant that can help you ++ O2 or oxygen (try Anacharis (Egeria densa)) heard you can just snap it into 2 and throw it into the tank just schedule the timing when your tank should be ready... i did it within 3 days after i throw in ADA soil on the big tank, the important thing is you need to match "the ammonia at the arcylic tank and the new setup tank" also.. I did around 5-10 times water change during the 3 days period to lower the ammonia.. didn't count it the exact time i did the water change. However, the ammonia was at 0.5ppm when the last... er.. third time i change but it hit back up to 2ppm after a while... and it happen on my last second and last water change. I got headache and tested my "arcylic tank with fish" for ammonia level for my last resort..(anxious to move back the fishes)... was shock when i saw the result, it hit 4ppm. The last thing came into my mind is why is don't i throw them into the new tank since the new tank is lower... biggrin.gif All fish survive for 3 days already.. 2 croaking gourami, and 6 red tailed-rasbora and 3 SAE. You can try but i can't guarantee the same result, my advice is try use the test kit more often... might be expensive sometime it worth the hassle biggrin.gif

Anyone rear shrimp + guppy here? if i put "baby guppy" with "shrimplet" will there be any casualty? biggrin.gif just put some newborn baby guppy at my RCS tank and my shrimplet about to come out.... so i'm afraid the shrimplet might get eaten by baby guppy before i know it... does the shrimplet even fit into the baby guppy mouth?

provide more hideouts for your shrimps.
i have problem that shrimps killing guppies. lol
Haha the problem is the java moss in my tank is growing like snail, might be due to low lighting. But it shouldn't be any problem because i heard java doesn't require much light. blink.gif ... Having CO2 and some soil, should be any problem. Just recently got "white algae" outbreak, thought it was snail eggs but nothing hatch and the white algae just grow bigger and bigger if untouch. Oto and shrimp don't even touch it, not sure what it is but i think the plants don't like it because some plant grow slower or no new shoot around the white algae patch...

Reputable since I don't plan to travel too far, I'm currently in Taiping and the selection here is absolutely horrible. If I wanna get anything it's probably by post. Meanwhile I have tried asking about plastic plants in flowershop but apparently the plastic there is bad and will rot in a watery environment. Or so that's what they claim. tongue.gif
*
Taiping... if for me i'll just go place that looks like lake or water ponding place, you might find some wild plant in the water.. got my fish from abandon lake. When going to those places try go in group, scare unwanted things might happen, just be careful.. I heard from my brother in law he got a lot of those Egeria Densa or some call Anacharis. It is free and if rotten you can just feed to cichlids, hehehe. Just wash it before putting it into your aquarium, might have a lot of unwanted object or creature, especially nymph.....

Anyone know where to get healthy Serpae or Congo tetras?

EDIT: Wait, just Serpae tetras. My tank isn't large enough for a nice school of Congos and its really sad when a tetra doesn't have a school  sad.gif .

Can try AI, saw Congo tetras 2 weeks ago but not sure they still have it or not...

usually i put anything that have micro-holes in its texture. doesnt matter ceramic or larva rocks or whatever shit, i simply put. hu hu hu..!!! some people care on what they put because it'll affect ur water pH most probably. but to me, i simply campak.. tongue.gif

but hey, ur ceramic dirty as in what? actually, people usually keep their matured filter media. u just clean it by washing it with ur tank water whenever u do ur WC. not the dirtiness you want to keep, but the BB in it.
*
Nice tank Booby,

Usermode, what is the ceramic thing for? is it the thing stabilize the water hardiness or PH in the water to 7? as what rock or stone does....

I'm looking for few stalks of downoi (pogostemon helferi). around 4 - 5 stalks. anyone have excess with their downoi would like to sell in small number? i'm buying.
- the ceramic thing basically is a place to cultivate ur beneficial bacteria (BB) in your filter. some having lava rocks, some having crush corals, some having the ceramic stuff.
- different manufacturer have different 'size' of micro-holes in the texture of their ceramic rings.
- some brands of these things might affect ur water pH. read the details before you buy if you are paying attention on your water pH (especially if you are a shrimp keeper).
- but the bottom line still, once it's matured (usually it'll be dirty by this time)... the beneficial bacteria that colonized in the micro-texture is the one you're looking for. it's the heart of your filter and the filter is the heart of your tank. those BB are the one you need to take care of. NEVER wash those rings or lava rocks or whatever it is you are using with direct tap water (untreated).  use your tank water when you do your WC to clean it as ciohbu says, no need until 100% sparkling clean. just to clean those debris.

Thanks, learned new thing smile.gif

What i can say is if you are planning to change to CO2 tank after boring with DIY or you have the money to invest, that is a very good bubble counter. can be reused after you planning for CO2. Slightly expensive compare to other bubble counters but it is a good gadget to invest little bit more money for. 1 thing, no need to worry about the water inside no leakage and water remain for 3 months if i'm releasing 1-2 bps ..
