She's quilling at 1 year and 2 weeks old? This should be her last quilling process. smile.gif

Oh boy, they're ONE years old already!!
It's amazing how fast they grow. I remember the days when they were the size of a fifty cent coin.

Here's a picture of Sush when she was about 3 weeks old, I think. smile.gif

awww <3 she used to be so small, now I need both of my hands to handle her <3

I brought my hedgie to Hands N Paw at Aman Suria. Not really sure if she is  Dr. Jenny as mentioned in previous posts. They were really kind as i was jamming all my way to the clinic. I called them up twice and asked them to wait for me before closing the clinic. They waited for me.

My hedgehog is now in critical condition that she advised me if I want to put him to sleep. And I couldnt help myself but to cry again. She told me that he might not be able to survive in the next 24 hours but I still brought him home and requested medicine from the doctor and pray hard that he could survive longer.

He is having urinary infection, bleeds every time he pooed. He has totally lost control over his bladder system and the doctor poked a needle into his penis to help him urinate. Also Im feeding him on Ensure Vanilla flavour because he cannot take in anymore hard substance. He is on new medication now which consists of 2 types of antibiotic, anti-inflammatory drug, vitamin C and antioxidant. I know the Hedgehog Wobbly Syndrome is fatal but i am still hoping that he can stay longer with me.  I am not giving up yet.

I personally think that she has more experience that any doctor that I have visited. She examined my hedgehog carefully and gave me advice.
*
I am so sorry to hear that. Stay strong both of you !

have you contacted the breeder you got your hedgie from?

Earlier today after posting here, I rubbed some olive oil on Sush because her skin looks dried.

Big mistake. She went very mad =[ She went biting herself and eating her own quills ><

Cleaned her with warm water lots of time, not working.

Spent hours calming her. In the end she stopped biting herself and now only normal scratching here and there but still refuses to let me touch her. One finger near her, she open her mouth wide ready to chop down my finger ><

This happened once, long time ago. That time I mixed baby oil with shampoo ~.~ The next day she went back to normal. So I hope it's the same for this time too.

Also googled about it. Apparently another owner also applied olive oil on her hedgie. Hers ended up like mine, behaving strangely(eating quills and biting itself etc) but also went back to normal after sometime.

*
Yup, it smells. I opened the cap and let her smell the oil, she didn't huff or anything, so I guessed it's ALRIGHT ><

They chew the whole quill apparently >< saw Sush did that. She didn't annoint though.

I lost touch with the breeder right after I got my hedgehog from him. I tried searching him a month ago after I found out my hedgehog has WHS. I fed him medicine around 2.15 am this morning and he took it well. But a few minutes later, his mouth started gasping for air rapidly. From that moment, I knew that he will leave me anytime. When I woke up at 7.30 am, he was already gone.

Thank you all for your encourages.

Hi everyone..i wonder how to tame a hedgehog. I got 2 hedgehogs in June..They are about 3 months+ now..the female hedgehog is so use to me and didn't roll into the ball or hissing etc..but the male..he did that to me all the time..i have to use cloth to pick him up every time. And the male hedgehog is sooooo huge..dunno if he eats more than the female..please help..
*
Hello! Cute hedgehogs you have there wub.gif

Some hedgies are very tame while some are just easily irritated XD And some hedgies are easier to bond with, while some are harder.

Mine is quite easy to bond with rclxms.gif I used to put clothes that I wore for a few days into her cage - to let her get used to my scent . And let her wrap in my clothes while I'm watching tv (the clothes I'm wearing - if you don't mind him pee and poo on you) or you can try handling him awhile before his meal =]

Bonding certainly takes time. It can be from days to months, so I hope you won't give up so soon icon_rolleyes.gif

Are you housing them together? rclxub.gif

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, and made account here to get info about hedgehog..
Anyone, do you all know where can i get free mites, tame, and healthy hedgehog in KL ??
I hope to get one soon, prefer the salt and pepper color..
Thanks..

Welcome! =]
It's rather hard to find a healthy and mites free one if you plan to buy it from a pet store.

however, you can look for breeders around lowyat. Quite a few have good feedbacks.

tuh laa..i think he's overweight..my son is afraid of him and always pick up bella which is smaller and nicer...i give him equilibrio kitten food 2 spoons a day...i let him out to play on the grass..but not everyday..need to buy him a wheel...but too expensive..i tried to get a second hand one.. smile.gif
*
I want a wheel for my hedgehog too. Though no budget XD. I let her roam around the living room in the meantime.

I am not quite sure but if I remember correctly, a few hedgie owners got their hedgehog infected with mites playing with the grass. Wish I can Google but on mobile now.

Ahahaha, impotent.

I tried to breed Chubster last month but it didn't work out very well. I think she had a miscarriage about 10 days after because I found a bloody clump of tissue near her poop. Don't want to risk her health for now so I'm not going to breed her anytime soon. Huffster's still horny as hell even though he's blind.

I miss playing with baby hoglets.  laugh.gif
Ask nethelp and see? He's a good hedgie breeder.
*
OMG. I didn't know you are breeding them again. Sorry that it didn't work out though ><. But if Chubster and Huffster are having babies again, will you promise to tell me? I promise only to bring home a female and love both equally XD

So, are you planning to breed them? because you need to research abt it first...

just that.. u asked a simple qs that every hedgehog owner should know abt before owning one.. so I am assuming you still need to do more research. of course, I hope I am wrong . sorry if I offended you.

Thanks for the information. This is because I get a slight pinch from the hedgehog quills, a small bleeding at the end of my finger.  whistling.gif

I was wandering should I wear a glove? LOL!

Holding a durian is much easier and better way.  sweat.gif
*

Pictures please! Don't wear gloves, or else that little guy will never get used to your smell biggrin.gif

Is hedgehog requires more care and budget compare to Guinea Pigs??
*
Cheaper compared to guinea pigs. Hedgehog is a low maintenance pet. As far as I know, guinea pigs must live in pairs - so double the expenses. Although hedgehog is solitude kind of pet, you still need to give it some of your time in a day. For it to just bond and 'open up' to you.

They are also prone to a few diseases. Some of them might be healthy till the day they pass on because of old age, but you never know. Read more information on them because there are only a few vets that know a little about hedgehog here, so you gotta know on your own too.

If after reading up and you still decide to have one, then buy one from a reputable breeder. Don't buy from pet shop.

Sorry for the long reply to your question. Just felt that you need to know it still needs care although not as much as guinea pigs and stuff.

I had a guinea piggy princessa call Yuki whom passed away sad.gif

And I wasn't ready to adopt another baby back yet and now I am thinking of getting one new baby. Is hedgehog ok with dogs?
*
I'm really sorry to hear that sad.gif

Don't have firsthand experience so I can't tell >< Though as long as they are separated, should be alright. If that dog stays with you and you pat it, you must remember to wash your hand before handling the hedgehog. Especially if you trying to bond with it, because the scent will confuse the hedgehog (what I read from the net). Of course if they are around each other, it must be supervised.
