Dear frenz,

Need help.. recently i've found a hedgehog wandering in front of my house. now i'm keeping it. i've asked my neighbor but nobody claimed to be theirs.

i'm thinking of keeping it.. but as i seen the picture of your hedgehog. mine is actually really big. it need 2 palms to pick it up.. i don't think it's a baby.. is it overweight @ normal..?? does it obese..?? is it dangerous if i keep it .??

help.. sad.gif

Dang!! I want!!

On a more serious note, his eye look pretty sunken to me. He probably lost for few days oredi, or his owner duwan him anymore. I think u should bring him to vet.

yups.. my fren found it last friday.. i don't know any vet in shah alam.. i try to check but no clinic i found treating hedgehog.. btw, how much it will cost..?? tongue.gif

Whiskas is no good, u can give royal canin 32 (I think 34 is better though, as he looks quite thin), if u buy repacked, can get cheaper. Try find in pet store, usually they sell repack 1.

wokeh.. i'm on it..

Try to count how many he eat the kibble, this way easier to know if he has any other health issue. If he dun eat/eat very little/not drink much, u might have to syringe feed him.

it eats quite a lot.. i've put about a handfull.. when i comeback after work.. everything clear.. water also clear.. nod.gif

How is the poo? Solid or diarrhea? What colour?

it's not too solid and not diarrhea.. colour is brown yellowish..

LOL, mana besar  sweat.gif kecik lah tu  biggrin.gif hahaha, feed him RC36/NUTRAM KITTEN - repack 1KG - RM25

his ears are quite crusty rite? put some baby oil on his ear or at the back of the ear then ok liao  rclxms.gif
*
that's y.. maybe my imagination at first.. sweat.gif

baby oil.. copy.. hmm.gif

V12Kompressor: still hissing but not as loud as few days ago.. icon_rolleyes.gif

mav_850: been feding whiskers since found him.. i'll change it today.. hehe..

poor guy/girl, must b very hungry sad.gif

If u not so scare to hold it anymore, u can try to flip it so it's on its back, if it has a belly button, it's a boy smile.gif

Cost, I'm not sure, +-50 if he don't have any health issue. Hope sifus here gib their answer tongue.gif U can check d vet thread stickied here.
*
the issue is not he/she trusting me.. but me trusting him/her.. tongue.gif

i'll just take it a few days more.. hehe..

i just put small amount of water as few days earlier i put a bowl.. he/she ends up taking a bath.. doh.gif

biggrin.gif, take ur time, just make sure to handle it everyday for at least 30 min so it can get used to u.

I use plastic container, like those u can find at tesco or giant (toyogo box). Make sure u get big one as u need to put wheel in, and it also need space to roam/run.

For bedding, I use newpaper/fleece, haven't found 1 that suits me yet. Wood shavings is kind of messy for me.

Litter box for now I just use those rectangle empty icecream plastic container, cut a bit at front as 'entrance', and I put wood bedding inside tongue.gif

For hidebox I use ice cream container (again tongue.gif), similar to the tutorial in page 1. I think I have to upgrade to igloo though, it is quite small to my hedgie.
*
thanks a lot bro.. laugh.gif

can't wait to put inside it's new home.. rclxm9.gif

one more thing.. does it like a dark invironement @ sunny @ dim..?? unsure.gif

1. U should free feed him.. Meaning there should always be food for him/her to eat. I used to count kibbles and see how much mine eat at night, and if the kibbles is all gone, during daytime I give 20 kibbles in case he wants to eat.

is it alright if they just eat all the time..?? wont he/she be obese..??  hmm.gif  one more.. can u get a mealworm & crickets in pets shop.?

2. U can use ceramic bowl.. It's pretty heavy so he won't flip it as easily.. U can also use water bottle, but it is not recommended as there were cases of hedgie chipping their tooth (their tooth won't grow back like rodents, so once chipped, consider gone), and there were cases of hedgie had their tongue amputated by water bottle o.o

amputated..?? blink.gif  buying ceramic bowl is in top list to do after work.. nod.gif

That's good to hear smile.gif

mine 25-30 kibbles - fed at nite only (for Leo), morning and evening once for the gal (i think 15 each session)Ā  rclxms.gif

one more.. can u get a mealworm & crickets in pets shop.?

yupe, u can feed the small mealworm and crickets.

for mealworm, when u bought back, put in a container with a layer of oats 1stĀ  and leave it for 1 day b4 u feed to ur hedgieĀ  biggrin.gif for cricket, pick the lighter brown color, more creamy if nt mistaken. dun buy too much, scared ur hedgie tak mau makanĀ  laugh.gif
*
the container with oat is for what..?? to dry the wealworm..?? hmm.gif

U can get dried mealies from pet store, but u have to finish within 7 days because the mealies will be bad after that. But there were cases of hedgies constipated eating dried mealies. The best is to get live ones, gutload them, and give to your hedgie as treats.

Maybe he/she eating because hungry. Few hedgies will gorge themselves for food, so I think it's ok. Who knows how long your little guy/girl haven't eaten. Summore now got tasty food that's why eat a lot?tongue.gif Right now I think still ok to free feed as yours look underweight..

If obese u can cut its treat, or provide a wheel for exercise. There were cases where a hedgie eat its bedding because it was hungry. That hedgie died, I'm not sure whether it died from that or what, but necropsy showed its intestine filled with bedding.

Yup, somehow the water bottle cut off the tongue.. Maybe the hedgie no patient 1, want to drink fast2.. sweat.gif
*
it has been eating like that since i found him.. last friday.. it's already a week.. i don't think he/she's starving.. blink.gif

but better to die with food than an empty stomach.. tongue.gif

btw... for bedding what u guys use..?? serbuk kayu @ shredded paper..??

Huffster's looking okay now! smile.gif

---------------

Mealworms eat oats. That's why you need oats. You'll notice that they get fatter after a few days compared to just mealworms without oats. Also, put a small piece of carrot on top of the oats for the mealworms to 'drink' from.
*
wokeh... now i get it.. rclxms.gif

i thought to dry the mealworm.. doh.gif

nvm, glad he found u  rclxms.gif

i have been with my gal for 2 months, after being bitten dunno how many times  mad.gif , being poked till bleed  mad.gif now she is a cute girl, adventurous type, sure not the cuddler type. cannot sit still, but i can pet her back while she sleeps and all the quills down, this is the 1st time i encountered this  icon_rolleyes.gif

conclusion - want your hedgie to be a good boy o gal, play with it everyday, 5-10minutes will do for each session, pick him up and play with him, after 1-2 months, u wil see the result. Cheers  icon_rolleyes.gif
