I like this glowing tetra fish.. the blue coloured ones in particular!!

A shop quoted me RM70 for an aquarium, filter, plant+sand set. Each fish would cost RM1.50.

Good deal?

Or maybe you guys got any suggestion for other types of fish? I like colourful glowing type tongue.gif

how big is the tank? i think is not bad for a starter. i suggest you pick cardinal tetra over neon if you like glowing tetra but its more pricy, say bout 2.5-3 each depends on size.

depend on what you up to

amazonia good for plant, africana good for chiclids and malaya in between
http://www.adana.co.jp/en/products/na_substrate/aqua_soil/

IME i've use amazonia n malaya both can grow plant but amazonia the growth rate faster
Never use africana b4, so cant say much

powder or normal also depend on what plant you want to put,
small carpet plants(glosso, hc, HG) prefer powder, echinodorus n crypt can use the normal type.
and of cos powder more expensive

and try not to mix up the soil(amazonia, africana & malaya), otherwise u will get belang-belang layer  biggrin.gif

thanks for the link! so if based on ADA, the substrate layer should be lowest>>powersand, next>>aqua soil, highest>>cosmetic sand???

RM80 which is bigger than the RM70 aquarium tank is something like this:

The pet shop near my house is quite small, only has 1 type of glowing tetra I think.

Any place to recommend in KL? Because I think it's a little pricey here  sad.gif

if RM80 this size with the substrate and light is quite worth it, livestock can choose , prepare another 100 for it (plants + fishes). most pet store sells neon tetra from rm1 to rm1.5, cardinal u have to go to some bigger shop to get, i am not familiar with KL, but in cheras i can suggest some place to you. thumbup.gif

Dont put cosmetic sand on top of your aqua soil, otherwise your waste your aquasoil...
powersand is not a must....u can replace it with like others said lava rocks
Yup Book of ADA is a good book, it shown some how to guidance eventhough is a ADA catalogue
it might be better also you get the book b4 u get ur soil  biggrin.gif

what is the max watt u can get from a 2 feet t5 ?
*
ordinary T5 rated at 14W, but aquazonic t5 rated at 22W, not sure how they come out with 22W though, maybe only with aquazonic housing only can have 22W output? anyway, just bought 4 tubes of aquazonic t5 for my 2.5 ft tank.

Guyz, what the actual different between T5 and T8?I dont see any different in them except the tube size. And which one are easier to get the spare parts like tube replacement? Because i'm not from KL and dont know which 1 is easier to get tube replacement
*
yeap, that's the difference in terms of tube size 5/8" and 8/8" or simply 1" diameter. for the same length, the wattage is slighly different but you can save loads of space when you opted for T5 tubes.

tubes replacement i think any LFS also got, but more common ones are the T8, if you are saying parts like the ballast, T8 is definitely easier to find as any electrical shop can get it.

you can actually DIY T5 housing if you are on a budget limit. Just get the tubes and make you own housing.

hey guys, wanna ask.

I just got some nice Green Neon Tetras. Really nice and small. About 1-1.5 cm.

Feeding them micro pellets but they dont seem to be eating them. Any idea why? could it be because they are still new to the tank> just two days. Still banging the glass, but now less than yesterday.

What should i feed them then?
*
same situation here, cardinals not enjoying their meals..... pellets sinks a after floating for a few minutes. any pellets recommendation for cardinals please? my beauty are quite big, approx 2.5-3cm

previously using aquadine if not mistaken, green body, yellow cap. cloud my water easilly, now changed to spectrum, blue cap. not more cloudy water, but fish not eating 'em.

Oddly they are named green neon tetras although they are blue...  rclxub.gif

green neon are very similar to blue neon, just like percular clownfish (fake) and true percula clownfish. anyway, i can only notice that blue neon are much "bluer" than green neon...and slightly more expensive.

What are you feed them now? Scared my very rare green tetras starve to death... blink.gif

still feeding them this...... i leave a small portion out in the open air for a while be4 1 feed them, it sinks faster, so it will be easier for them to eat on bottom rather than float. but not sure they ate it or my filter cleaned it up. what i know is there's no more left over pellet on the bottom and i assume they ate it.... anyway, just bought the pellets few days ago, maybe a change of taste they wouldn't like it for the time being. if persist, maybe i will get the borneo wild to try.

isnt that clorox hazardous to the flora and fauna community in the tank? how to determine that the diffuser is fully clorox free? thanks. noob question here.hehe
*
clorox or any bleach agent is alkaline substance, if you have any PH tester, just put 1 drop on it to see what's the colour to determine, else, just use vinegar to soak it (if you listen some sizzling or bubbling then it still contain bleach), and rinse with tap water.
