This is from a foreigner point of view based on real life experiences.

In the last 4 days, I tried 4 different mobile carriers (Maxis, U Mobile, DiGi, Celcom)

All are prepaid SIMs except DiGi.

How I tested:
Use one SIM each day on my Galaxy S II and surfed the web from morning until midnight in various places from my apartment in Mont Kiara, to client office in Section 19 PJ, and hanging out in key areas like Amcorp, Chinatown, KLCC, Wangsa Walk.

What I've found:

1st day - Maxis - Fast, but not stable, never lost signal of course but I often lost data connection, causing errors in browser/app.

Bottom line is, for broadband internet and iPad package, they redirect you to their dumb green portal each time a session is started which is utterly annoying. This doesn't happen on their mobile internet package, however this package is expensive compared to the former ones (broadband and iPad)

2nd day - U Mobile - Fast, I dare to say it's on par with Maxis in terms of speed, but better, only occasional data connection loss while on the go, less often data disconnection than Maxis.

Bottom line is, coverage is very poor, especially underground, for example in all Kelana Jaya LRT underground stations from Masjid Jamek until Ampang Park, got no coverage at all, had to roam on Celcom network which cost me 0.05 per MB, a big letdown.

3rd day - DiGi - Very stable from morning until midnight, in every place I went I could surf the web without problems.

Bottom line is, certainly slower than Maxis and U Mobile, and this is a postpaid one which should be faster than prepaid packages (prepaid DiGi must be even slower), their prepaid packages are horrible, I'd say DiGi is the perfect one to get if only they had Discover package for prepaid SIMs.

4th day - Celcom - Instanet, coverage is good, on par with Maxis, wherever I went, got at least 3G.

Bottom line is, very terrible data connection... from morning till midnight, wherever I went from Mont Kiara, PJ, KL Sentral, to Sri Rampai, very poor and damn slow, tested with Speedtest serveral times got 0.1, in most places, mybrowser couldn't even finish loading many websites I surfed including Celcom official site itself! It felt unbelievable so after got back home, I tried again using modem and PC, still got horrible connection, even though signal is HSDPA full bar.

Of all these SIMs I got very disappointed with Celcom, I thought that Maxis sucked big time already until I tried Celcom!

DiGi is the obvious one for me, but I want prepaid SIM, because I could be leaving Malaysia anytime mad.gif

i find your bottom lines quite biased as most digi users stated : digi is far worst compared to maxis. and u cannot expect 24 hours full bars everywhere u go. wireless internet still havent reach the pinnacle of it's technology yet, thus there are limits to where u can use them.

let me point out a few things u missed to evaluate further
1- underground tunnels
:: yes, underground tunnels, tight space squeezed beneath tons of behemoth rocks and sand. How did u ever expect fast and stable connection?

2- maxis
:: where are you using it? on the go, travelling on highways or using it in the jungle? or in the underground passage? maxis so far has the best coverage in the entire malaysian islands, and by far the most stable telco and they have improved alot compared to last time

3- umobile
:: they're quite new in malaysia, just recently launched. and by recent, like 1 or 2 years ago? as they are new, dont expect coverage in every nook and cranny of malaysia

4- every hsdpa towers have their limits. maybe your area is congested and there's only 1 tower nearby. imagine 5 million people connected to 1 hsdpa tower, which is in fact slower than a hspa tower.

DIGI has PrePaid SIM. I believe the max data charge for DIGI Prepaid Mobile Internet is RM5 a day. But the speed is slower than Post Paid.

I had been using umobile and maxis at my place setia alam. Mxis signal is way better than umobile. When using umobile at ground floor my signal is only 1 bar sometimes no signal for hspda. When place on 1st floor signal is ok.
Speed. About the same, umobile provide me more consistant of speed while maxis fluture alot. But Umobile sometime will dc.

You should try YES 4G. I find U mobile is better than Maxis for usage, never tried Digi and Celcom before.

Yes 4G is far better than U mobile.

lol if speed.... it depends on signal coverage and no of user in particular places + modem capability... If data Capping, it depends on ISP package... thats all....my first provider in 2008 was maxis, it very fast on that day and today they getting fuc.k up by redirecting to portal, error in data monitoring and etc... Now im end up using celcom from 2009 till now... average speed 1.5Mbps + wide coverage consider ok for me.

Oh so fast to jump the gun, didn't you?

Why would you accuse anyone who went away after opening a thread as a troll? do you think everyone always has time to stay in forums and accusing other people of trolling like you do?

I said already I tested the whole day from my place in the morning, to office and back at midnight, I went through more or less the same ways every day.

Why didn't you read my posts carefully before typing your reply?

- I've been using Maxis for months, I know it's the best, but I've been suffering from data disconnections consistently
- U Mobile is the best bang for the buck, if only they don't charge per MB while data roaming on Celcom
- DiGi, as I said it's slower than Maxis or U Mobile, but it's been stable, more stable than those two, this means less data disconnections, less timeouts, etc.
- Celcom, up until now I'm still using it, websites often won't finish loading on this, for example right now I get an error loading Speedtest, and this thread is still loading as I type this (indicated by endless spinning circle in browser).

I'm just retelling the whole post now, don't quickly jump the gun, just because you experience completely opposite to what happened to me doesn't mean you can accuse me of trolling, the reason we post in forums is to share knowledge and experiences, not attacking each other.

your thread is simply just a repeating what is already stated,.. doh.gif
