Reputable since I don't plan to travel too far, I'm currently in Taiping and the selection here is absolutely horrible. If I wanna get anything it's probably by post. Meanwhile I have tried asking about plastic plants in flowershop but apparently the plastic there is bad and will rot in a watery environment. Or so that's what they claim. tongue.gif
*
why having plastic / artificial plants? they will become black and start losing color in no time.
you wont go for any fake plants once you seen real planted tanks, huhu.

Using artificial plants to lessen the maintenance. I've been fed by many horror stories about live plants dieing all the time. Also, for such a big tank, I'd need almost 2k just to setup C02 and other stuff for a proper running tank. Am running on 1k budget and below and that's not even counting the fish. Also, if I happen to go on holiday I don't want my plants and fish to die en mass like the poster above. Sorry bout that. tongue.gif Hehehe.

haiz.. same here. i cant trust anyone in my house to take care of my tank. they'll just leave it like that with excuse "im afraid/dunno how to touch ur tank" even after i gave the schedule. no need my tank la, even my simple plants in pot also no one wanna help take care like pandan and cili api. haiz..!!  rclxub.gif  just help pour water only... people need to know how important to make earth green.  sweat.gif

is all ur plants melted? no chance to revive?
*
IMHO, artificial plants need more maintenance. I been keeping fish + artificial plant, during my secondary school time (10years ago).
Artificial plants are very nice when you first brought it, but soon or later, algae will start growing on fake leaves and stems. you would need to take them out and clean it every week. That's where i gave up last time tongue.gif

My 3feet and 2feet aquarium is fully automated system. Lol.
Complete with solenoid, electrical timer, automatic food timer. I can leave home for about 10days without worry about it at all.
Unfortunately, problem is nobody help me to trim rotala, my tank will evolve into jungle whenever i go trip.
I only need to find someone to help top up water once every 3days only. hehehhe

Meanwhile guys, my tank is very big and I kinda have a problem. My sand substrate is rather shifty and I am worried bigger fishes will uproot the fake plants. So I plan to keep only small ones like tetras, barbs and corydoras. However, with such a huge tank the problem would be algae.

I plan only to use those small golden plecos. Will say 6 or 7 of them be enough to keep my tank moderately clean?
*
since artificial plants doesnt have any roots, maybe you should tie them with rock first before buried them into sand.
tetras would be good idea if you want schooling fishes. cory does dig hoses and uproot plants.
small golden plecos will clean green spot algae that grow on glass. i dont think they will go for harder algae such as BBA or hair algae etc.

heh, i got timer too. but no food timer. >_< well... for a week, so far i never had a fish died starving at least so far. the only thing is, POTASSIUM!!!!!!!!!!!! heh, i dont know but usually i just leave my tank just like that since no one gonna take care of it anyway and so far nothing been wrong so far even without potassium (shorter photoperiod). i dun have any problem to topup water also since my water evaporation rate is damn slow unlike using fan. just, afraid of algae if it occured anytime during my absence and when i came back... walla!! algae took over the tank already (crossfingers.. so far never happened)
hurm, i dun know about CRS but my other shrimps never die also for one week holiday previously. they wont get the best buffet of course, but the tank usually have something for them to much on naturally.... oh, and as long no electrical blackout happened during my away time, i wouldnt worry so much. biggrin.gif
*
what is your current aquarium water temperature?
my 3feet is at living room and if never use fan then temperature might go up until 29C.
It is a bit high for cherry tank.

wah..!!!  shocking.gif  29C? u not using fan but not using chiller? im using chiller and keep my temperature around 23-25. above 25 is consider 'hot' for me already for my tanks. LOL!!.. i wont ever let it go beyond that. average temperature around 24C for my tank.

eh btw bro, can tell me ur rotala is which type of rotala? full name? or pic would tell...
*
wow. chiller huhu. no wonder la.
i not using any chiller now, although i got Hailea 150a inside store room.
Maybe after moving house then only i will install it.
You can view the rotala picture at my wordpress. Go http://aquscapeworld.wordpress.com/. Page" 3feet .... "

QUOTE(ProX @ Jan 18 2012, 02:04 PM)
I feed my shrimps once a week or sometimes twice a week. It is protein based food that will induce breeding. Basically from 4 shrimps to over hundreds. Fire shrimps will eat algae but occasionally require protein. In the wild, they got it from eating dead fishes and so on.

Contradict to what people may believe, captive fishes usually die because of over feeding which pollute the water faster than bacteria can process.

I will not worry much if you are not going to be around for few days. Just let it be and your fishes will be fine especially in planted tank.

