scary to hear so much time spent on planted. I know I'm not gonna be able to do it, that's why staying away for now
Need so much love and passion btw, my 1.5ft tank, seems to be losing 1 inch of water level every 3 days or so. What's the rate of the rest of you and how often do you do WC or replenishment? I just recently saw that other tanks filled water near to the top whereas I only filled up to 70-80%. I did this cos been thinking this is the way as I watched my dad did like this before. prolly was scared the fish may jump out of the tank. Need to relearn QUOTE(usermode @ Feb 9 2012, 12:57 AM) ho yeah...!!! what a great night after office. - reached home from office. - make coffee, sit in front tank to enjoy it for a while. - turn on the lights and... - walla..!!! - wondering what did i do wrong this morning before i left while monitoring the tank closely to find the culprit... - .... after pulling a short CSI scene, i found one of my orange shrimp stucked-dead in my filter inlet. duhh...~!!! i guess due to that dead shrimp, the phosphate/ammonia (or whatever stuff that decaying things release) going up sky high. haiz... spent a good 3 hours to clean as much GHA as i can and 50% WC. i love u "mr. dead orange shrimp".... now im tired. |

ah great to know
yeah about the water level, only now i learn. guess i've been following my dad's tradition until only recently saw what the rest are doing.. sorry on the fan, i meant now it's vertical, need to adjust with bit of angle to horizontal my fan is DIY fan with a heavy duty paper clip onto the aquarium top and is actually inside my tank! blowing parallel to the surface of the water now anyone got idea any tools (Clip) that are bendable or anything. My mod is nice and cheap but now after seeing the water level, I need to remod thx QUOTE(usermode @ Feb 9 2012, 03:33 PM) aloh.. once a while like that. that's where the fun in this hobby - my tanks that using fan, i'll topup water every 2-3 days. losing 1inch of water in that timeframe is normal for tank with fan. - WC, depends on the tank stability, age and specs. i do WC on my matured tank once a week. new tank, twice a week. low tech, once a month. - i filled my water almost reaching the top as well. fishes dont really jump out of water unless something is wrong with your water or that species is a jumper. so choose ur fishes according to your tank. big fish like arowana also not adviseable to have high level water. full water level in a scape tank for me, because when u have a clean and clear water, u are like looking at a nature through glass only. like no water in it. hehehe... it;s more nicer to look at ur tank without the water level line. - a fan positioned slightly tilted (30 degrees or so) will have a wider blowing area compare to those straight horizontal. if you put vertical, where the fan will blow? wall? XD |

i bought normal shrimp for my fish food (maybe u call it grass shrimp)
my congo tetras love them very much, like predator. My Rams love it too but not as aggresive as the congos red lobster just molted again yesterday, didn't notice the leftover skin at first cos it was under the dead coral stone. I did notice my lobster size got bigger and I thought oh well, maybe my imagination. But last nite while watching the tank, saw the leftover skin and found out it molted. Nice, my lobster just increase in size again, less then a mth this time. Probably feeding on the shrimp as well |

Tell the truth, since i started this pet fish hobby last year in December, only early this month I managed to get them
I've been to 8 or 9 LFS here asking and they all don't have. So it's kinda hard to find them for me here in KK, Sabah as well. It seems they only can get their supply once a while only. Here usually got 1 uncle/ah pek supply one, that is also he only supply it once a while to the LFS here Well, if you're used to fishing, there is still another place you probably find them. places that sell umpan for fishing kakis. They do have small prawns/shrimp for sale too. Used to be a fishing kaki, so I know got places sell live bait of shrimp around QUOTE(LuQEE @ Feb 16 2012, 12:47 PM) |

hi bro, i'm interested to look at your apit-G
I been looking around for this but couldn't find any at my place here in KK, Sabah We don't have DIY shops, only hardware and supermarkets Can you pm me with a picture of it pls? or clampers that you may have QUOTE(sang gemok @ Feb 23 2012, 10:01 AM) u can go to diy shop. i collecting things for my tank. i made a diy light the one that can be attached to the tank body. clamp to the glass. got a clamper at the diy shop. it is like apit G. but with two mouth to hold. small size. it hold best. but im too shy to post a pic. coz i didn't started my tank yet.huhu I used heavy duty paper clip, like this below, a mid size with good clamp forceand on my fan, i bought those longer bolt screw and nut (has to be longer than the fan width so got extra place for u to clip onto the aquarium http://p.lefux.com/61/20091012/A10790000T/...11475-showa.jpg screw like below but head is philips or the minus type so easy to screw, can get these easily in supermarkets http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K8tE-_9k1XY/TpMf...0/hammock17.jpg but this way you can only either clamp it vertically, horizontally on the aquarium, no angle If you have a way, do let me know too QUOTE(LuQEE @ Feb 23 2012, 09:40 AM) haha This post has been edited by Shoot@M3: Feb 23 2012, 11:42 AMhurm still cant think anything to attach that binder clip with the fan.. anyway, i find that my temp drop alot using this cooler fan, from avg 29-31 to avg 24-26.. alot of difference hehe is this good? so i can get RCS now ? haha |

thinking of doing a small dwarf cichild community anyone can recommend me which type i can get that grows up to less than 8cm only. Don't want big fish I searched on the net but mostly found those that the LFS here does not have saw few types here like whole white, whole yellow, yellow with black strip on top fin and body, frontosa & army camo type looking at colourful types only |

i agree cory is the bottom tank cleaner but they don't eat poo..they eat the leftover by other fish who can't feed in time so it's a good bottom dweller and cleaner
Not sure if any fish species/others eat fish poo at all, mostly they eat algae also not sure if shrimp eat fish poo.. my feeder shrimp too show hiding under the rocks so I don't see them eating fish poo before maybe best bet is go have good water pump and filter/cannister my plecos has grown and if it eats a lot (algae and fish food), just seeing the long trail of its poo is so gross inside my tank!! arggghg eewww how long do each of you spend in front of your tank everyday? i spent like around an hour a day if nothing to do and more on weekends. Well, if I'm busy then i just watch for a while when they're eating away |

sure can lah, some are of better quality, means it's harder and does not 'dissolve' too much after long usage
some are elongated so can put whole row according to your tank measurement, some are flexible so can bend into corner/shape into what you want(well, not shape like animal tho imho/imo in my honest opinion/in my opinion I'm also still learning these abbreviations, especially those that are here in planted thread. Can be confusing when you're a newcomer in here u know QUOTE(cute_miao @ Feb 28 2012, 05:20 PM) |

@ cute_miao, no prob
@ LuQEE, wahhh WC u oso want auto ka? Well, just share bit, I went to hardware store, bought some pvc pipe and turned it into 'U' turn so when I do WC, no need stand and hold the hose, i just hang it on my aquarium (of cos u set ur own water flow from the main water faucet lah). Copied this after i saw how the LFS here do it. So i change water quite fast now. Plus i use the sucker tool to suck out the water so WC/adding can be done easily I just recently bought an auto feeder something like this with 2 drums (1 big and 1 small) http://www.pethealthusa.com/ph-a2013.html mine can set either to feed every 12 hours/24 hours only. Not that canggih where can feed how many times a day already 1 week plus, battery still good in it, chapalang battery plus there is an additional button on top, press it and it will feed in manual mode it's good enuf for when I'm away for a week, last time i was away for 5 days, just throw in those fish food type that can last 3/7/10 days but some fish not really sure what it was, so when I came back some of my fish quite kurus already...kasian QUOTE(LuQEE @ Feb 29 2012, 03:48 PM) |
