Sifus,

I just checkout my hedgehog and there is spikes everywhere.

He is not really botak and i can't find any mites.

So i think its quilling period for him.

Is there anything i should take more caution??

Thanks!

check some of your hog's quills. see if it still has the follicle on it, if there isnt, it's a tell-tale sign of mites. sigh of relief otherwise smile.gif

then your hog's just quilling x)

try giving it an oatmeal bath, drying it then applying some ointment. he'd be comfortable enough to sleep for 20 hours a day i assure you, with minimal to no scratching at all tongue.gif
*
He is still new to me and i try not to bath him yet as the old owner get him to bath b4 i bring him home.

As he is quilling now i plan to but i'm scared that might stress him out.

By the way he is not scratching and everything.

He just seem fine with his sleep all day and eats well.

i also trying to breed superworm hehe hi5! icon_idea.gif
I bought RM3 of superworm, put them in container with oats and carrots, for feeding my hedgie and hamster. The biggest 12 superworms i take them out and put inside fishing hook box. 3 days has passed. No result sad.gif
*
haha... They take kinda long time to breed!!
Its hard and take up lots of times and even worst sometimes they even grow ants everywhere so its better to buy..
Btw you guys feed hedgehogs with superworm??
I tot its not recommended??

Ahahaha. xD

I ate McD earlier & all 3 babies bit my finger after that. x(
I guess the smell of chicken remained on my fingers.

@ EugeneLowPNG : I don't feed my hedgies supermeal worms.
I stopped feeding them mealworms last week because I got too lazy to clean up after the mealworms. I just stopped feeding the mealworms & let them starve to death. xD
*
haha bad bad!!
btw i found out that the poop of my hedgie after he had meal worms, the poop smells like belacan..
its sticky too!!
if he oni had those cat dry food then the poop will just be nice like a pebble...
lolx...

try use film container...
it works for me wen i breed them for my tarantulas last time....
seal it up as they dunnid much air to survive cause we will eventually open it up and check everyday...

Added on September 1, 2011, 1:53 pmHav a questions 4 all, when will b the second stage of quilling? around 6 months? i found my boy lost 7 quills a day but very little new quills pooping out.....
*
Mine shud be around 4 months by now and it quils once awhile and i don't see and new quils pooping out too....

So i'm little concern bout mites but i cant find any mites and all quils are attached with follicle like as Olivur said its shud be safe from mites...

Hey all, i'm kinda interested in having a hedgehog as a pet after seeing wilsonjay's post in kopitiam. but i've got 1 question, are hedgehogs sensitive to loud sounds? Coz i'm a music lover and i usually turn on the music quite loud.
*
If I'm not wrong they are very sensitive to a sudden loud noise and its not recommended to on your music dat loud around your hedgehog.
I'm not a sifu in hedgehog, so dont conclude anything from here and welcome others views as they are much pro in it. Peace!

Hey guys, 1 problem here...
My little guy start scratching/digging the corner of his enclosure till he start bleeding...
1st was not that bad and now he kept doing it when I'm not around and I found lots of blood drops in the enclosure....
I tried changing him into different enclosure but he still do the same...
Is there any way for me to prevent him on doing that?

As i use A4 papers for bedding thn he seems to move n koyak sometimes but he won't stop digging even the paper have move aside and there he starts to bleed...

U guys didn't provide any hide box for your hedgie? Like what I did, just an ice-cream container with a piece of fleece solve any digging problem... What's more hurting themselves...lol
*
I does too...
He will sleep there once awhile but prefer under those papers....

thanks guys!

btw, i went to CTY in penang today and saw 2 big hedgie on display....
the size was gigantic comparing to my Rocky...i wonder how will i handle him next time when he grew to that size.... sweat....
*
Just for ur info they dun have wheels for them to exercise and not enough handling...
I tried ask to checkout their hedgie but all seems lack of human contact...
All turn into balls and huff all the way for more thn 1/2 hour...
So my advice is try not to get ur hedgie from any pet shop especially big pet shop something like Penang CTY....