Please take note not to put too much food in the auto feeder. I would suggest putting 50% of the food amount that you will feed for x days. You obviously do not want auto feeder to fail and start dropping all the food into your tank. Test it a couple of time just to ensure everything is working in proper order.
*
Mind share what is the shrimp food you giving? hope it is not expensive ><
i only feed my cherry shrimps with SERA shrimp tablets, very cheap only.

arh i am having the same problem soon.
how to move if i got 3feet tank full of cherry?

dosnx: how big is your aquarium? 2feet? if it is 3feet i dont think it is possible to move the aquarium without removing all the soil and stuffs.

i guess better way is to setup a temporary 2feet aquarium at your new home, use back same old aquarium water and filter system, then transfer all livestocks. resetup a new aquarium need at least 1week to boost up bacteria population.

weijie - it is possible. Stan and the gang did it with Ah Yee 3ft tank before for aquafair. Basically they drain out the water, transfer the tank to a wood platform and put it into a van. They move back the tank after aquafair and everything look alright to me.

Update:

G Series - Snail Killer has proven to be effective in killing snails without harming fishes/shrimps in the tank. Snails are disappearing in less than a week of using it. I didn't follow the recommended dosage because I am losing patience with so many snails crawling all over my tank. So far I have dose 2ml x 4 instead of dosing 2ml once or twice weekly. I did a large water change yesterday and dose another 2ml again.

Recommended for people that is having snails problem. I am literally skeptical at first but this product prove me wrong.  thumbup.gif

Note - Snails in my tank are Ramshorn. Size about 1-2mm.
*
how many person to do the job?
wood platform as it is ply wood?
hmm.. maybe i will just tear down everything. what is the fun of keeping planted tank if you dont do rescape? hehehehe
i need some guide for transferring/keeping my cherries alive while new tank cycle.

ya, i been told that there is a few fish shop near clementi station. so i gonna do my 1day trip there too. haha
not really, as what i know from another forum, price from SG is much cheaper than in malaysia.
Eg: Solenoid is selling at about SGD 100, equivalent to RM245. While you can only get about Rm270 in LFS malaysia.

cheaper? is it? hurm.. never do shopping in sg LFS before so i dont know. if really cheaper, can go buy chiller straight away. hahahahaha!!!!! ok just kidding. but im seriously looking for BW products. trying to have my tank with BW instead of ADA this time and see how it goes. LOL!...

plus, maybe i could find some nice stuffs in SG LFS.. how knows. heh... so clementi station will be then!! biggrin.gif
*
what stuffs are you looking for? ferts? tools?
I am using BW vivid as additive for my 3feet tank, so far so good, not much diff compare to ADA brighty k.
but my plants are not really red, some are orange/pink, some even turned to green.
i guess my lights are not strong enough (i have 36w PLL sitting on top of red plant, and yet it turn green).
i was wondering how much of light need for a red plant, i keeping HC and hairgrass with no problem.

haha. i also quite excited for this trip. My main objective is to look for sulawesi shrimps.
only had a chance to look at them at HongKong, they are packed and hang like feeder shrimps for selling. lol.

fert basically. i want to have all their 3 type ferts and maybe some hardwares like scissors or something (optional)  and give em all a try. i dun use brighty K anyway. i used saechem potassium for K and step 1+2, and green gain. those only fert from ADA i am using. so i wanna try to switch to BW and see if my tank can adapt to it. but im afraid later cant find it anymore in KL. red plants? get more lights!!!! hu hu hu ... i have 254W (72 + 72 + 110) above my 3ft tank. LOL! and i still dun dare to go with red plants... erm.. actually i dont find it attractive anyway that's why i dun like them in my tank. hahahaha..!!!!
*
wow wow wow.
i using 2x36w + 2x55w is very hot already.

i been there few times, it is located inside new TESCO along old klang road.
They have much variety of rocks and woods to choose from.
IMHO, i dont think their plants is in good condition.
Moss is either covered with algae or dying.

izzit possible to replace the DIY bubble counter with after market?
eg:

or
[attachmentid=2676049]
try to DIY first b4 going for serious mode

I had tried that method few years ago. Yes this system might can last you for few months, then leakage will happen everywhere.
it is better to buy the bubble counter normal grade, only cost Rm13.

Yes. If you notice, this bubble counter has different design for "professional" and "normal" type. Professional are much expensive and it comes with build-in check valve.

It can last you MAX 5 months, might be less.

- this is just me la... (not a pro advise.. just personal way), i'd leave it and just take care of the tank without touching it. LOL!!! 10 days is just too early to know anyway. i'd leave it at least 2 weeks minimum and if after that still no new growth and only melting keep going on, i'd plant new one (and of course figuring out what did i do wrong like increasing co2, lightings, etc). LOL!!!
- and yes... most of us bought the stones. very few that are super hardcore would go out in the nature and find it themselves, then treat the stones/woods. it's just superbly ma fan..  sweat.gif
*
it is very hard to find a suitable light with correct power for 1.5feet tank.
Maybe you can make another 1.5feet and buy one set 3feet light set? LOL~

And yes, we usually brought the stones from store.
One thing that i notice is that those stone you collected from waterfall are from different colors (some red/grey/black/white stripes), they does not fit each other if you are trying to make landscape design.
Most probably you will found bogwoods in waterfall area only.
